The Problem
Out-of-pocket-payments (OOP) causes impoverishment:
About 1.3 billion people worldwide cannot access effective and affordable health care if needed
Every year more than ca. 150 million individuals face financial catastrophe
About 100 million individuals fall into poverty each year by the need to pay for health services

Lack of awareness and understanding of social health protection (SHP)
Much funding goes into vertical programmes SHP not adequately integrated into national health
plans and policies Inadequate and fragmented policy advice and
technical support High transaction costs through duplicated efforts

P4H is in the design phase P4H will work in close cooperation with the
International Health Partnership (IHP) P4H will focus on sustainable domestic health
financing structures for social health protection

Ensuring complementarities by pooling resources and expertise
Allowing the coordinated formulation of policies options for countries
