Social behaviour means, how to behave in the society? Here we will focus on “Social Behaviour” and “Montessori method of teaching” it.

When a child comes to the out side world from his home environment he has to know how to behave in the society. For this the child must be introduced with some code of behaviour expected in the house of children.

Montessori method is an educational approach developed by an Italian physician and educator Maria Montessori. They have emphasized on:

Independence, freedom within limits and

respect for a child’s natural psychological,

physical and social development. Continue…

Ground rules for a Montessori presentation (1)

We have to give an “invitation” like, “let us see today, how to …… ?”.

We need to prepare the environment with necessary and sufficient things or persons, which is called “preparation”.

We have to give a “statement” like “see carefully, how to do……..”.

Now comes the “presentation” part, in which the ground rules are..

consider the position and visbility of the children,

The child to whom I ask should only reply or response. Continue…

Page 6: Pstti r&d

ask the children many questions like, “did I make noise..etc” after the completion of presentation. These questions should imply “control of error”. Specify the “points of interest”.

give a conclusion like “this is the way we do…..”

repeat the presentation from different orientation.

What is a Social Behaviour?

The manner or behaviour we behave in which the opposite person should not feel bad about us.

We or he should not suffer with that behaviour mentally or physically.

So we should learn perfectly “how to behave in the society?”

How to sneeze?

Now, let us see “how to sneeze?” Cleanly and with out disturbing others. Turn your face little bit opposite to other person spread napkin and then fold. if no napkin is there clean with hands and then wash hands properly in the wash basin.

If you don’t do like this, it will look awkward to see and also infections will spread to others also.

Suggestions

Every teacher though is a Montessori or Nursery teacher, he/she should teach the children the social behaviour as and when they enter into school.

He/she should be very patient to repeat these presentations irrespective to the age of the child.

In the house of children the social behaviour should not change from child to child and it should be a collective presentation.

Page 15: Pstti r&d

Conclusion A teacher should arrange a monthly discussion with

parents and discuss about the code of behaviour in the house of children

and asking to maintain the same behaviour at home and in the house of children.

Thus they can feel perfectness and easiness in their behaviour.
