Dear friends,

PSG Institute of Management is entering the 50thglorious year in its journey towards business excellence through management education. At this juncture, it is indeed a rewarding experience to revisit the year that has gone by. The report talks about a plethora of activities, awards, events and research initiatives that punctuated the entire year. With such vibrant initiatives, I am sure PSGIM will stand out and lead the PSG Institutions to glory. As one of the leading management institutions, PSGIM has always set benchmarks and that to me is excellence which has become a habit today. A lot of initiatives from academic research to consultancy to industry interaction has seen the institute reach the pinnacle of success and these measures will continue to transform management education and bring laurels to our esteemed institution.

I take this opportunity to commend the team headed by our Director Dr. R Nandagopal for a year for bringing out such a wonderful report. I wish all the very best and hope this will usher in a way of celebrating our achievements in a more classic way than ever before.

L. Gopalakrishnan Managing Trustee, PSG Institutions

Dear friends,

I take immense pleasure in presenting the annual report for this year. This report is a reflection of our attitude and global aspirations. This will be a great resource in a way that it tracks our activities, in the class, outside the class room and even cultural activities which we believe can impart and nurture humanistic values. It is to the glory of the institution that we have some of the best faculty members and best students from this part of the world.

At PSG Institute of Management the emphasis has always been to be entrepreneurial and industrious as is our legacy. With this, we give students ample opportunities to excel themselves in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. We also span a host of cultural events to relive and appreciate the flavour of our great nation's heritage and tradition and this helps them to be the global Indian. We have also had a lot of achievements in faculty and students and these are now recorded very well in the pages to follow. There are special pages on research and consultancy which is an important part of our academic and industry link initiatives and this has helped us emerge as thought leaders in many frontiers. This annual report will be an excellent reference to our achievements and a benchmark to the next academic year. I also would like to place on record the excellent work put in by our faculty team and the contribution of our students. The Institute will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee this year. At this juncture, we shall endeavour to achieve the aspirations of every one of our stakeholders

5.Research reportResearch study on first time voters in India and their influence on forthcoming Lok sabha elections

“A study on the perception of first time voters towards the current political situation in India” had been a brain child of Dr R Nandagopal, Director, PSG Institute of Management. The research study was carried out by the students of first year PGDM under the guidance of Dr Krishnaveni Muthiah, faculty, PSG Institute of Management. The class of PGDM consists primarily of working class executives. This project had set platform for students to experience practically the concepts of their paper on Research methodology and develop insights over conducting research by extending their learning through a real time survey. The survey team comprised of 60 students who were divided into groups of five to conduct surveys in the following five major cities: Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai and Salem.

The objective of this research was to understand the political awareness among the first time voters, Social media and its connect with politics, Dominant issues prevailing which have impact on voting, and Factors about the electoral candidate considered. First time voters in Tamil Nadu comprise of 62 lakh people contributing to about 11% of first time voters in India. Total number of first time voters across India is 12 crores. The sample surveyed range from the age group of 18-26 years and the total number of people surveyed were 3030 which is exactly .048% of the total number first time voters in Tamil Nadu. The data was analyzed and compiled into a report, which was published in the press (http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/home/lok-sabha-elections-2014/news/Youth-prefer-candidates-active-on-social-networking-sites-Survey/articleshow/33474898.cms)

Socially Responsible Initiatives at PSGIM

PSGIM indulged in a lot of CSR activities throughout the year. The institute has become active in the social media by opening an official page in Facebook. It has also initiated various campaigns to enhance its visibility across the country. A glimpse of the CSR activities during the year are presented below

Joy of Giving - October 2, 2013

Festival of giving is celebrated every year in the first week of October starting with October 2, the day celebrated as Gandhi Jayanthi. This year Joy of Living started with watering all the 60 - 75 tree saplings in PSGIM grounds, followed by students cleaning the campus, class rooms, restrooms in the PSGIM academic building, and PSGIM canteen. Some students also cleaned the Coimbatore Government Hospital. We were also able to gift happiness in the form of tricycle to a needy on the roadside.

Clean Drive Camp - November 8, 2013

PSG Institute of Management (PSGIM) organized one day 'Clean Drive Camp' on November 8, 2013 in association with Bykz (multi branded two wheeler service centre, Trichy road, Coimbatore). This is a humble attempt to reduce the emission levels of vehicles (two wheelers) used by the members of PSGIM community, and to increase the awareness of obtaining Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate once in every six months. Through this camp, we were able to serve around 140 vehicles (of staff and students of PSGIM).

"Free the Tree" Campaign - November 23 - 24, 2013

Trees, like humans, are susceptible to infection and disease when wounded, especially when the cause of the wound is poisonous. Nailing or wiring advertisements on trees has always been an offence, but it was not enforced properly. The metal boards, cloth banners and thick cardboard sheets mindlessly nailed onto the barks expose the trees to infection, growth suppression and slow death. On November 23 and 24 (Saturday and Sunday), students of first year and second year PGDM students from PSGIM engaged in an endeavor to remove nails in trees and advertisement boards nailed to trees in DB Road, and RS Puram. Through this activity they have also created awareness among the public in Coimbatore.

Blood Donation Camp - December 06, 2013

Blood is a portion of oneself that can be given when we are alive. Believing strongly in this, Youth Red Cross of PSGIM is organizing a blood donation camp (Third year in row with HDFC Bank) on December 6, 2013. This year we have partnered with Lions Club Blood Bank, who will store the blood received during

Gift of Literacy

The campaign was launched on Aug 15, 2013 with an objective of mobilizing books, magazines, novels, and

audio-visual learning resources that could be used by students from Classes I to Plus-Two. First year MBA and I

year PGDM Students of PSGIM visited households, and educational institutions, requesting for the same; they

also placed book collection boxes in various locations of the city for this purpose. Through this one month drive

they received around 14,500 books, which includes 30 years back volume of Readers Digest, English and Tamil

novels, magazine collections like Tinkle, Tell me why, story books, general reading, self-improvement books,

literature and fiction, spirituality, science and technology, business management, commerce and accounting,

some of the classic books from various disciplines in engineering, law books, auditing books, 50 years old

harmonium, DVD learning materials etc. The drive ended on September 30, 2013. Books received were gifted to

5 Government schools / Government aided schools located in the rural and semi-urban areas of Coimbatore

(suggested by the Chief Educational Officer, Coimbatore District; and the other one being PSG High School at

Vedapatti). They also received around 1000 college books (engineering, commerce, and management books) as

a part of this endeavor; these books were gifted to PSG Sarvajana Manavar Illam on October 24, 2013 during the

Diwali Celebration organized for them. One portion of the books / reading materials collected (around 2,500

books) was gifted to Lebara Foundation (who supports refugees and displaced children in developing countries)

on October 17, 2013. This camp for Sri Lankan refugees located in Pooluvapatti Panchayat town (Siruvani road)

accommodates 300 families, with 267 children.

this camp. Blood collected will be used for the children with Thalassemia (inherited blood disorder).

The camp witnessed an encouraging response from the donors. We were able to offer a gift of life to 495 beneficiaries by collecting around 165 units of blood (donated by our students).

Celebrating Diwali with people on Service: Being the reason for someone's happiness

While everyone awaits public holidays and festivals, to relax and have fun time with family, there are few group of people to whom these holidays mean lot of work. People in public service like Police, Fire rescue service, Doctors, etc don't have specific working hours, and they go through unpredictable eating and/or sleeping hours, especially during festivals. They hardly get time to spend with family; they are away from home on-duty, even on these festive occasions. There are no holidays for people in public service.

With a humble attempt to make someone's day, students of PSGIM celebrated their Diwali distributing sweets and snack (with a Diwali greeting card, and a thank you note) to those (350 members) on public service on this festive day. Traffic Police (from SITRA to Brookefields), Bus drivers and conductors in Gandhipuram, Singanallur, and Ukkadam bus stations, Coimbatore junction Railway employees, Corporation employees who help clean the roads, Fire and Rescue services employees were personally greeted on Diwali, with sweets and snacks.

Outreach activities - PSGIM Students

Following the request from various hospitals (PSGIMS&R, KMCH, and Ramakrishna) YRC PSGIM was able to arrange over 30 units of blood to the

Students

PSGIM offers a vibrant learning environment for students. The students were exposed to a bundle of experiential learning initiatives, Corporate Exposures and challenging opportunities. The multifaceted skills of the students were honed by these initiatives and they turned achievers
