    Announcement of Public Hearing

    Date: December 9, 2010 Place: El Portal Community CenterTime: 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. El Portal, CA 95318

    Caltrans has studied the effects this project may have on the environment. Our studies show itwill significantly affect the quality of the environment. The report that explains why is called theEnvironmental Impact Report/Statement. This notice is to tell you of the completion of the DraftEnvironmental Impact Report/Statement and of its availability for you to read. A hearing will beheld to give you an opportunity to discuss the project with Caltrans staff before a finalalternative is selected.

    The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) as assigned by the Federal HighwayAdministration is proposing to permanently restore and reopen the section of State Route 140that was damaged by the Ferguson rockslide. Motorists are currently using a temporarybypass route travel to this section of State Route 140.

    You can look at or obtain a copy of the Draft Environmental Impact Report/Statement at the

    Caltrans District 10 Office at 1976 Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Stockton, CA 9520. There arealso copies available at the Mariposa County Library at 4978 10th Street, Mariposa, CA 95338,and the El Portal Post Office at 5508 Foresta Road, El Portal, CA 95318. No formalpresentation will be made. The document is available online at:http://www.dot.ca.gov/dist10/environmental/projects/fergusonslide/index.htm

    Have the potential impacts been addressed? Do you have information that should beincluded? Your comments will be part of the public record. If you wish to make a comment onthe Environmental Impact Report/Statement you may submit your written comments byJanuary 13, 2011 to Caltrans, Environmental Planning, Attention Kirsten Helton, 2015 East
