Catherine Krail Catherine Krail says, “Good friends are life’s greatest treasure.”Catherine met the love of her life, Don, when they were in a community theater production of “Our Town.” They played opposite roles as Emily Webb and George Gibbs. It took Don a little

while before he asked her for their first date to the Military Ball. It wasn’t long until they were married in 1942. Catherine worked at JC Penney’s and at Wiley Smith Optical Clinic. Later she joined her husband at their family business, Krail Jewelry. The drive-up tellers recall Catherine bringing in deposits, sharing stories and treating them at Christmas with a beautiful box of homemade toffee or turtles. “She always had a pleasant smile and made our day.” Catherine shared that life has been good for her with a wonderful childhood, great marriage and lots of good friends.

Caroline Rodewald A wonderful spirited woman with lots of energy is what Deb Geiger from our Howards Grove office shared about Caroline Rodewald. The staff from Howards Grove recalls many of Caroline’s visits to the bank. Her delightful stories and high energy levels made their day. She

always brought her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel along with her. Caroline and her husband, Milton, owned and operated Rodewald Buick dealership in Sheboygan for many years. Caroline was the backbone of the family. She has three children (Ann, Roger and Ronet), one granddaughter (Jennifer) and one “Super Special Great-Grandson” (Peyton). Caroline was a Sunday school teacher, church president and church delegate in New York. She was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Sheboygan until she was well into her 90s.

An updated listing for 2020 is available on our website or at any office.

The year 2020 is turning into the year of the roller coaster in the stock market.

After starting the year at over 3,200, the S&P 500 index fell

over 34% in less than four weeks between February 19 and March 23. Since the March 23 low of 2,237, the index has rebounded an astounding 50% and is back to 3,360 as of August 10.There are several important takeaways and reminders of investment fundamentals based on what has happened in the market this year:1. The future is always unpredictable. The COVID-19 crisis and its impact on the stock market should be the first example in retirement planning handbooks on why it is not useful to predict near-term movements of markets. 2. The stock market is not the economy. It is important to remember that what we call the stock market, such as the S&P 500 index or the Dow Jones Industrial Average, is only a small sub-set of all the businesses in our economy and these well-known indices are skewed towards

the very largest companies in our economy. The performance of these businesses often does not reflect what is happening on Main Street.3. Never underestimate the federal government’s ability to support the markets. Thus far in our nation’s history, our federal government has had an unlimited ability to spend money to provide fiscal stimulus to the economy and has had the ability to fund the spending by issuing an unlimited amount of debt. This unlimited “spend and issue debt” power has bailed the country out of every economic crisis it has faced so far, and it appears to be the case again with the COVID-19 crisis. Whether the federal government’s unlimited spending and debt accumulation will end badly is still a story in the making. What is certain is that the government’s current actions since March have had real and immediate impacts on investors in both the equity and fixed income markets. Ask Jim... “When will we travel again?”Jim Chatterton, President & COO Travel Awaits! Coronavirus has put the brakes on tours and dropped the sails on cruising. We are not sure how long before we will be back on the road. Unlike many tour operators who have cancelled tours for the entire year, we are choosing to assess tours each month

based on the destination, the structure of the tours and advice from our partners.

Our number one priority is the safety of our travelers. We are also concerned with the safety of our employees, our motor coach drivers

and the many vendors that we work with. Following the CDC guidelines and watching the status of the locations we are traveling to are also a part of the decision. We want you to receive the full experience that group travel with NEBAT provides and the tour you are expecting – many venues are closed, short-staffed, or limiting the number of participants entering. We have been very fortunate that many of the tours we were unable to do have been rescheduled, with the plan of offering them next year. It’s been a tough time for everyone - we understand you miss your friends, fellowship and good food. We appreciate your patience and understanding. We are going to get through this and when we do, we will be ready to enjoy those wonderful memories and experiences you expect from GYC.Submitted by: I’m Tired of Being Home
