Teleprotection Equipment is crucial for the overall protection of the Power Network. It plays a vital role in the fast isolation of faults on the network and prevents outages and blackouts. Security and Dependability have always been the hallmark of ABB Teleprotection Equipment and the NSD570 is no exception. Its security and dependability fi gures are noteworthy and they exceed the recommendations stipulated under IEC 60834-1.

High Speed Operation
The NSD570 is designed for very fast clearance of faults. In analog links, it is possible to achieve command transmission times of the order of 6 ms for time critical applications. Transmission times are even faster with digital links.
The isolation of faults with extra- ordinary speed protects expensive equipment such as transformers, reactors and other critical electrical components.
Adaptive Signal Processing
The NSD570 features adaptive signal process-ing. This feature ensures that for any given application, the system will automatically choose the shortest transmission times.
Performance optimized to application. Human failures due to manual calcula- tion and settings can be avoided.
Type testing
The NSD570 has successfully passed a rigorous type testing program, witnessed and certifi ed by KEMA Netherlands. The test program was comprehensive and exceeded the IEC60834-1 standard for such equipment.

Reliability
The NSD570 has been inherently designed to achieve a high level of reliability. The relay/command interface includes a single component failure monitor which blocks the command outputs on the detection of any failure. Power supply units can be duplicated on the racks to further enhance redundancy. Guarantee against equipment failure and
unwanted tripping.
Flexibility & Availability
The NSD570 is suitable for analog and digital communication links. The system allows 1+1 operation for redundant schemes with enhanced availability requirements. One or two systems can be accommodated within a single shelf. It is possible to have a mix of analog and digital systems within the same sub-rack.
User specifi c solutions and enhanced availability options.
Automatic Loop-Test Feature
As faults in the network are unpredictable and can occur any time without warning, Teleprotec-tion Equipment must be continuously available. This is ensured by the automatic loop-test fea-ture. With this feature, the protection channel performs an automatic loop-test to monitor the correct functioning of the equipment and com-munication link.

Browser based HMI
The NSD570 features a browser based User In-terface (Explorer, Netscape, etc.) which makes commissioning, operation, and supervision of the unit very simple and user-friendly. This browser based HMI makes operation as simple as browsing the web.

Comprehensive Self-Test Diagnostics
The NSD570 is equipped with comprehensive self-test diagnostics that continuously monitor the system functionality. Front panel LEDs and an integrated LCD display (option) indicate the status of the equipment without requiring ad-ditional tools.
