– “It is some kind of a saying. It is usually short, and it is meant to make you think and reflect. The proverb is supposed to teach you something, share something of wisdom” (Clemson Community Church, Clemson, SC).

Proverbs 1:2-6• To know wisdom and instruction, to understand

words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth--Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles. Proverbs 1:7• The fear of the LORD is the beginning of

knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. (ESV)

• Proper attitude of reverence, fear, awe of God—recognize his role!

• Fools—the opposite of the wise.• Wisdom is the goal, instruction is the method.
