    ADMISSIONS POLICY

The Admissions Number for the school is 30(Revised May 2012)

Admissions to the Reception class will usually be in theSeptember at the beginning of the school year in whichthe child will reach his/her 5th birthday. However, parentswho have been offered a place may, if they wish, defertheir childs entry to school until the child is of compulsoryschool age, as long as the place is taken up within thesame school year. The parents should provide a firmletter of intent to the Headteacher in order that a place isreserved for that child. The child will not be disadvantagedin terms of Admissions Procedures by this.

    (1) If there are less than 30 applicants, all children will beoffered a place, which should be formally accepted by agiven date.

    (2) After this date, any additional children wanting theavailable places will be accepted in order of date ofapplication until the number reaches 30. After this, nameswill be placed on a waiting list, with no guarantee of a placeunless one of the already accepted places becomes available.

    (3) Should there be a greater demand for places than the 30

available the following priorities for admission will apply:

Category 1Children in Public CareThis includes any looked after child and any child whowas previously looked after but immediately after beinglooked after became subject to an adoption, residences orspecial guardianship order.

Category 2Children who have a sibling including half brother/sister,foster brother/sister, children living at the same addressand considered to be part of the same family unit currently

attending the school and who will still be there at the startof the academic year in which the child takes up his/herplace.

Category 3Children of parents who are members of a ChristianChurch. Admission will be based on the following threetier system:

3a At the heart of the Church (a regular worshipper whoattends Church once a week or more).

3b Attached to the Church (someone who attends

Church fairly frequently not less than twice a month)3c Occasional worshipper (e.g. attends Church not less

    than once a month)

Parents will be required to make an appointment fora joint meeting with their vicar, priest, minister or pastorconfirming which category of church membership that theybelong to. Evidence for this will be submitted on a faithreference form.

Category 4Other Children:In the event of over subscription in the number ofapplications made under any of the categories above thenthe admissions committee will offer places first to childrenliving nearest to the school measured by the shortestwalking distance from the childs home to the nearest

school gate using the methodology of measurementadopted by the Local Authority.EvidenceIn the event that the school is oversubscribed and Churchattendance is the criterion to be applied applicants mustsubmit a letter from their vicar, priest, minister or pastorconfirming that the criterion is satisfied.

Twins & TripletsWhere there are twins or triplets wanting admissionsand there is only a single place left within the admission

number, then the governing body will exercise as muchflexibility as possible with the requirements of infant classsizes. In exceptional circumstances we are now able tooffer places for both twins and all triplets, even when thismeans breaching infant class size limits. This may also applyto siblings who are in the same year group.

Armed ForcesChildren of armed forces personnel may be admitted underan excepted pupil category even if it takes the infantclass over the 30 child legal limit.

Older ChildrenParents wanting their child to be accepted into the schoolin any year other than Reception will be offered a place inaccordance with Schools in year admissions arrangementsif there are places available in that year group. (Infant classsize legal limit 30)

    Equality Duty

The Governors are aware of their duty to monitor equality.Adverse impact is probable or certain for particular groupsbut the policy as a whole can be justified because as avoluntary aided church school the Governors can admit

    using faith criteria.
