I am proud to be Headteacher of Prospect School for very many reasons – most of all because we are a community in which tolerance, diversity and inclusion are our most important values and underpin everything we do. The horrific events that occurred in Minneapolis on May 25th were deeply shocking for all of us.
It is clear that as a school community we need to go beyond the notion of ‘equality’. All our students and families matter, but we must recognise that equality does not necessarily bring fairness. Rather, we need to look first at ‘equity’, by identifying and addressing inequality through specifically

focusing on those who experience it. We need a systemic change to ensure that we have a just system in which we offer equal access to both resources and opportunities. This is what we endeavour to do at Prospect School. I want all our community to know that, at Prospect School, Black Lives Matter.David Littlemore,

Mrs Vacy-AshBeen a strange two weeks , I’ve spoken to loads of North
House students, some are enjoying the lockdown, others
just want to come back in and all are missing their friends
– I’m missing the routine of coming in to school and
having my days all planned out for me and of course I’m
missing all of you.
Have been doing a bit of clearing out and have found
some funny photos of me when I was younger.
I believe this was a look from the 1980s! Not too sure
about the hair all wrapped up in a ribbon!
And then a cute one of my
family way back when the
kids were little.
Buddy my dog says that his life is far more exciting than
mine. He even went into school during lockdown to make
sure all the humans were social distancing.
Have a wonderful week and catch up with you soon.
Mrs Vacy-Ash, Deputy Head of North House
MRS EVANSHello East,
Wow another week of home schooling and things are
starting to change for us all again with lots more Live
lessons. This is a huge challenge for many of your teachers
(especially if they’re like me) so please do turn up to the
Live lessons, we need encouragement too!! You’ll benefit
so much more than doing it by yourself.
Hope you all had a good ‘holiday’ (at least had a break
from work) and have started to benefit a little from our
extra ‘freedom’. I was able to go and see my mum for the
first time on the weekend and had a very weird lunch
with her sat at different ends of the garden!
I have continued with my exercise taking advantage of
being able to go a little further. I’m still running & biking
from home but extending those miles. Completed a few
60mile bike rides exploring some different areas. The
miles seem a little less painful when there are new views
to see. That’s one of my challenges when deciding where
to go… speaking of which, my husband’s got too much
time on his hands – he’s planning our ‘holiday’ for next
year – biking from Land’s End to John O’Groats!! Eeek!
I had entered the Reading Half Marathon back in January
and was doing well increasing my training miles. I haven’t
run a race for a while so it was a bit disappointing to have
to put that on hold. I’ve kept up my running but not
completed any long runs until this week when I found
myself knocking out 18miles. It was a bit tough and legs
have been a little stiff for a couple of days but felt good
after and very pleased with myself – it’s always good to
push yourself, maybe I’ll start thinking of a marathon!
My virtual bling
MRS EVANS CONTINUED
In comparison I also entered another virtual race, this time
it was a ‘fastest mile’ challenge. Now this was painful in a
totally different way but I surprised myself and now have
a target to try and beat next time. I wouldn’t have done
this normally because it hurts to run flat out & give it
everything you’ve got, as I’m sure you know, sometimes
you just need that extra little incentive and a little nudge
in the right direction. Have you pushed yourself? Tried
something new? Worked really hard on something?
Anyone completed the House Fitness challenge? How far
did you go? Please let us know.
Just a thought to take on board this week. We can look
at ‘freedom’ in many different ways. I hope the last few
months have made you appreciate the things that we are
able to do everyday. With the news over the last week
about protests and racism we should also think about
how we live together and treat everyone in our
community. Make the most of your opportunities,
embrace our cultural differences and ‘Show racism the
red card’. https://www.theredcard.org/
So, look after yourself, keep
yourselves fit and healthy
and it would be great to
hear from you. When things
are chaotic, lively and oh so
busy, we often wish for
those golden moments
where everything goes quiet
and we have a bit of calm
but now we have it we do
miss you, your chatter and
the hustle & bustle!
Take care
Mrs Evans, Deputy Head
of East House
Top-left: Homemade lollies. Middle-left: This unhappy little guy fell out of his nest onto the patio. Bottom-left: Tegwyn keeping an eye on the neighbours.
Mr PARRYWell here we all are again! And already
knee deep into the last term of the year!
How are things with all of you? I think if
ever there was a phrase that most suited
my experience in lockdown, it has been
‘never a dull moment’. There’s always tons
of things to do! Arranging work and
checking in on students, chatting to fellow
members of staff, teaching our children
and attempting to do any DIY job I can
around the house (so far, not very
successful, I must be honest). Oh, and
excessive vacuuming!
During our time at home we have become
keen bird watchers. During lockdown it
has become far more apparent what type
of birds are frequenting our garden. We
have installed some bird feeders and my
wife has even made bird food. I won’t say
too much more on that subject other than
the recommended recipe for birds is a
mixture of lard and dried worms!
There have been a lot of things that have
happened in the last few weeks and
months, both here in the UK and across
the world and I suppose at times it can be
quite a lot to take in. Sometimes it is
worth keeping ourselves a bit balanced
from all of it as much as we can. I think
one way to help this is to focus on the
little things to help us keep perspective.
We have a jar that we keep on a shelf in
our kitchen. It has some little bits of paper
and a pen next to it. Whenever anyone in
the family has an idea or something they
would like to do after lockdown is over,
they write it down, fold it up and put it in
the jar. So far there have been ideas such
as ‘Visit Disneyland’ or ‘Go to Legoland’
...and these are just MY suggestions! But
joking aside, it has been a nice idea to
think of little things that we can all look
forward to doing when the time is right.
If you need to talk about anything or
just clarify something you are not sure
of, please do remember to send either
me or Mr. Gerrard an email.
Hang on, was that a fledgling blackbird in
those bushes again? Right then!- hand me
the dried worms please...
Take care and stay safe,
Mr Parry,
Deputy Head of South House
MISS JELLEY
Hello West House,
I hope you are all keeping well and staying safe. I can’t
quite believe it is now June and we only have a month
left ‘in school’! Keep up the hard work attending your
online lessons and keep your brains ticking over.
This week the news hasn’t been very pleasant but I have
been using music to keep myself positive. I think I have
been playing my saxophone more during lockdown than
I have in the last 5 years. But I am noticing that I am
improving with the more practice I do.
Last weekend I met some friends in the local park,
socially distanced of course. It was nice to see them
again and talk about how we are all feeling during this
uncertain time. It is very important to talk about how
you feel, rather than store it all inside. I certainly felt a lot
better after talking!
Despite the weather not being as nice this week I have
still managed to get out and go for a few walks. I’ve
been keeping on top of my 3 workouts a week too! My
favourite artists to listen to whilst exercising are Stormzy,
Drake and Kanye West.
If you have any worries or concerns don’t forget you can
contact Ms Smith or me!
Keep safe and keep healthy,
Miss Jelley

‘A door is…’ poetry Our Year 7s and 8s produced some
amazing poems about doors in their

We are so proud of all your efforts,
creativity, ideas, kindness, and willingness

A door is a world of possibilities,
Where anything can be on the other side,
Sometimes the monster will try and hide,
They will go through the wide open door,
Sometimes you will fall through a hole,
Going through that door will lead to a passage
no-one has been before,
Just think of it,
A world of open opportunities waiting at the
push of the handle,
From a mysterious light going to the dark night,
Sometimes you won’t come out.
Or you can but don’t want to as the magic is
memorisable, unable to go you sit away for the
way you think
A door is anything....

A DOOR IS...A door is an imaginary portal to a different world.
It can be closed forcefully.
Or opened peacefully.
A door can be filled with excitement.
It can also be filled with hate or dread
these are most likely defined by your choices
A door is a way of safety.
It can be turned safe with a lock to make an
unstoppable force.
After that it turns into a barrier.
A door can help you find a certain place.
Or get you lost if there are too many.
It has a way of helping and a way of disobeying.
A door can be used to make safety.
Secure a dangerous person from the world.
Or sometimes maybe trap an innocent one.
A door can lead to mysterious places.
It could be a gateway to hell.
Or lead to a stairway for heaven.
A door is a way to protect.
You protect yourself from danger.
Or the item someone wants to take.
A door can protect in bad ways.
It can help a wrong cause.
Or bring an imaginary world to a halt.
Jack Morgan
I opened the magical door,
And saw a wonderful land.
Coloured mountains,
Flying beasts and
A wonderful environment.
Witches laughing, dragons roaring,
Giants roaming the land.

MORE A door is...… PoemsA door is unknowing, full of secrets
Not knowing what’s behind it ,
A door is a mystery also an adventure to be set free.
A door is an escape when the world becomes too
much for me ,
Leading me into a new world a life .
Even though it’s an object it’s my protection .
Yusiah B
A door is a mystery
You never know what lies behind
It could show your history
And help you along your way

A door is protection,
a door is isolation,
a door is a prevention,
a door is a divider of a section.
A door does the opposite of subjection,
a door keeps at bay infection,
a door can perform rejection,
a door can also perform ejection.
A door is interjection,
a door is a solid projection,
a door can be over protection,
a door is always an exception.

A door is...
Doors are ugly and beautiful.
They can start and end lives.
They can lock you up and
set you free.
Doors open and close.
They want to pull you in and push you out.
Doors could help or abandon you.
Most of all doors are different;
They hold possibility or none at all.
They are nowhere and everywhere.
Doors hurt you and help you.
They kill and save you.
Doors are a contradiction.

A door is..
A safe or dangerous place,
Is mysterious and overwhelming,
You want to see what’s behind it,
It’s tempting just to turn the door handle
if it has one,
It’s an extremely unique door.

A door is an opening to another world
A door holds secrets that have twirled
Behind the door is a mystery
And could show your history
It may look colourful
It may be frightening
Anything can hit you
Like a struck of lightning
A door is magical
But stay tactical
A door can change your lifetime
Don’t start a crime

The grey door,

YEAR 8 Poems BASED AROUND 'GOING THROUGH A DOOR'
Go on,
Open the red door,
It may not be what you think!
It could be fire, fury and conflict,
Or it could be positive?
The one of two colours of our English flag,
The one of three colours of our Union Jack.
Through this door,
Patriotism hits you right in the face.
Go on,
Don’t be shy,
Open the door.

Go and open the door
even if you know not what lays ahead
you might see a face
or just a memory
Go and open the door
Maybe there is a palace or a mansion
or an alley full of litter
Maybe the sun is shining bright to show you
a clear path
Or he hides behind the shadows
and leaves you in a dark labyrinth
Go and open the door
Maybe you’ll see a pallid face, sweat trickling
down it
It’s body crouched down, looking terrified
Or maybe you’ll see people you love
Go and open the door
Maybe you’ll see yourself in the Mirror of Erised
covered in gold and riches
Or surrounded by the people you love, and the
people you lost
