TTTTThe New Life Biblical Seminary, as you see through the

pages of this prospectus, is the outcome of God’s faithfulness

to our parents. It was founded in 1993 as an offshoot of the

vision and burden of me and my wife for the land of India. As

a fulfillment of the Great divine Commission, God in His

abundant mercy has enabled us to launch this institution for

the purpose of training young ones who have a definite call

for the Lord’s work and an aspiration to study the Word of

God. The major thrust of our mission comes from the Biblical

vision of theological learning as it is found in II Tim. 2:15. It

says: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one

approved by Him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed,

rightly explaining the word of truth” (NRSV). It is, thus, A

Mission with a Vision which is precisely what we hold on as

our motto.

We provide a family atmosphere conducive for learning,

in which dialogue, discussion, interaction, devotion and

disciplining play important roles. Our college is blessed with a

beautiful campus and a group of well-trained, dedicated,

anointed and experienced faculty. Moreover, our studies are

mission oriented, Christo-centric, charismatic, and society-

bound. We are also part of the wider spectrum of ministries

denominational institution, we welcome students from all over

India and abroad irrespective of the denominational and

ecclesiastical confessions. It is our earnest prayer that the

TTTTThe New Life Biblical Seminary is a premiere

theological institution in India standing both for spiritual and

academic excellence for an effective mission. It is a post-graduate

theological academy working under ATA and serving as a

catalyst for the holistic Christian mission in India for more than

two decades. We are always longing and working for the

enhancement of vision and mission of every one to fulfil the

Great Commission as envisaged in our motto: 'Mission with a

Vision'.

The theological education is the integral prerequisite

of the Christian mission. The two prime pragmatic venues of

every theological instruction are the Church and Society: micro

and macro arenas. The recipients of the theological instruction

must be equipped thoroughly to address and respond the mani-

fold challenges more meaningfully and relevantly for missionize

and theologize in our given context. In fact, the qualitative and

quantitative theological education is the vital need of the hour.

All the theological training institutions/systems trace

back to the very prototype of the academy of Jesus: one Master

with the 12 disciples/apostles. The very nature and function of

every theological institution can be summed up in two progres-

sions: centrifugal and centripetal process. The students from

different parts of the nation are coming to the theological acad-

emy and going back to the nation as disciples. The central pro-

cess behind this disciple-making endeavour within the semi-

naries can be further portrays alphanumerically into three pro-

cesses: information, formation and transformation. The last seg-

ment of this cluster distinguishes theological instruction from

the secular education.

The Christian mission is not simply an endeavour of

propagation of faith and conversion of souls but it portents the

holistic mission targeted with the body, soul and spirit of entire

humanity. The Nazareth Manifesto (Lk. 4:18-19) and the Great

Commission (Matt.28:18-20) are depicting the scopes of Chris-

tian mission. In fact, one needs an integral theological training

as well as great vision to incarnate this in our given context.

The New Life Biblical Seminary has been striving as a fulcrum

to make the meaning to its theory and praxis for the last 24 years

and further would like to pursue so until His second coming!

Hence, we are anticipating for the advent of committed and

dedicated persons to commence or continue their sound theo-

logical journey.

New Life Biblical Seminary, ever since its inception,

stands for imparting the knowledge of the word God and training

young people for ministerial vocation. The seminary is the

progeny of the long-cherished dream of Late Pastor C. K.

Daniel, one of the pioneers of Pentecostal Movement in the

southern part of Kerala and the former president of Indian

Pentecostal Church of God in India. As a renowned Bible

teacher and preacher, it was his unquenching thirst to establish

a theological institution in the southernmost part of Kerala.

His vision was realized in 1993 when his younger son

Rev. Johnson Daniel and his family decided to establish a

theological institution by the name ‘New Life Bible Centre’ at

Cheruvakkal, Kollam. The beginning was so small with just 16

students and 5 faculty. However, as days passed by, the Lord

has blessed this humble venture and expanded its horizon to

be a recognized seminary in 2001. Today the seminary has the

strength of more than 140 students and 40 staff. We offer

different theological and ministry oriented courses both in

English and Malayalam.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF THENEW LIFE BIBLICAL SEMINARY

New Life Biblical Seminary isthe theological wing of the

Beersheba International New Life

Ministries (BINLM) founded in 1987in Houston, USA. In 1993 INLM felt

the need for a theological institute

to train young people for ministry inthe Indian sub-continent, and thus

established the New Life Biblical

Seminary (then known as New LifeBible Centre). The seminary was the

long cherished dream of Late Pastor

C. K. Daniel, one of the pioneers ofPentecostal Movement in the

southernmost part of Kerala and the

former president of Indian PentecostalChurch of God in India.

His vision was realized through the effort of Rev. Dr. Johnson Daniel(s/o Pastor C. K. Daniel) and family. The foundation stone for the Centre was

laid by Pastor. E. C. George and the inauguration of the Seminary was held on

the 13th of March, 1993. The center was first known as New Life Bible Centre. The first batch of the center began on the 25th of April, 1993 with only 16

students and 5 teachers. Initially, we had just Diploma in Theology (Dip.Th)

Course. The second batch began in March 1994 and the first graduation servicewas held in December 1994. In 1995 New Life Bible Centre was accredited by

the I. P. C. Council. New Life Bible Centre was upgraded to be New Life Biblical

Seminary in 2001.

Resolved to give qualitative education and accredited degrees, the NLBSembarked on an affiliation with the well-known accrediting agency, the Asia

Theological Association (ATA). In 1998 our B. Th. Program was accredited by

ATA. The M.Div. program started in 2002 was accredited by ATA in 2003. In2005 we started our M. Div. Distance Education program and this was accredited

by ATA in the next year. We scaled a new peak with the inception of the M.Th

program in 2008 and it was accredited by ATA in the subsequent year. Our firstbatch of M.Th passed out of this seminary in 2009.

During these years the seminary undertook quite a number of majorconstruction projects such as library building, auditorium, dormitory, faculty

quarters and so on. By the grace of God these projects were completed in due

time with the assistance of our prayer partners and well-wishers.

Periodic increase in the number of Faculty and staff has been the major

feature of the seminary. Similarly, the library development has been the majorimpetus in the overall expansion of the seminary. Over the years students

from elsewhere in India and abroad having different cultural and linguisticbackgrounds have studied in the seminary. Till now over 1400 of our graduates

serve the Lord and humanity around the globe. Today the seminary has the

strength of more than 140 students and 40 staff. The NLBS also runs twomore training centers in UAE and Chandigarh to cater the need of native

missionaries.

Puthujeevan (New Life) the official college year book has been published

in 1994. It gives a glimpse of the work and ministry of NLBS over the years.

Year 2011 witnessed an epoch in the annals of NLBS when it began a

theological journal, viz, New Life Theological Journal. It is a platform to

interact and interpret issues facing the world from a Christian ethical-theological perspective. Today the seminary stands on the cross road of a

new era and greater heights.

Over the years BINLM, the parent body of NLBS, has been involved in

various philanthropic and social activities including educational help to needy

students, mass marriages of girls from economically poor background andfinancial aid for the construction of shelters to the needy.

Theological Journey ofNLBS is Crossing theJubilant Boarders of SilverJubilee with the Motto of‘Mission with a Vision’.

New Life Biblical Seminary is Celebrating its25th year of God’s Faithfulness (1993-2017)

PHILOSOPHY AND PURPOSENew Life Biblical Seminary has both graduate and post graduate courses

with Pentecostal persuasion. At the same it recognizes the different

denominations and confessions of the Christian Church.

NLBS community recognizes that everyone is elected to participate in

God’s mission as the Bible acknowledges (Psalms 108:3; Romans 1:14-16).

Therefore, the focus of our conviction is stated in a short dictum: Missionwith a Vision.

NLBS envisions the mission of the Church both inside and outside witha holistic outlook. This mission is seen in a multi-dimensional way which

recognizes the importance of the four-fold functions of the church such as:

fellowship, teaching, witnessing and serving. These are incorporated in thestatement: Mission with a Vision. The curriculum of NLBS reflects this vision

and thus molds men and women in the life pattern of Christ.

GENERAL INFORMATION

I. Campus LifeLife in NLBS Campus holds high significance as it counts so much to the

ministerial and character formation of the students. A student is expected to

make every attempt to live in harmony with one another and to maintain a

healthy interpersonal relationship. Living together as a community and strivingtogether for a common goal is our ultimate priority. Cultural meets and social

evenings facilitate in fostering love and harmony in the community life of the

campus. Cleanliness and hygiene are vital for NLBS community. Theconstruction of the buildings in rectangular shape provides a beautiful space

right at the centre of the campus where everyone can come together to havefun and fellowship. Students are provided with basic facilities such as

dormitory, mess, sports and recreational resources. The trees with its branches

hovering over the ground and seating facilities around it provide a wonderfulplace to cultivate the fellowship and interpersonal relationship. Life in the

campus could easily be understood in four important levels.

1. Spiritual LifeThere are bounteous opportunities provided to the students to maintain

a well-balanced spiritual life. The spiritual life of a student is nurtured in sevenphases: morning and evening devotions, main chapels, spiritual emphasis

days, chain prayers, fasting prayers, whole-night prayers and church exposures.

On Sunday mornings most of the students will be assigned to different localcongregations and the rest meet at the chapel for service. The spiritual activities

are designed to set in a well-disciplined spiritual fabric for the student.

Page 25: Prospectus 2017 Ajikumar final - NLBSlogical journey. In His Service, Rev. Dr. Rajeevan M. Thomas Principal, NLBS 9 NLBS PROSPECTUS New Life Biblical Seminary, ever since its inception,

The common devotion times are compulsorily maintained in the morning

and in the evening. The day starts with the morning devotion from 5:30 to 6:00

AM. All the students come to the chapel and spend time for prayer and personalmeditation. The devotions are held separately for both English and Malayalam

medium students. The students themselves prepare a thought for the day,

which becomes the impetus to live through the day. Apart from the commondevotions the students are encouraged for personal piety. Wednesday evenings

are set apart for praise and worship and song practice. The campus provides

the students magnificent atmosphere to maintain the same.

The student body is divided into different Tutorial Groups under faculty

members to nurture them in every aspect of their lives. The Tutorial Groupsfacilitate the students for a holistic spiritual formation which includes personal,

inter-personal, academic, and practical aspects of life.

2. Academic LifeThe academic schedule is strictly maintained with utmost importance in

our campus. Class room exercise is the primary mode of teaching. It ismandatory for the students to ensure adequate class attendance to be qualified

for writing the exam. We have well-maintained class rooms. Four hours of

classes are scheduled for each day. The classes start at 8:30 AM and goes upto 1:30 PM.

a) Study Time

Students have to strictly observe the study hours in the campus. The

usual study hours are in the morning and in the evening. The morningtiming is from 6:30 AM to 7:20 AM and the evening is from 8:00 PM

to 10:30 PM. This is apart from the normal class hours in the morning

and the library hours in the afternoon. During the morning studyhours the students come to their respective class rooms and spend it

meaningfully. Rest of the study time is spent in the Library.

with excellent opportunities to facilitate the maximum use of library.NLBS gives substantial care for the development and maintenance of

library. We have a library with a collection of over 30,000 volumes

and more than 30 national and international theological journals inaddition to the secular magazines/weeklies. The library uses

computerized Dewey Decimal cataloguing system. Our library

maintains both Malayalam and English sections separately to assistthe students of both the medium in their academic endeavor. Computer

and internet facilities are made available the students whenever they

are need of. We are also in the process of acquiring AmericanTheological Library Association Serials (ATLA Serials online

database). The NLBS is proud of having a group of well-qualified and

experienced library staff.

3. Social LifeNLBS family consists of people from various cultures and backgrounds

which make the life in the campus very much exciting. Students from elsewhere

in India and abroad having diverse traditions, languages, customs and practices

are assimilated unto our community with a common thrust and goal. Thisvariety and diversity make the life in the campus a jubilant one. The students

usually share moments of joy and happiness with one another.

Occasionally, an evening is set apart for the community to come together

for fellowship and fun. Here students are availed opportunities to display their

talents through various art forms. At this juncture, many of the theologicalissues debated in the class rooms are given visual portrayal by the students.

Amidst hectic academic pressure and tension the students find it a time to

relax, rejoice and renew their spirit and relationship. Social Evenings mostoften are followed by fellowship meals. At times the students are given ample

opportunity to watch mission based and socially relevant movies and

documentaries.

Annually the SSF organizes a Food-Fest and an Inter-Seminary game.It strives for an inter-seminary theological, ministerial interaction and fellowship.

their talents and interests. Weekend outreach programs are of primaryimportance. ‘Liberated to Liberate’ is the motto of the Department of PracticalTraining. Church planting, community services, hospital visits, open-airmeetings, mini conventions, house visit, film shows, etc., are the importantscenarios for practical involvement.

During the weekends the students are encouraged to go in small groupsand visit vicinities of different churches. Students here get enough opportunityto involve in Sunday Schools and church assistance in the nearby churches. This enriches the students in the ministerial formation. NLBS’ alumni havebeen instrumental in establishing numerous churches.
