Management of Learning DisabilityNow- a-days parents and the school authorities are well aware of the problems of the learning backwardness of the children who are suffering from various ‘Learning Disabilities’ (LD).

This problem need to be addressed at an early stage to help such students to succeed in their academicsand future life. But trained experts or training centres on LD are very rare. In order to assess, diagnose and provide suitable remedial support to the children with LD, the service of trained Learning Disability experts and professionals is necessary. This situation made SRC to think about starting a Certificate course and a Diploma course on Learning Disabilities in distance mode, so that the working teachers, prospective teachers, aspirant teachers and unemployed educated persons can participate in this course. This course is more relevant in the context that CBSE schools are looking for experts to support the children with SLD and Special Education Needs (SEN).

This certificate course will help the participants to acquire necessary knowledge about variousdisabilities and expertise in identifying and providing support for the children with SpecificLearning Disabilities. We hope that this course will provide a vast conceptual understanding andnecessary practical knowledge to work as an expert in the field of learning disability. As thiscourse is designed as a credit system, those who pass the CMLD course can pursue the Diplomacourse in Learning Disabilities conducted by the SRC by spending 6 months more to become aprofessional in this field.

Ayurvedic Therapy & ManagementAyurveda, the age old medical system of India is getting much importance among the healthcare systems of India as an alternative safest natural preventive and curative measure. Apart from the notable growth as a medical system it is also attaining much importance in wellness and beauty care industry. For the last 15 years, Ayurveda became an inevitable part of Indian Health/Medical is a high demand of Ayurvedic professionals and paramedical manpower as the industry is growing very fast.

Even though there are organised educational systems for making qualified Ayurvedic practitioners, there is still lack of good institutes providing quality education for Ayurvedic para medical staff and nurses both in Government and private sector. This demands a quality course for giving proper training to create professionally trained Ayurvedic therapists and Panchakarma assistants.

Montessori Teacher Training

Montessori education is an educational approach developed by Italian physician and educator.Dr. Maria Montessori. It is based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborativework. In Montessori classrooms children make creative choices in their learning, while the classroom and the teacher offer age-appropriate activities to guide the learning process. Children work in groups and individually to discover and explore knowledge of the world and to develop their maximum potential. It nurtures each child’s individual strengths and interests.

Montessori education encourages children to explore their world, and to understand and respect the life forms, systems and forces of which it consists. Montessori classrooms are beautifully crafted environments designed to meet the needs of children in a specific age range. Dr. Maria Montessori discovered that experiential learning in this type of classroom led to a deeper understanding of language, mathematics, science, music, social interactions

and much more. Now Montessori method is spread in 220 nations. A well trained teacher in Montessori Method will be able to provide real child centered, activity oriented and life centered education to the children. In Kerala there are around four lakh children going to any kind of pre-school – nursery, anganvadi, kindergarten or Montessori school every year. Such schools may be workingindependently or attached to schools with grade classes. So there is a need of around twenty thousand well trained pre-school teachers. There is a trend in the new generation parents to send their children to English medium kindergarten schools or Montessori schools. But the trained teachers are very less. As the PPTTC students are trained in Malayalam medium they are not preferred in English medium schools.

So the English medium schools are searching for appropriately trained nursery/KG/ Kindergarten teachers with good communication skills. Government schools and aided are also running pre-school classes supported by the PTA. Many of them prefer Montessori trained teachers.Even though there are several private organizations conducting pre-school teacher training certificate courses, the prospective teachers coming out from those institutions are seems to be less skilled in handling children in an internationally approved child education methods. If the SRC Community College can organize a well-planned course with an internationally accepted curriculum it will be a chance for thousands of educated and unemployed women. The trained women can run their own child care centers/ Montessori schools.
