PROVISO TOWNSHIP DISTRICT 209 PRESENTS NEW SCHOOL SPIRIT FOR
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT WITH
UNVEILING OF NEW THEME “PROVISO RISING”
Forest Park, IL (September 20, 2007) – Proviso Township District 209, in a
symbolic gesture to demonstrate a renewed commitment to community involvement and
academic achievement, unveiled a new theme during last week’s homecoming festivities
at Proviso West high school.
The theme, “Proviso Rising”, is the name given for the district’s new initiative
designed to promote more involvement from students, parents and other members of the
District 209 community.
“Proviso District 209 has a rich legacy of education, athletics and, or course,
community,” said District Superintendent Robert Libka. “I’m proud to stand before you
today to say that Proviso District 209 has a new attitude, new direction and a solid plan.”
“‘Proviso Rising’ represents a unique opportunity for all of the stakeholders of
District 209,” said Emmanuel “Chris” Welch, Board president. “It is my expectation that
as each of us embraces the promise presented by this initiative and commits to giving the
best we have for ourselves and to each other, the future of the district will continue to get
brighter.”
District 209 is already showing its new found spirit through recent events held in
the township. On September 6, The District 209 Board and Proviso West high school
hosted an interactive open house. Students, parents and other members of the community
had an opportunity to tour the new renovated facilities of Proviso West. The event was a
great success, having attracted students, parents and other stakeholders.
On Saturday, September 22, Proviso West was the talk of the town as it took over
the streets of Berkeley, Westchester and Hillside for the school’s annual homecoming
parade and games. The games were fantastic; this year’s opponent was Downer’s Grove
North. The freshman team lost by only 4 points (10-6), the sophomore team won 28-0
and the varsity reeled in a win beating Downers 8-6. The picnic was excellent and fun.
The food was great and the camaraderie was fantastic.
To top of the day, Frankie from WGCI was the host at the homecoming dance,
entertaining more than 1,000 students. As a special treat, KeKe Palmer from the movie
“Akeela and the Bee” arrived to sign autographs and to take pictures with the students.
Meanwhile, Proviso East high school celebrated its annual homecoming on
Saturday, September 28 with a parade followed by two football games. “This was a
wonderful day to share with students, parents, teachers and the community,” said
Principal Milton Patch.
