Dear Brothers and Sisters, a Happy and Holy Easter! Today is the culmina on of the Gospel; it is the Good News which we now can proclaim: Jesus, who was crucified, is risen! The risen Jesus is the basis of our faith and our hope. If Christ were not raised, Chris anity would have no meaning; from the moment of Resurrec on, our Church was formed and from this point it first set out into the world and con nues to do so to this day. The message which Chris ans bring to the world is this: Jesus, Love incarnate, died on the cross for our sins, but God the Father raised him and made him the Lord of life and death. In Jesus, love has triumphed over hatred, mercy over sinfulness, goodness over evil, truth over falsehood, life over death. Pope Francis said in his Easter proclama on, “Are we o en weary, disheartened and sad? Do we feel weighed down by our sins? Do we think that we won’t be able to cope? Let us not close our hearts, let us not lose confidence, and let us never give up: there are no situa ons which God cannot change, there is no sin which he cannot forgive if only we open ourselves to him.” Let us not be closed to the Good News that God wants to bring into our lives. We can, with cer tude, know that our God can forgive anything we do. Pope Francis con nues, “Let us turn to the risen Lord! Welcome him as a friend, with trust. He is life! If up ll now you have kept him at a distance, step forward. He will receive you with open arms. If you have been indifferent, take a risk: you won’t be disappointed. If following him seems difficult, don’t be afraid, trust him, be confident that he is close to you, he is with you and he will give you the peace you are looking for and the strength to live as he would have you do.” This is the holiest and most joyous day in the Church Calendar. Let us all proclaim, “Jesus Christ is Risen Today, Alleluia!”

Easter

Page 3: Psalm 118:24 Easter Sunday · Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody, by Allen Hunt. Forgiveness is underrated mainly because it is underused. We fail to capture the power of forgiveness

“Give forgiveness and you will unleash a flood of grace on yourself and on those around you. When you clench your fists and grit your teeth in anger toward someone, you have no room in your heart for God to place His hand in yours. Replace your clenched fist with an open hand and watch as God fills your soul to overflowing.” is the simple lesson of the book Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody, by Allen Hunt. Forgiveness is underrated mainly because it is underused. We fail to capture the power of forgiveness because we are afraid of it, because we have grown comfortable in our familiar wounds, or because we are sinfully stubborn. But the power is there wai ng for us.

Shayne Golden, a parishioner at St. Louise de Marillac read the book and offers “ ‘To err is human; to forgive divine.’ What wisdom in these words! Former mega-church pastor and Catholic convert, writer and speaker, Dr. Allen Hunt’s book Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody, has stories of real people who experience forgiveness and felt the good grace of God. Who do you need to forgive?”

The St. Louise ministers will hand out Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody a er all Easter Masses. Tables will be set up outside the church. We would like everyone to have the opportunity to receive a book; our supplies are limited, so please one per family.

May God’s blessings be upon you this Easter Season.

Happy Easter!

REJOICE AND BE GLAD “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118:24). Let us remember that these words of today’s responsorial psalm are not only sung from the hearts of those gathered in our parish. They are also sung by the poor in ny barrios throughout Central and South America. They are also sung by those denied religious freedom in our world; these Chris ans li their voices in clandes ne places of worship. These words are sung by people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism and war around the globe. Even in midst of conflict and division, Chris ans s ll come together to declare that poverty, loneliness, violence, and division will never, ever have as much power as the life, death, and resurrec on of Jesus Christ. Indeed, let us rejoice this day and be glad! -J.S. Paluch Co., Inc.

HE IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! Easter eggs symbolize not only spring’s rebirth, but also Christ’s Resurrec on. Like his tomb, the egg is the hard, cold casket from which new life finally and triumphantly breaks forth. The Roman proverb Omne vivum ex ovo (All life comes from an egg) took on new religious significance. The Catholic Source Book (OSV).

EASTER EGG HUNT

Easter calls us to look at life with new eyes, an openness to new life. “The Resurrec on of Jesus makes all things new” (Rev. 21:5). With this new found Easter Spirit in our eyes, how might we enter our day with a posi ve a tude toward our family life, in our work, and in those with whom we struggle? We invite you to be open to this newness of Christ’s great love and to see the world through God’s eyes: eyes of love and compassion. As partners in the faith life of your children, we invite you to use these 50 days of Easter to discern the importance of faith in God and how you might see your life with new eyes of faith.

WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES FAITH IN GOD MAKE?

Pray for the healing of abuse vic ms.

Each of us, as members of our Catholic community, can contribute to the healing by remembering survivors of abuse in our prayers. The following prayer is from the USCCB.

Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people’s wounds and transform brokenness into wholeness.

Grant us courage and wisdom, humility and grace, to act with jus ce.

Breathe wisdom into our prayers and labors.

Grant that all harmed by abuse may find jus ce.

We ask this through Christ, our Lord.

Amen.
