STREAMLINE
INTRODUCTIONPROTEC is a brand name for Mueller Polyethylene coatedcopper tube. The copper tubecoated with Polyethylene is toBritish Standard EN1057.This Standard specifies therequirements for copper tubes instraight lengths to half hard, hardtemper or coils in the annealedcondition.The tube is manufactured fromphosphorus deoxidised (nonarsenical) copper alloy CW024Aand the plastic to BS 3412. Tubecomplying to these tables issuitable for hot and cold waterservices, gas services, sanitationand central heating. These plasticcoated tubes will withstandtemperatures up to 95°C (203°F)with occasional peaks up to110°C (230°F). The plastic istightly extruded on to the coppertube in a seamless andcontinuous run, it is durable andmore effective than some othermethods of protection againstenvironments which may beaggressive to the copper tube.
The plastic coatings are applied invarious colours to identify its usein service. Blue and green forwater, yellow ochre for gas andwhite for central heating.
APPROVALMUELLER tube EN1057 conformsto the requirements of the BritishStandards Institution and hasearned the right to use theKitemark as evidence ofcompliance of these tubes to theBritish Standard BS EN 1057 andhave Registered Firm status to BS
EN ISO 9001 : 2000 : FM 00452.
MARKINGTube from 15mm to 108mminclusive is marked ‘Wednesbury STREAMLINE GB(Kitemark) EN 1057’ at intervals of1000mm. The copper tube ispermanently die marked every600mm in a similar mannertogether with the date ofmanufacture, to the relevantLabel.

JOINTINGThese tubes are suitable forconnecting by means of capillaryor compression fitting to BS EN1254, silver brazing, bronze or autogenous welding.When jointing, cut the plastic andfold back (see photograph), makejoint and return the plastic to itsoriginal position, cover split plastic and joint with animpervious plastic tape to givecontinuous protection.
BENDINGWith the exception of hard temper,Protec tube can be bent with easeon bending machines or withinternal springs. These machinesmust be specific for bendingplastic coated copper tube whichhave special size formers toaccount for the increaseddiameter. Manufacturers ofbending machines such asHilmor, Tubela, Consort etc, areable to supply hand or freestanding machines of this type.Bending by spring is normallylimited to a maximum size of22mm diameter. Internal springsare available for tube up to thissize but tight radii bends are notadvised.

Fold back to reveal copper. Be sure not to aim the blowtorch directly atthe plastic
When the joint is complete and cool, foldback the plastic coat and wrap the joint togive continuity of protection.
