Upon being elected as a school board trustee, I will bring 21 years experience of running a successful business in the area.

Our school district has been through many changes lately and we are moving into a new era in which I feel I can help guide and contribute to a school district we will ALL be proud of for ALL our children.

My children have either graduated or about to graduate from Crandall ISD. Therefore, I feel the need to give back to the district for all they did for my kids, and at the same time, I will have NO HIDDEN AGENDA or nepotistic views to affect my decisions made while serving on the board. I will bring a fresh business-minded approach to our schools.

NOW ENROLLINGfor Summer Scouts

John's Journeysby John Brooks, Pastor - Central Baptist Church, Crandall

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to agree to do something when the date for doing it is yet, weeks or months away? You are asked, almost casually, if a certain date or event in the future would Þ t into your schedule? You give it a ß eet-ing thought and say, Sure, I can do that.! And you mean it. It seems acceptable, doable, and almost pleasant. After that, you give it little more than a brief glance until you realize the thing that you agreed to do is quickly approaching and all of a sudden it seems like the most ridiculous, far fetched, and unreasonable thing you ever agreed to do.

Are you with me? Am I the only one that has ever agreed to do something and then begin to rue the day I agreed? Well, maybe it is because I seem to do things like this over and over and over again that I wonder why I dont learn to say NO!

My latest example: My dear wife, that I love almost more than life itself, sug-gested back in November or December that we sign up for the Rock n Roll Half Marathon. Now keep in mind that I love to run, and we were still months away from the actual race so I said, Sure, Honey, I would love to. But now that the time is drawing near, I wonder, What in the world was I thinking?

I have had serious interruptions in my training schedule caused by church work load, bad weather days, back trouble (couldnt get the couch off my back) and just general complications that made training difÞ cult. Now the time is here for me to lace up my running shoes and run for 13.1 miles with the lovely Mrs. Brooks. Right now the decision to make such a commitment seems ludicrous. Why a Half Marathon? Why couldnt I have agreed to a 5K or a 10K race? There are plenty of those races around and they are both far less than even half of the 13.1 miles I agreed to do. Lots of people have hinted and even more have come out and said Are you an idiot? I am now beginning to think yes, Im an idiot!

Oh, it is too late to back out now. I couldnt take the backlash of declining at this late date. Money has been paid. Date is here. Just Woulda, Shoulda, Coulda, have been better prepared. Now I recall First Corinthians 10:31, So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Okay, God! Im going to leave it all out there on the course to bring Glory to You. I just pray that by leaving it all out there, Im not left kicked to the curb somewhere between the start and mile 13! Next time, before you ask, the answer is NO!
