Durham and Northumberland have a very strong relationship going all the way back to the days when the two were still joined as one. The separation of the two provinces did not lessen this strong bond and many visits and much co-operation continued. Taking the Presidency of the Lodge of Instruction Festival is one example of this. The LOI Team presented a demonstration of an advancement which was much enjoyed and appreciated by all the brethren. The PGM of Northumberland was so impressed that he related to the assembly that he wants to establish a Lodge of Instruction in his own Province of Northumberland, as he could see how this can benefit the brethren and lodges in his own Province of Northumberland. At the festive board VWBro. Frank Rankin,PGJO, was presented with a cheque for £500 for the Centenary Celebration Fund by VWBro. Stuart R.Ingram,PGJO. VWBro. Rankin thanked the brethren in his reply to the presentation. The evening continued in good spirit and humour with some excellent speeches and toasts, finally closing a great night and looking forward to the same success next year. Frank inAugust that the representative of theProvincial Grand Master RWBro.Norman Eric Heaviside on thisoccasion would be none other thanVWBro.Professor Keith Wilson, PastDeputy Provincial Grand Master inthe Craft and Provincial Grand

Master of the Mark Degree inDurham. As Frank said, “ well it is a greatpleasure to have your boss as theRepresentative and I am sure wewill have a great attendance”. Thisstatement proved to be correct andwhen the Inner Guard closed thedoor of the lodge following theadmittance of the representative, there were 25 Craft Grand LodgeOfficers assembled on the floor andmany more Grand Mark LodgeOfficers in attendance. What a spectacle with 110 Brethrenin the lodge room and not a spareseat in sight.Following the salutations the lodgeDofC, WBro.Martin Rankin, proudlypresented his farther W.Bro.Frankfor the benefit of installation. W.Bro.Frank was very ably installed intothe chair by the Installing Master,WBro. David Patterson. Theaddress to the Worshipful Masterwas delivered in a very moving

Being agood friend of Frank and his wifeMargaret the exploits of manyrecent cruises he had spent with hiswife Val and Margaret and Frankwhere secrets no more.A night to remember by allconcluded with the TylersToast at10.30pm. F.R.

Like many of us, W.Bro. Allan Gurney will be out and about at many Lodges, Chapters, andother Masonic events over the next few months.

However, you may see him struggling under the weight of a 1 litre bottle of malt whisky(Bowmore Islay). You can relieve him of his burden by buying a number for £1 (yes, it’s a steal -only 1 pound Sterling for a litre of malt whisky!). This will enter you into the draw for the saidbottle, which will be held in June.

All proceeds from the draw are to be donated to the 2021 Festival. So, get those £1 coins out,Brethren!
