3 Recommended Hard Disk Usage If you have two hard drive disks, Harris Stratex Networks recommends installing ProVision as follows: Installing the operating system on the first hard drive. Installing ProVision Server and the database on the second hard drive. 4 Documentation ProVision documentation is provided in online help with the software and in PDF format on the DVD: ProVision User Guide ProVision Installation and Administration Guide 5 ProVision License A 60-day evaluation license is incorporated in the ProVision application on the DVD. The permanent license request form is also on the DVD. Harris Stratex Networks recommends that you return the Customer License Request Form as soon as possible. For more licensing information, read Chapter 4 in the ProVision Installation and Administration Guide. 6 Disabling Firewall on Server Any firewalls running on the Solaris server must be disabled. 7 Installing Java To install ProVision on a Solaris 9 or 10 server, Java 1.6.0_16 must be installed on the server. Use the Java installer provided on the ProVision installation DVD. 1. Copy the file jre-6u16-solaris-sparc.sh from the DVD to the directory where you would like to install Java 1.6. Run the command: chmod 777 jre-6u16- solaris-sparc.sh 2. Run the Java installer with the command: ./jre- 6u16-solaris-sparc.sh 3. After accepting all the Java license agreements, you should see the Installation wizard. Proceed through this set of screens. 4. When installation is complete, you need to create a new symbolic link to new Java version. First, remove any old symbolic link with the command rm /usr/ java 5. Create a new symbolic link for Java: ln -s <fulldirectorypath>/jre1.6.0_16 / usr/java 6. Check that the Java installation has the correct version number,”1.6.0_16” by running the command: java -version 8 Installing Solaris Server Software To install the ProVision server software for Solaris: 1. Insert the ProVision Installation DVD. 2. Log into ProVision as superuser/root. 3. From the DVD, copy the file install.jar to the directory where you would like to install the server. 4. From the Command window, run the following command: chmod 777 install.jar 5. From the Command window, run the install file: java -jar install.jar 6. The ProVision Solaris Installation wizard opens. Follow the instructions in the wizard. Close the wizard when installation has completed. 7. Copy any licenses required into the ProVisionServer directory. 8. From the Command window, enter the directory created by the installer: cd ProVisionServer 9. In the Command window, start the ProVision server by running the command: ./pv_service start 10. You need to do one of the following: Add the Sun server hostname and reverse lookup (of ip address to hostname) to the DNS server OR Add the ProVision server hostname and ip address into the host file of every ProVision client (required for good performance when using a Sun server). 9 Installing Client Software The client software must be installed on a standalone PC. To install the client software: Ensure that you have administrator rights for the PC where you are installing the ProVision Client software. Then: 1. Insert the ProVision Installation DVD. 2. Select Install Client Software or browse the DVD and double click the client_setup file. 3. Click Open. 4. Follow the installation instructions, accept all defaults, and install the client software in the default location. 5. Click Close. 6. On the client PC, start a client ProVision user session to verify the install: 7. Select Start > Programs > ProVision Client > ProVision Client. 8. Set up all users of this ProVision Client installation with Modify rights to the \ProVisionClient\ directory on this PC. 10 Installing Client Software from the Server Use this procedure if you are at a remote PC and do not have the ProVision DVD. You need to know the server’s IP address to access the ProVision client software. 1. On the client computer open a web browser window. 2. In the Address text entry box, type http://<server IP address>:8080 The server’s directory listing is displayed. 3. Click the client_setup.exe. 4. Click Open. 5. Follow the installation instructions, accept all defaults, and install the client software in the default location.

11 Starting a ProVision User Session To start a user session:

1. Select Start > Programs > ProVision Client > ProVision Client.The ProVision Login window is displayed.

2. Type the following information in the fields:User: adminPassword: adminServer: <server name>

3. Click the Login button.The ProVision User Interface is displayed.

4. Change the admin password. Refer to the ProVision Installation and Administration Guide.

ProVision 6.5.1Solaris Quick Start Guide

This document provides an overview of the Harris Stratex Networks ProVision installation and start-up for a Solaris installation.

For comprehensive installation procedures, read the ProVision Installation and Administration Guide.

1 Minimum Hardware RequirementsThe minimum ProVision hardware requirements for a server or client only PC are:

Hardware requirements depend on the type of ProVision configuration and the size of the radio network to be managed. For detailed information, refer to the Release Notes and the ProVision Installation and Administration Guide.

2 OS Software RequirementsTo run ProVision, your system must have:

• For ProVision Solaris Servers - Solaris 9 version 8/03 or 4/04, Solaris 10.

• For ProVision Clients - Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista.
