One of the most wanted criminals in the Moun-tain Rise and Plessis-laer policing areas, Vusi Israel Madondo (pictured), was arrested last week. Madondo (34) has been on the run from police since December 2007 and was the alleged mastermind behind a spate of Copesville robberies last year.

Madondo was arrested by members of SAPS KwaMakhuta for being in possession of an unli-censed fi rearm and ammunition last Tuesday.

He escaped from Edendale Hospital in 2007, whilst in cus-tody for murder. His three co-accused at the time were sen-tenced to life imprisonment.

Whilst evading apprehension, Madondo terrorized residents in the Copesville and surrounding areas and continued his spree of violent crimes, including armed robberies and house robberies.

Lieutenant Sizwe Makhathini of the Mountain Rise Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is making an appeal to members of the com-munity that have opened cases against Vusi Madondo to contact him on 082 925 2582.

The Station Commander of SAPS Mountain Rise Brigadier Francis Bantham expressed appre-ciation to the members responsi-ble for the arrest.

He has been evading the law for many years and I want to say well done and thank you to the police offi cers responsible for his arrest, said Bantham.

Chaos on New Greytown Road

Kailene Pillay A multiple vehicle acci-dent involving two taxis, two light motor vehicles and fi ve bakkies on New Grey Town Road near the Quarry in Pietermaritzburg has left four people with serious injuries and sixteen others with minor to mod-erate injuries this morning.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and found multiple vehicles involved in the collision and some were off the road and with exten-sive damage to all the vehicles.

Paramedics started to assess the patient and found that four people had sustained suspected neck and back injuries and multiple cuts and abrasions. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patients.

The remaining sixteen patients were treated for minor cuts and general body pains.

They were all stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical care.

It is unclear how the accident occurred but the necessary author-

ities were on the scene and would investigate further.

Councilors Rooksana Ahmed and Nithya Govender, sporting DA T-shirts have attracted the looked-for attention by assist-ing the pensioners and grant-ees at SASSA, ( Public Eye 15 March 2013 A. S. E. Ameen). The obvious question is why the same enthusiasm is not dis-played in their wards? Ameen may be ignorant of the fact that councillors are remuner-ated for working in their wards. The D As spectacle at SASSA is uncalled for. The Msunduzi Rates Forum (MRF) serves

purely in the interest of the rate-payers and the poverty-stricken. Never has the MRF sought pub-licity, notwithstanding the MRF offi cials serve in an honorary capacity. About two years ago, the very same DA attempted to hijack the MRFs commu-nity meeting in Northdale but failed to get the publicity they so much craved. There are DA members who saw the MRF as a launching pad for their political careers! In mention-ing the dedication of SASSA employees Ameen ignored the commitment to duty of

Mr Clive Govindsamy who is another very competent SASSA employee that deserves credit.

It is a shame how a political party stoops to woo voters from the poorer areas to feel a sense of obligation to them. The DA is not far from a party that feeds biryani and organizes bhangra bashes in exchange for votes. Will the DA be serving biryani at SASSA offi ces soon? Hard work and not cheap publicity earns respect!

If a party believes that it wants to form an alliance with the Minority Front, it must fi rst look at its own history and origin. If its origins are deep seated within the historical development of segrega-tional and apartheid policies, the MF will not form such an alliance.

We will not work with parties that are hell bent on destroying other parties.

The MF will not tolerate such conduct and we call on its leaders to be principled and to understand the historical legacy that confronts the struggle. Our communities

wont be sold through colonialist ideology.

No, the FF in Ferrari FF doesn't stand forFlippin' Fast - although you could beforgiven for thinking so.After all, with a 6,262cc V12 heartbeat, this big

machine will soar to 100km/h in 3.7 seconds,topping out at an incredible 335km/h. That's whatyou get with 486kW at 8,000rpm and 683Nm oftorque at 6,000rpm on tap, and let's not forget that500Nm of that torque is available from just1,000rpm.

What FF actually denotes is the fact that thisFerrari is a full four-seater with four-wheel-drive,with the lightweight, patented system runningthrough a seven-speed dual-clutch F1 gearbox. Soyou can pilot the car in automatic, or use it insequential mode by activating the paddles on thesteering wheel, while the acceleration gap usuallyexperienced with manual and electrohydraulicgearboxes has been all but eliminated. Meanwhile,the rear wheels are driven most of the time, andtorque is only transferred to the front whenrequired.

But to reduce this Ferrari to cold figures andtechnical explanations would be to do it a gravedisservice as, like all its brethren, it's infused with

passion and soul. Just saying the word "Ferrari"will give anyone with even a drop of petrol in theirveins delicious shivers, while earlier this monthbrand valuation experts Brand Finance declaredFerrari the most powerful brand in the world.

And with that whooping, wailing V12 singing itsopera, piloting this Prancing Horse borders onbeing a spiritual experience, with the car becomingan extension of the driver, as I rapidly discoveredduring a full day with an FF.

Thanks to the perfectly penned Pininfarina lines,what the pictures perhaps don't show is that the FFis no small snip of a sportscar, but a large granturismo with a kerb weight of 1,880kg and a lengthof almost five metres (4,907mm). It's also rathercapacious. Besides being able to seat four adults insupreme comfort, the boot will hold 450 litres ofluggage or two golf bags, while with the rear seatsfolded, luggage capacity increases to over 800litres.

Yet for all its size, the FF is astonishingly agileand will carve up endless stretches of freeway ordance through the tightest corners, due partly to anew suspension system with double wishbones atthe front, and a redesigned Multilink suspension atthe rear.

Enhancing all this is the Manettino on the F1-derived steering wheel, with settings includingESC OFF (disables all traction and stability controlsystems), SPORT (for maximum excitement),COMFORT (for utmost stability and easy handlingin high-grip situations), and WET and ICE-SNOW(for low-grip situations).

The Manettino also controls the SCM3, the thirdgeneration of the Ferrari Magnetorheological Sus-pension System which, simply put, uses an elec-tronically controlled magnetic field to adjust theviscosity of the fluid in the dampers.

The cockpit itself is a sensory treat, replete withsemi-aniline leather in the case of the car I had,with a massive rev counter dominating proceed-ings.

Equipment levels are as outstanding as you'dexpect at this stratospheric level, although there's alist of options you can add. For instance, theexisting and excellent sound system can be up-graded and a panoramic roof can be specified,while the list of personalisation options is vast.

The ergonomics are even better, thanks to whatFerrari aptly calls "the Man-Machine Interface, theeffortless melding of man and car," and everycontrol falls almost intuitively to hand.

Meanwhile, the introduction of what's termedHELE (High Emotions - Low Emissions) and astop&start system that cuts out the engine duringshort stops and then restarts it in the blink of an eye,help contribute to a claimed fuel consumption ofjust 15.4 litres per 100km in the combined cycle.Add to this the Ferrari's 91 litre tank, and you havecontinent-crossing capability, at least if you live inEurope.

Emissions are also slashed, being 25 percentlower than previous Ferrari V12s.

Bellissimo, as the Italians would say. Justbellissimo, with the car as tested here weighing atabout R4.2 million.

All is set for the annual Pietermaritzburg and District Soccer Associa-tion (PADSA) Easter tournament at the Protea Sports Complex and the Northdale Stadium.

The draw for the popular tourna-ment, which celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year, took place last weekend at Fusion Lounge in Raisethorpe.

Over 100 teams from the prov-ince and other parts of South Africa

will participate in the tournament. The team parade will take place

on Friday, March 29 along with the Grand Challenge game at the Northdale Stadium.

A queen contest, sponsored by Fusion Lounge will take place at Fusion Lounge in Gogas Road on Saturday, March 30.

All junior games will take place from Friday (March 29) to Sunday (March 31) at the Protea Sports Complex while all senior

games take place at the Northdale Stadium.

All fi nals will also be played at the Northdale Stadium, on Monday 1 April starting at 8am. Entrance fee is R10 per person.
