IntroductionIn late August fieldwork consisting of prospecting and outcrop sampling was completed on the
Beatty township L - 1218619.
Claim Data:
The property is owned by the Placer Dome, Kinross Gold Joint Venture . St. Andrew Goldfield undertook the field program as agent for the joint venture. The property is composed of one single unit claim of 16 hectares (40 acres). The ground is located in Beatty township 15 kilometers east-northeast of Matheson, Ontario centered in Zone 17 UTM 0551429E/5378681N within the Lardner Lake Mining Division. The claim data is as follows: (Figure 1):
L-1218619 l unit SE VA of N Vt Lot 3 Con 2 Anniversary Date September 4, 2003
Road access to the property is good, cross the Black river at Matheson and proceed east down Highway 101 some 11 kilometers, to old power line 4x4 trail (quad road) north of highway. Proceed along trail past the Ste wart-Abate property to Salve Creek (1.5 km), from the creek to the south boundary of claim, a further 1.5 kilometers, additional quad roads and recent logging make quad access nearly possible all the way to the claim.
The property is composed of spruce hills and outcrop ridges, separated by valley swamps and wet tag alder areas, the creek floodplain to the south is underlain by clay and covered by poplar forest, in part recently logged, the ground to the east is lower, wetter and includes large areas of peat bog . The topography varies from 150 to 300 meter elevation relief.
Regional Geology:
The property is in the Timmins-Kirkland Lake portion of the Southwestern Abitibi Greenstone Belt, the Archean rocks form a thick succession of predominately mafic volcanics with lesser sedimentary and felsic volcanic units scattered throughout. The succession forms a broad, easterly plunging synclinorium stretching from the Timmins area eastward to the Noranda area of Quebec.
A number of major brittle to ductile deformation zones transgress these supracrustal rocks with the Porcupine-Destor Fault Zone (PDZF) or "Break" being the most significant. Gold deposits are commomly localized within and close to the PDFZ along its 125 mile length from Timmins through the Matheson area and eastward beyond the Destor area of Quebec.
The 1947 Beatty township ODM geology map show a large amount of outcrop exposure on the property. The metasediments are composed of greywacke, quartzite, argillite and shale, the mafic volcanics on the property are composed of andesite, basalt, pillowed lavas, variolitic and sperulitic flows, fragmentals and flow top breccia. Along the contact between the sediments and volcanics a large area of quartz and feldspar porphyry is exposed and crosscutting all these units is a much younger, wide zone of northeast trending diabase. On the claim and the surrounding outcrops carbonate and sericite alteration of these rock units was mapped. The contact between the sediments and the volcanics is now considered the Pipestone Fault, another major deformation zone hosting gold deposits that parallel the Porcupine-Destor Fault.
Previous work in the area is mainly reported on the Pat Gold property contigous with the joint venture claim. Exploration in the 1940 consists of pits, trenches and diamond drilling to the north and east of claim L1218619. In 1996 Kinross drilled one hole 1.6 km east of the claim that returned 1.62 g/t gold over 3.1 meters in altered variolitic volcanics, almost the entire drill hole some 150 meters consisted of variable silicified, and carbonatized altered mafic volcanics.

Prospecting:
One day was spent prospecting the claim and collecting outcrop samples for gold, basemetal and whole rock analysis to determine if any alteration patterns could be determined in surface outcrop and any mineralized trends defined (Figure2). A Garmin OPS unit was used to outline the traverse route and tie-in the samples, nine samples were collected (49151- 49159). Their locations and outcrop patterns are plotted on Figure 2. In addition to the sample collection and rock descriptions, at eight out of the nine outcrop sites magnetic susceptibility (Appendix 2) reading were recorded by a KT-9 Kappameter. The KT-9 measures the true magnetic susceptibility (O.Olx 10-3 to 999 x 10-3, SI Units) as opposed to other units that measure apparent susceptibility.
The sample descriptions are as follows:49151 light green, ID-20% quartz phyric 2-3mm, euhdral to subhedral phenocrysts, 59fc l-2mm pyroxene
crystals, matrix weak sericite, weathered surface rusty Fe-carbonate
49152 light gray, quartz porphyry, Fe-carbonatized
49153 light gray, quartz porphyry, weakly carbonatized
49154 light gray, finer grained quartz porphyry, matrix weakly sericitic
49155 8-10 cm quartz veins, chlorite clots, Fe-carbonatized, rusty surface
49156 light gray, quartz porphyry, lG-20% euhedral quartz phenocrysts 2-3mm, S-10% pyroxene, fine grained matrix, 2-3 9fc pyrite
49157 light gray sheared quartz porphyry, weakly sericitic, chloritic clots, 2-3*7c disseminated pyrite
49158 dark black, very fine grained diabase, trace disseminated euhedral pyrite (5-7mm) crystals
49159 dark green to black, fine grained sheared mafic volcanic
ConclusionThe gold values for the rock samples range from nil to 10 ppb, and were assayed by Swastika
Laboratories Ltd. Additional precious, base metal values and whole rock samples are pending and will be forwarded as soon as analyses have been received from the lab.
