PSA Poster Design – Progression 1 1.0 Group Members’ Names, Roles, and Competition Deadline Group members’ names and roles: o Farahain Abdul Mutalib - Assistant director, cinematographer o Hannah Hanif - Screenplay, director o Ng Jas Min - Storyboard artist, poster designer o Muhammad Syady Nayatra Rasyid - Editor, cinematographer o Sharon Leow Hsin Yuek - Script writer, poster designer Competition deadline: 14th June 2013 2.0 Poster Design Theme Our poster’s design revolves around the theme of glamour and luxury. It places a hefty focus on the high life that individuals may lead through the consumption of luxurious goods and services, proffered by the materialistic world that we live in today. An array of products and services such as expensive watches, designer handbags, up-to-date electronic devices, fine dining, and etc. are illustrated within our poster, engendering a lavish and expensive impression on viewers. 3.0 Video Clip Overview and Correlation with Poster Design Theme Our video clip is a brief portrayal of materialism within the lives of a university freshman Alice and her two friends, Heather and Daisy whose excessive spending habits and consumption are the pivotal focus of the entire story. On opposite poles is Alice’s mother, a single parent trying to make ends meet by taking on multiple jobs to cover Alice’s tuition fee. Alice’s gradual ignorance of her mother’s struggles in bringing the family income impels her to take on after her friends’ lifestyles, be concerned with the affairs of money and possessions instead of the relationship she has with her mother, and disregards her mother’s proposal on taking up a part-time job at a newly opened female departmental store, ultimately leading to a number of heated arguments. In her attempts to make well the mother-daughter relationship, Alice’s mother leaves an apology note and her monthly earnings for Alice’s semester fee payment. Alice evidently has other plans for the fee payment and settles for a designer handbag at the coincidentally similar departmental store her mother mentioned earlier. Our clip reaches its climax when Alice hands over the money at the checkout counter only to realize that the cashier was her own mother. Our video then ends with a tagline: Damaged relationships. You don’t have to pay the 'high price' of materialism. The process in selecting the topic for our video clip required us to brainstorm over different social issues that we deemed as relevant in our society today. Once we’ve made our selection on materialism, we were put through a process of disseminating

2.0 Poster Design Theme Our poster’s design revolves around the theme of glamour and luxury. 3.0 Video Clip Overview and Correlation with Poster Design Theme Our video clip is a brief portrayal of materialism within the lives of a university freshman Alice and her two friends, Heather and Daisy whose excessive spending habits and consumption are the pivotal focus of the entire story. survey questionnaires to identify the prevalence of materialism within our own local community, creating a mood board, developing a treatment that depicts the scenes of the video in more detailed terms, and even form a comprehensive story board of the video clip itself. There is a correlation between both our video clip and poster design theme by which certain scenes within the clip may capture the authenticity of the materialistic life (E.g. When Alice and her friends enter the departmental store where branded goods are displayed all around and when all three of them dine in luxurious style) that is also illustrated within the poster. Elements of the high life as mentioned in the former will ultimately allow the two mediums to act cohesively by way in which they complement each other by means of their underpinning themes of materialism, glamor, and luxury. 4.0 Logo Placement in Poster Design No, our poster design would not require a logo simply because we are of the opinion that the presence of a logo within our poster may interfere with its ability in communicating the true potential of its message to audience members. In order for our poster’s slogan - Collect Moments Not Things - to produce a strong and lasting impression, a logo should not be included for fear that it might add unnecessary noise and distraction to it. Also taking into consideration our poster’s limited space, only elements that play a vital importance should be included into it so as to not provide any clutter that might impede the reader’s thought process during its assessment. 5.0 Contest’s Sponsors and Sponsors’ Logo Placement in Poster Design The sponsors for the competition are Star Cruises, Cititel, Exabytes, TShirtKing, Golden Screen Cinemas, easy.myvoucher. Our poster design would not include the logo of each respective sponsor as poster space is of the essence and need not be filled with other extraneous information. However, the main sponsor’s logo of the contest ‘Youth Creative’ will be included for general reference and as the mandatory obligation that is stated in the terms and conditions. 6.0 Collection of Text and Images for Poster Design Images:
