Dear Wolverines,
It is the time of year that we Give Thanks for the good things
in our lives. For our families, friends, health, teachers, time
with our children, doctors, our pets…we are thankful.
Our kids are thankful for popcorn Thursdays, new books,
turkey songs, bus rides, field trips, good teachers, new
friends, pepperoni pizza, and their loving families.
Our teachers are thankful for their students, small
successes, new books, sharpened pencils, clean desks,
happy parents, and for the opportunity to make a difference.
A Wellington mom recently told us that the little things in life remind her daily of how
precious life is and how fast it goes by. Her daughter brought a poem home from class to
share with her and said "Mom, this is you, it has everything in it that we love! Everything
about it makes me smile!”
This Wellington mom is thankful for her child's wonderful teacher and the great things she
exposes her students to, like poems.
Kim and I are thankful for you, our entire community. Happy Thanksgiving.
Funny Bird
The Turkey is a funny bird
It's head goes bobble-bobble.
And all he knows is just one word,
And that is Gobble-Gobble.
Warmly,
Elaine and Kim, PTA Co-Presidents

We Ate, We Drank, and Oh Boy Did We Bid Merry!
W ow, what a night
we had! There was
music and dancing,
delicious food and great
conversation! Our goal
was to bring our
community of grown-ups
together for a fun evening
out and to raise at least
$4,000 to support
valuable PTA programs and
services. With 140+ attendees
and lots of community
support, we were successful
at raising over $17,000 net
while having a good time with
old and new friends. Let’s hear it for putting the “fun” into
fundraising!
It takes a village! There are so many people to thank.
We’d like to start by thanking Andy, Ellie (1st Grade, Moran) &
Catie Pedack (Kindergarten—Mrs. Higginbotham) and Matt &
Emma Flaherty (1st Grade, Mrs. Emery). These five individuals
were amazingly supportive of Coleen and Jane throughout the
entire planning process. Without their love, patience, and
support none of this would have been possible.
Our amazing event sponsors:
Gold Sponsor: John L. Scott Real Estate—Ryan Wilkerson
(Wellington Dad).
Silver Sponsors: Banner Bank, Colonial Optical (Todd
Jubie—Wellington Dad) and Drs. Riedo, Geise and Van
Winkle - Infectious Disease and Travel Medicine (Dr. Bob
Geise—Wellington Dad).
Our Wineries and Breweries: Armstrong Family Winery; Castillo
de Feliciana Vineyards & Winery; Dirty Bucket Brewery;
Sparkman Cellars (Chris and Kelly Sparkman—Wellington
Family); and Triplehorn Brewing Co.
Our Musician: Paul Kinzer for entertaining us and making us
dance.
Our Caterer: Alexa’s Catering for the delicious food.
Dessert Bar: Sar.n.dipity Sweets (Sarah Brittingham—
Wellington Mom) for her beautiful and tasty treats.
Triplicate Bid Sheets donated by FedEx Office/Kevin and Julia
Brendt (Wellington Family).
Name Badges donated by KPMG /Matt Flaherty
(Wellington Dad).
A special thanks to Mr. Bagnall and the teachers, students,
and art docents for their art projects and teacher experiences
that raised a total of $1,350!
The Wellington and Woodinville Communities for all our silent
auction and Buy It Now donations!
Our Team:
Leslie and Bernie Deuster for
coming up with the idea for an
adult night out and for their on-
going assistance throughout the
process.
Hillary Minter for her amazing
design work on our Logo, Save the
Date flyer and Invitation.
Anissa Wheeler & Bonnie DeGroff
for transforming a Molbak’s
greenhouse into a gorgeous event
setting.
Meghan Whittle for all her help on
catering and event logistics.
Charlie “M.C. Leod” MacLeod for
sharing his personality and talents
as our emcee.
Brad Walker for procuring over
$5,000 in silent auction items.
Julia Brendt, Jennifer Carlson, Gina
Farina Ralph, Katy Hulsebus, Karla
Pak, Kristie Serra, and Debbie
Smith Margolies for all their work on our planning team.
Our Event Volunteers—Heather Goldy, Vanessa Graves, Ryan
Higginbotham, Marc & Amanda Lopez, Kelly Mitchell, Meg
Nafziger, Kari Petermann, Nicole Van Avery, and Elim Yoon for
helping to make the night run
smoothly!
And finally, we’d like to thank our
attendees for helping us surpass
our goals!

Wellington had another huge success
W e had many volunteers and special guests this
year. We are very excited for the new books that
were purchased/donated to the library and are looking
forward to the marvelous books Mrs. B is going to
purchase with the Book Fair return.
We want to give special thanks two incredible donors.
The first is to our anonymous Donor Angel. The angel
struck again this year and purchased numerous books
for every teacher and the student library. The second is
to the Low family. They purchased multiple books for
every teacher and the library. These two donor are truly
examples of what makes Wellington such an incredible
place. Thank you so much for your generosity!
Family night was another outstanding Wellington event!
We had a great turn out and we were given special
readings by Jo Testu-Rumsey, Mr. Bagnall, Ms. Kellison,
Mrs. Zehm, and Mrs. Emery. It was so much fun listening
to the kids and the excitement they had in seeing them.
Family night was followed up by announcing the winners
of the raffle prize baskets, which included Diary of a
Wimpy Kid books, Dave Pilkey books, a giant panda, and
much, much more. Thank you Cat and Mrs. B for getting
the donations and congratulations to all our winners!
A huge thank you to Cat Gustafson for the fabulous
decorations and for manning the book fair! She runs the
Book Fair with ease and make it the success that it is! A
big thank you goes to a core group of people that were
there all day, every day, and/or at the close of the day.
We could not have done it without you! This group
includes Dawn Harris, Grace Johnson, Patricia Bong,
and Robert Giese. Also, thank you Stacy Meyer for
organizing volunteers and for being there many, many
hours. The PTA sign-up website was wonderful!
We want to thank everyone that volunteered time as
well. Your contribution is the reason the book fair ran
and did so well! Thank you to Alina Damji, Amelia Wright,

Walk-a-Thon Update
W e are so thankful to all of you who pledged a
“Company Match” on your child’s Walk-a-Thon
sponsor form. These matches total $3,600 and helped
us surpass our fundraising goal.
To date, we have received confirmation on a little over
half of these matches ($1,860). If you haven’t
submitted yours to your company yet, please do so
today.
O ur first Creative drawing class has
just come to a close and was very
successful. About 35 students from
Kindergarten to 6th grade participated
after school for 6 weeks. The children learned to draw
rapidly, to take in what they saw and put pencil to paper
quickly and without hesitation, and to not worry about the
details or it being “perfect”. It was an enormous amount of
fun introducing the kids to still life, live model drawing,
pastels, and self portraits.
The first session of Pottery has also recently come to an
end and the Pottery instructors are looking forward to the
Winter session. Registration will occur shortly and be done
online through our website at www.wellingtonpta.org.

Helping Hands to Spread Holiday Cheer
O n Friday, December
6th, we will conduct
our annual Holiday Service
Project. All items will
benefit homeless children,
teens, and families with Friends of Youth. Since 1951, Friends
of Youth have been dedicated to develop, provide, and
advocate services for children, youth, their families and
communities throughout King and Snohomish Counties. We
will make decorations and ornaments to help local shelters
look festive for the season. We will also assemble goody bags
for children and hygiene kits for teens. Our goal is collect a
mountain of toys to share with children in need. While doing
your holiday shopping, pick up a toy to share. Please, send in
new, unwrapped toys between now and December 6th.
Donations can be put in our collection bin outside the office.
At our November project we assembled nearly 300 candy
bags that soldiers in Afghanistan will receive during the
holiday season. Our helpers also made hundreds of “Thank
You” cards for those sacrificing to keep us safe. Many of the
decorations we made at our project were used to decorate the
music room for the Wellington Veteran’s Day Assembly
Reception for veteran guests. John Kenny, with VFW Group
#2995 attended our project and told our helpers about why
he helps soldiers. When he was serving in World War II, he
received a hand made thank you card with a flag on it from a
school child. This meant so much to him that he carried it in
his pocket throughout his military service to remind him that
what he was doing mattered. His organization meets each
month to assemble between 100-200 comfort boxes for
soldiers. Our candy and cards have been included in their
14,000th comfort box mailed out this month! We are so happy
our candy bags and cards will be cheering up those soldiers
away from their families during the holidays. Thank you for all
your efforts to make our military service
people feel “Thanked”!
Helping Hands helpers assist the
community to make 250 more cards
Helping Hands members from the Goldy,
Harris, Stember, and Mann families ran a card making station
at the Northshore Schools Foundation Holiday Event at
Molbak’s from November 9th to 11th. An additional 250
patriotic and holiday cards were made for active duty military
personnel. It was a great way to spend some time during our
long Veteran’s Day weekend. It was so nice to see so many
Wellington families stop by to make cards!
All welcome
Participation in the Helping Hands Service Club is open to all
students and there is no cost to students to participate in this
PTA sponsored program. Participation forms are located
outside the Wellington office or on the PTA website. Families
are able to help with needed supplies by donating items from
our wish list. Donations can be left at any time in the Helping
Hands collection bin outside the school office. Parent
volunteers are also needed to help our projects run smoothly.
Let Caroline Ahlstrom know if you can lend a hand on our
project days from 12 to 1:15pm. We are excited for a year of
fun service!

PTA Membership Update
Parent Votes Matter!
W ellington, we have an important job to do this
February! The Northshore School District will have
three propositions on the February 2014 ballot in order to
continue to support student learning and alleviate the
growth challenges in our school district. The three
propositions are:
Renewal Education Operations Support Levy—23% of the
district’s budget for daily operations and educational
programs is provided by this levy. This levy will renew the
expiring levy we passed in 2010 and passage of this levy will
NOT add additional tax dollars.
Capital Projects Bond—This Bond will complete the final phase
of the Woodinville High School remodel, build a new 9-12
grade high school to help address significant enrollment
growth, improve student safety and security, and allow for
long-range facilities plan to modernize & replace aging
schools heating and ventilation systems, roofs, flooring and
boilers.
Renewal Technology Levy—This levy will continue NSD efforts
to stay relevant and keep up with changing technology, to
expand student computing devices, and to further integrate
technology in classrooms. This levy will renew the expiring levy
we passed in 2010.
Action Needed...Did you know that only 49% of the
Wellington Community voted in the last Bond/Levy
election of 2010? Lets make it our goal to have more
parents VOTE in February 2014 than ever before. If you
are not registered then do it now (you must register at
least 30 days prior to the election). Visit the Advocacy
section of www.wellingtonpta.org for information on how to
register.
We have some work to do over the next few months. Get
Informed... Read, listen, &/or attend information sessions
about the bond/levy. Get the word out... talk to friends and
neighbors about the bond/levy. Get out and vote in
February! Visit the advocacy section at
www.wellingtonpta.org,
www.citizensfornorthshoreschools.com, and www.nsd.org
for the most up to date information.
