Happy New Year!!
Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a peaceful and joyous holiday season and new year.
As this new year begins, this begins the countdown towards the state exams. To prepare your scholars, each teacher will assign weekly writing assignments to practice short/extended response format for homework. Please check scholar’s homework daily!!
Afterschool will resume January 3rd, every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 2:55-5:00. Please pick up your scholar on time from the program. If you would like for your child to attend, contact your child’s classroom teacher.

Curriculum for January 2017 ELA:
Scholars will summarize the main idea and supporting details of various texts to understand the authors key points.
(RI.5.1, 5.21)
Math:
Scholars will understand fraction operations to multiplication and division of both fractions and decimal fractions. (5.NF.3,4. )
Social Studies:
Scholars will study the issues of power, wealth, and morality during the period of exploration and colonization called European Exploration. (Scope and Sequence 1,2,3,4)
Science:
Students will learn how food, which is the main source of nutrients and energy, affects their growth and development.
(Science S. & S. 5.3a, 5.3b, 5.2g, 5.2e, 4.2a, 4.2b)
How Can You Help?
• Have your child practice vocabulary daily for all subjects.
• Create multiplication cards using index cards.
• Research primary sources to see why Europeans traveled
to the Americas.
• Visit your local library or
login to myON.com to read about the affects of zoos on
animals.
