Message from the Executive Director
My Reflections
There are so many little moments throughout the day that I look back on and am grateful.
Random acts of kindness like a friendly smile at the grocery store, someone who holds the door
to the bank when my hands are full of papers, or someone who picks up a piece of garbage to
respect our environment. For all these gestures and many more…I smile to myself.
But what makes me smile the most is being at Prosper Place with all of you! Whether it is by
telephone, email, or in-person…I am grateful for all of you! We appreciate each other for who
we are and work together as a team.
The little things are so important:
• Say “please” and “thank you” – it warms
the heart
• Take a moment to enjoy the smell of the
air (grass, flowers, forest)
• Give someone a compliment
• Feel your positive emotion when you
express gratitude to others
My heart is full.

Albert Einstein Biography
Albert Einstein was born on March 14, 1879 and died April 18, 1955 at the ripe old age of 76! He
was a German-born theoretical physicist who developed the theory of relativity, one of the two
pillars of modern physics (alongside quantum mechanics). Albert had an IQ of around 160, which
is significant. This puts him in the genius category.
IQ, or intelligence quotient, is a score of mental ability relative to one's peers of the same age. IQ
scores are normalized so that 100 is average. About two-thirds of the population scores within
16 points of 100 in either direction, so between about 84 and 116, said Robert McCall, a
psychologist at the University of Pittsburgh's Office of Child Development. Roughly 2.5 percent
of the population scores above 130, McCall told Live Science, though the precise numbers depend
on the exact test taken. (There are many variations.)
Throughout Einstein’s lifetime, he achieved much more than the average person! He wrote four
major papers that revolutionized the scientific community! It was his third paper that turned the
universe upside down! Much of his work was based on thought experiments! One thought
experiment was, if you could travel at the speed of light, what would a light wave look like?
Another one was, if you were in a train that neared the speed of light, would you perceive time
and space differently? These conclusions became known as the special theory of relativity—no
matter how fast you are moving toward or away from a source of light, the speed of that light
beam will appear to be the same, a constant 186,282 miles per second (56.779 km/s or
204,403.513 km/h)! Can you imagine if you could travel that fast? In 1921, he won the Noble
Prize for his services to theoretical physics.
A comical illusion is reported to have occurred to him when he became overwhelmed by inquiries
regarding the most famous equation in the world: “When you sit with a nice girl for two hours
you think it’s only a minute, but when you sit on a hot stove for a minute you think it’s two hours.
That’s relativity.” A quote that concurrently recommends his humor and his reputation as a witty
Casanova. It’s often said that the mathematician could have been an accomplished musician in
another life by reason of his mastery of the violin.

Capturing Moments
I took this photo in June 2020 during one of my walks. It amazes me how cameras have evolved over the years because this beautiful captured moment was taken with my Smartphone.
Riel Recreation Park, St. Albert
Our theme for this month’s newsletter is Science and Technology. Summer is also upon us.
When you’re out and about this Summer, take some time to capture a moment with your camera or SmartPhone.
Then, if you want, share it with us. Along with a few words, tell us what the photo means to you. Your captured moment could win a prize! See page 13 for more details.

I like the dark
Watching the northern lights
Thunder and lightening
Some would be scared
But not I
I can hear the wolves howl
The wind blowing
The stars dancing in the night
They say if you dream
When it’s dark they’ll come true
I dream of a life free of pain
Sadness and brokenness
I stare at the trees as they dance
The music is the wind
Nothing happens when it’s dark
Nothing happens until the sun rises
In the dark I hear your voice
I cry each time you say hi
I wish we were still together
But darkness I’d rather have
Because in the dark
I can be me, I can be something different
I can be happy
I can be free
I can be lost
Lost in a dark world
Come darkness my friend
Take my hand and lead me
To a place I can roam Darkness is my home By Dwayne
