FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK.................
Marangi Mahabidyalaya(Degree) has been carrying a
good performance in higher education sector right from the very
beginning. The college has been trying to provide an education
with global feel, celebrating the fact that each student is differ-
ent, as a person and as a learner. We believe that powerful teach-
ing-learning ocuurs under a shared spirit of respect which cre-
ates a passionate educative experience recognized for its
warmth, energy and excellence. Here people are valued and
can fulfil their potential both as teachers and learners.
We foster a positive spirit and believe in partnership
between students, parents, teachers and support staff striving to create a millieu that sustains excellence.
Our distinction lies in the pursuit of high academic attainment through support,
encouragement, praise and motivation.
I strongly believe that education is a collaborative effort that involves strong and cooperative ad-
ministrators, commited teachers and motivated students. We dedicate ourselves in creating a dynamic
education programme empowering the students in a global perspective.
At first I would like to thank the founders of this institution. Secondly, I thank to the Professors, Office staff,
Governing Body, Students, Guardians and well wishers of the institution by whose continuous efforts made
it present position. As a founder Vice-Principal and later as a Principal I feel that to carry a venture institu-
tion for a period of 24 (twenty- four) years is very crucial for the involvers. In 2013 the College has got
provincialization. Though the College has to fulfill different criteria to make it more excellent it has been
taking steps to fulfill it completely. Hope, the Govt. and the well wishers will made their helping hands
towards the institution.
Profile of Marangi Mahabidyalaya (Degree) :
Marangi Mahabidyalaya (Degree) is a government provincialized college established in the
year of 1990. The college is located in a rural area encompassing by TGL (Tea Garden Labour) ST, SC,
OBC, General and other economically backward people. The college is situated at Purabangla, P.O.
Letekujan, Marangi Mouza under Sarupathar constituency of Golaghat district of Assam. The college has
already passed twenty seven years of its glorious active life with reputation in Degree level (Arts Stream).
There are honours in six subjects in total. Besides, the college has a batch of brilliant academic and office
staff. The college is permanently affiliated to Dibrugarh University and registered under Section-2(F) and
12(B) of the UGC ACT. 1956.

Vision :
To prepare the students to understands, realized and to soul the social vice and obstcles and to
make them feet for contributing to the socio-economic development of the sorrounding areas.
Mission:
* To provide opportunity for quality higher education.
* To facilitate the inculcation of moral, cultural & spiritual values among the youth.
* To encourage the youth to fight against all forms of social evils and superstitions.
* To instill leadership role among the young in order to develop environmental awareness.
Governing Body :
The College has a Governing Body constituted by the Govt. of Assam. The Governing Body frames
strategy for the development of the college and governs as per the Assam College Employees
(Provincialisation) Rules 2010.
Academic Committee :
The academic committee maintains a healthy academic atmosphere in the college. The committee
is also responsible for preparing class routines, academic calendar etc.
Examination Committee :
There is an Examination Committee comprising of teachers from different departments to conduct
internal examination.
Disciplinary Committee and Students’ Grievance Redressal Cell :
The College has a disciplinary committee constituted with the Principal and other four faculty
members to maintain students’ discipline. There is a Grievance Redressal Cell to look into the grievances
of the students.
Anti Ragging Committee:
The college Anti Ragging Committee is consisted with four faculty members where the Principal
is the Chairman. The Committee is always keep deep notice to free the college campus from ragging.
Students’ Union :
The Students’ Union of Marangi Mahabidyalaya(Degree) is the general body of the students and
the membership of it is compulsory. The members of the Union Body are annually elected. The General
Election of the Students’ Union is conducted by an Election Committee constituted with teachers, as per
rules and regulations of Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations.

Excursion & Educational Tour :
Different teaching departments of the college arrange excursion/educational tour every year.
Sports Facilities :
The College has one playground with nominal facilities in football, Volleyball, Badminton etc.
Internal Assessment :
In internal assessment different tools may be employed such as written test, assignments, paper
presentation, Group Discussion, laboratory work, etc. suitable to the courses.
College Canteen :
The College has a well-equipped temporary Canteen which is run by private party under the control
of the college authority.
Library :
The College has a library with minimum facilities. The library has a good stock of text and
reference books to fulfil the need of the students. Necessary megazines, Journals, News paper are also
available in the Library. There is a Library Committee for smooth conduct of the activities of library.
Mentoring :
The college provides mentoring to each and every student by its faculties.
Admission Committee :
An admission committee is constituted by the college authority to conduct entire admission process
following Government reservation policy for the reserved category students such as ST(P), ST(H), SC,
OBC, MOBC etc.
Women Cell :
The Women Cell awares the students about women issues and works for the welfare of women and
of the surrounding areas.
Scholarship and Award :
The College provides all sorts of the State and Central Govt. scholarships such as Na-
tional Merit, State merit, Differntly able, SC/ST, TGL, OBC/MOBC to deserving students.
Besides these, the college also has the following awards :
* Award for All Round Performance.
* Award for the students having the Highest Attendance (Class-wise).
* Award for the Most Disciplined student.
(Here a student will be judged on his/her punctuality, attendance, overall behaviour, promptness in responding
to the college authority, obedience to the institutional rules and regulations etc.)
* Award for the Cleanest Classroom.

College Health & Sanitation Club :
It works for clean and hygiene environment of the college campus as well as the nearby
locality under Swach Bharat Mission.
Academic Aspect :

Three-year (Six Semester) Degree programme in Arts under CBCS of Dibrugarh
University.
Subject Combination:
Subject Combination will be different for students opting different subjects as Honours
or core course. Honours course wise subject Combination attached in a separate sheet.

Eligibility for admission:
A HS passed student from the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, or any recognized
board may apply for admission. However, applicant must secure atleast 45% marks in the subject in which
he or she desires to take honours. There will be relaxation of 5% marks for the reserved categories.
For admission in to the B.A in Economics honours, a candidate should have preferably passed the
Higher Secondary Examnination (10+2) of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council or any equiva-
lent examination with Mathematics as a subject. In case a student of Economics honours, who have not
passed Mathematics in the Higher Secondary level, he/she shall have to opt one Ability Enhancement
Compulsory Course of Mathematics of 2 credit. However, for the time being a student without Math-
ematics at the HS level will also be eligible for Economics honours programme.
Admission Committee :
An Admission Committee is constituted by the college authority to conduct entire admission
process following Government reservation policy for the reserved category students such as
ST(P), ST(H), SC, OBC, MOBC etc. There will also be reservation of 2% seats for students
showing outstanding performance in extra curricular activities.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
How to Apply :
Online Application for admission must be made in prescribed form to be collected from the college
website .
Important Dates:
Issuing of Online forms: From 29th June,2020 to 6th July,2020.
Scrutiny of the forms: 8th July,2020.
10th and 11 July,2020 : Confirmation message of admission will be sent to the applicants through
SMS.
Documents to be uploaded:
(a) Passed Certificate of last Examination
(b) Marksheet of of last Examination
(c) Caste Certificate
Documents to be produced at the time of interview:
The originals of all the documents attached with the application form and the counter foil of the admission
form.)
Selection Procedure:
Candidates are selected in order of merit of the last qualifying examination passed for admission.
While preparing the merit list Reservation System is followed as per Government Rules.
Students seeking admission against reserved quota will have to submit photo copies of relevant
certificate along with their Application Form, otherwise their cases will not be considered.
Identity Card :
The college authority issues Identity Cards for each student immediately after com-
mencement of the classes.
College Uniform :
College Uniform is compulsory. Students not in proper uniform are not allowed entry to the
college.The uniform prescribed for the students are:
For Boys : Black Pants (Formal only) Light Sky Blue Shirt.
For Girls : White Salwar Suit with Sky Blue Dupatta. (Kameez should be knee length).
Black shoes / sandals are common to both boys and girls.
Attendence :
At least 80% attendance is mandatory as per regulation of DU. There is an Attendance
Monitoring Committee which takes measures to check low attendance.6

General Rules of Discipline :
(i) Students involving in ragging, misconduct and in other such
offences will have to face severe punishment.
(ii) Students without uniform are not permitted to attend classes.
(iii) Any kind of indecent behaviour and violation of the rules and
regulations of the college shall be considered as major offence.
(iv) Mobile phone is not allowed in the college campus.

Course Structure of B.A. Honours Programme under CBCS
BA Honours Programme under CBCS consist of following courses :
(a) Core Courses (Honours) : These courses are to be compulsorily studied as a
core requirement for the programme. There will be 14 courses (papers) of the subject which
is chosen as the core subject.
(b) Elective courses : Elective courses shall be chosen by each student from a pool
of courses. This courses may be intra-departmental, i.e. Discipline Specific Elective (DSE)
as well as inter departmental that is Generic Elective(GE).
(c) Ability Enhancement Courses (AEC).: The ability Enhancement Courses shall
be of two kinds “ Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses” and “Skill Enhancement
Courses.” AEC courses are the courses that leads to knowledge enhancement.
Attendance: 80% attandance Compulsory. a Student whose attendence is less than 80%
shall not be permitted for the End Semester Exam.
A student declared as dis-collegiate shall not be allowed to proceed to the next higher
semester. He/she shall need to pursue semester a-fresh in which he/she was declared as dis-
collegiate along with the next fresh batch.

Examination and Evaluation:
(a) Examination and Evaluation shall be done on a continuous basis, atleast three times during
each semester,
(b) There shall be 20% marks for internal assessment and 80% marks for End- Se
mester Examnination in each course during every semester
(c) There shall be no provision for re-evaluation of the answer script of the End-Semester
Examination. However, a candidate may apply for re-scrutiny.
Betterment Examination:
A student shall be entitled to take the “betterment examination” in any two theory courses
of any of the six semesters after passing the six semester examination only once. In this case,
the highar marks secured by the student shall be retained. The candidate shall have to apply for
betterment examination within one year of passing the sixth semester examination.
Results and progression
(a) A candidate shall be declared as passed a course, provided he/she secures.
(i) At least 40% of marks in each course in the End-Semester Examinations.
(ii) At least ‘p’ grade in the 10 point scale combining both the in-semester and End-
semester examination performance.
(iii) There shall be no separate pass mark for Internal Assessment.
A student must clear all his/her semester examinations within Six(6) Years from the date of admisssion to
the First Semester of any Programme irrespective of the number of examinations appeared by the student.
Since the semester system involves continuous assessment, there shall be no scope for a student to
appear as a private candidate in any programme on this system.
Grading system:
The follownig scale of grading system shall be applied to indicate the perfomances of
students in terms of letter grade and grade points as given below. Letter Grade with meaning * GradePoint*
O Outstanding 10 (Marks securing above 90%)
A+ Excellent 9 (Marks securing above 80% - 90%)
A Very Good 8 (Marks securing above 70% -80%)
B+ Good 7 (Marks securing above 60% -70%)
B Above Average 6 (Marks securing above 50% - 60%)PPass 4 (Marks securing above 40% - 50%)
F Fail 0 (Marks securing below 40%)

The Letter Grade B+ and above shall be considered as First Class and letter Grade B
shall be considered as Second Class.
A student is considered to have completed a course successfully and earned the pre-
scribed credits if he/she secures a latter grade other than F (Failed) or Abs (absent/ Incom-
plete.) If a candidate secures F Grade in a course, he/she shall have to re-appear in the course
in the next legitimate chance.
The college gives utmost importance to co-curricular activities of the students so that
they can show their talents to the fullest extent. They are encouraged to participate in various
district, state & inter-college competitions.
