It’s a iodinated compoundcharacterized by a biocide activityused as a preservative, fungicide and algaecide in industrial formulations such as:

– paints and coatings;– in metalworking; – in the protection and preservation of wood;– it’s also added to polymer formations to prevent the growth of fungi and bacteria in products obtained from polymers.

Cocrystals between IPBC 5

Cocrystals are solid crystal structures composed of two or more components, that interact by means of non-covalent bonds (for example hydrogen bonds).

The present invention relates to cocrystals of 3-iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC), a biocidal agent used as preservative, fungicide and algaecide in industrial formulations such as paints and coatings, in metalworking and in the protection and preservation of wood.

Cocrystals between IPBC and a second component are not known in the state of the art.

The cocrystals according to the invention are obtained by synthesis in the solid state or in solution. They can be formed by a supramolecular approach involving assembly of IPBC with selected chemical species called cocrystallisation agents, which are able to establish non-covalent interactions involving the iodine atom present on the molecular structure of IPBC.

The cocrystallisation agents used are:

Organic bases

Aliphatic amines or aromatic heterocyclic derivatives containing at least one basic nitrogen atom

Halides

Phosphates

Carboxylates

IPBC and the cocrystallisation agent are present in a molar ratio raging between 2:1 and 4:1

The cocrystals of IPBC may contain additives and other biocidal agents.

The invention relates to cocrystals containing 3-iodopropynyl butyl carbamate (IPBC) and to compositions containing said cocrystals, which posses improved physical, chemical and workability properties compared with the use of IPBC.

Wearable system for swimmers

– The project consists of a wearable system for swimmers.

– It is a sensorized swimwear able to detect the heart rate and the athlete's performance data in real time.

– Two electrodes are placed on the costume for receive the heart rate from which it is possible to identify the swimmer’s metabolic range.

Description

It is a system formed by two main components:–A sensorized costume;–The system brain.–The first is a real system on which are sewn in the fabric of the electrodes can detect the heart rate of the swimmer. The measured parameters are sent via cable to the brain, which processes the data.–The brain is equipped with an accelerometer that allows to understand the movement of the swimmer identifying many parameters of the swim. All data are then sent to an external platform through a simple graphical interface that allows you to read all the parameters measured.

Description

The system heart is a small element that is connected to the swimwear. This part contains:– an electronic circuit for the detection of one or more ECG leads;– an accelerometer that can detect the movements of the swimmer on three axes

x, y, z;– a processor that processes the data coming from the ECG and accelerometer;– rechargeable batteries;– a transmitter that allows you to send the collected data outside of the pool.

The system is composed by the upper part of a swimwear. In the back part it is applied a small electronic device in a waterproof pocket.

What we can evaluate•Evaluate both the technique swim, both performance / activities of the swimmer, so as to obtain complete data in relation to training.

•The acceleration of the swimmer, the movement along the three Cartesian axes X, Y and Z so as to have an indication of the movement in order to assess the technical component referring to the various styles of swimming and consequently allow to correct any errors position and movement.

•In particular, the acceleration reference axis lateral side allows to evaluate the movement of strokes and kicks in freestyle and backstroke. The acceleration referring to the vertical axis allows to assess the trend in the style breaststroke.

The technical features expressed in the claims define the invention for which has been granted an exclusive right to an applicant with respect to use, production and sale.

Is it easy to get a patent? No, it takes time and money to argue against patent examiners’ rejections, especially to obtain broad and commercially useful claims.

A first step is to understand what is an invention and what can become patentable subject matter. Not all legal systems have a positive definition of an invention.The European Patent Convention doesn’t define the concept of invention, but it rules out what is not patentable subject matter:• Discoveries, scientific theories and mathematical

methods;• Aesthetic creations;• Schemes, rules and methods for performing mental

acts, playing games or doing business and programs for computers;

• Presentations of information.

A patent shall be granted for any inventions, in all field of technology, provided that they are new, involve an inventive step and are susceptible of industrial application.

The first formal step is the submission of a patent application.

Types of filings:• National• Regional (EPO, ARIPO, EAPO, OAPI)• International (PCT)

After the national filing there is one year to decide whether or not to extend the patent.

Some countries are not member states of PCT (e.g. Argentina, Taiwan).

Depending on the country, patent applications may be subject to mandatory examination.18 month after the initial submission, the application will be published.

A «patent world» doesn’t exit but by filing a PCT patent application, an applicant can seek protection for an invention in 148 countries.

PCT is basically an option for future patenting, that provides the applicant with a further delay before deciding to apply or not.

The PCT process provides the advantage of a longer investigation of the technological potential of the invention, and in case of a negative assessment, the application can be withdrawn before entering into expensive national or regional phases.
