Reading, Writing, Math, and Technology!!!Technology is the common bond that ties everything

together. Technology is no longer something teachers can stick in the back of the classroom and worry about getting to later. Technology has moved to

the front of the line.

Schools are being equipped with the newest technology “gadgets” available. New teachers are able to help train veteran teachers with new types of media. Help change “computer geeks” into “Superstars”. Teachers who have an interest in technology like teaching again.

Too much, too fast FEAR!! Change!! Not enough MONEY TIME NOT ENOUGH PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT!!! ****

Providing and Promoting Professional Development Technology:

School leaders need to have long term and short term goals set for the school and hold parties accountable for learning. (Vision, goals, and expectations).Need to focus on teacher and students’ needs and experiences. School leaders need to stay current with the constant changes being made in the world of technology. School leaders must also be willing to learn and grow as well as from the professional development. Must be willing to beg, borrow, and steal resources in order to help ensure professional growth.

Key Strengths Reported: o Teachers feel more comfortable using technology for personal productivity, and for gathering and analyzing student achievement data.o School administrators, teachers, students, and parents feel strongly that technology is critical to prepare for 21st Century school and work.o The number of computers available to students has continued to increase.

Improvement Areas:• Administrators and teachers report that they are not receiving the necessary digital literacy skills needed to prepare students (or lead the charge) for 21st Century work.• Schools are not keeping pace with the current technologies that will be required for success in the 21st Century.• Parents want teachers to use technology tools to improve home-to-school communications, student achievement, and organizational skills.

Schools.

The seventh annual Chiquita Marbury Technology Innovation Award, sponsored by the Alabama Department of Education, has been awarded to Mr. Patrick Patterson, Principal of Eva School, Morgan County Schools. This award is named in honor of Chiquita Marbury (1952-2002), who served the Alabama Department of Education for many years as a passionate visionary in technology integration. Each year one award is presented to four outstanding educators in the categories of Teacher, School Administrator, District Technology Coordinator, and Central Office Instructional Leader. Nominees are judged based on Innovation and Creativity, Impact on Teaching and Learning, Leadership, Teamwork, and Scholarship.

• The 21st Century Classroom proposal is to inundate every classroom with the most up to date technology, including: interactive boards, LCD projectors, clickers, and updated student stations. In addition, each instructor will be provided professional development on the use of this new technology. • This project should yield higher quality instruction, higher student engagement, and consequently, increased student achievement.

• The Morgan County School district is made up of 18 different schools with approximately 5,000 students. Included in that district are the schools of Eva and Union Hill, both of which are made up of 400+ students with 50% or more on free and reduced lunch. Eva School and Union Hill School are AMSTI and ARI trained.

• In October 2009, the principals of Eva and Union Hill Schools conducted a site analysis of all classrooms, and determined where the interactive boards and other hardware would be installed.• This consisted of interviews with teachers, students, and representatives from e-instruction. •Schematics of each room were drawn and sent to installers for analysis and approval. •In November 2009, Title I funds and ARRA funds were used to purchase interactive boards, and projectors for all K-8 classrooms at both Union Hill School and Eva School.

• Remaining funds will be allocated for Interactive boards and projectors in remaining classrooms on an as needed basis, and will be determined by the Leadership Team.• Each school secured West Martin, e-instruction salesman, for 8 hours of Professional development at each school, during grade level planning periods. Eva and Union Hill are planning a joint In-service day in August 2010 with grade level experts on the use of Interactive boards in K-8 classrooms.

•After thorough evaluation of “Project 21st Century”, the Eva School Leadership Team and the Union Hill Leadership Team will compile its findings, and report those to the faculty of Eva School, the faculty of Union Hill School, Director of Elementary Education, Anne Vest, Director of Secondary Education, Vicki Smith, Director of Federal Programs, Dr. Wanda Doss, Morgan County Schools Superintendent, Bob Balch, and Samford EDU 630 instructor Dr. Nancy Curry.
