the development of participants in a

specific functional area.

Foundational to ProServ's products and services is the concept of customisation. ProServ believes that the most effective

training and consulting solutions and tools begin with understanding the needs of the client and the people who will be

influenced by the products and services offered. With this in mind, we have a full-time team of material developers who

have a wealth of experience in designing outcomes based training materials.

ProServ South Africa Training Services is a CATHSSETA accredited provider of skills development services, operating

mainly in the Tourism and Hospitality industry. Our programmes range from vocational skills training in all functional areas

of the Tourism and Hospitality industry to supervisory and management development programmes applicable to a wider

range of industries. Programmes are run both as short courses and 12-month certificate programmes.

A common misunderstanding is that learnerships can only be implemented with SETA funding and, although the SETA

at times makes funding available for the implementation of learnerships including stipends for unemployed learners, there

are other incentives available.

SARS allows for a tax deduction of R 30,000 in the year of registration of a learner and R 30,000 in the year of

completion of the learnership, which adds up to a total tax deduction of R 60,000 per completed learnership. This This This This

Learnerships contribute to the Skills Development component of the Tourism BEE-charter which stipulates that at least

5% of Black employees should be registered for learnerships or similar programmes. Furthermore, learnerships will

support the absorption of 10% of new Black recruits as a total of all new recruits, as indicated in the Socio-

economic criteria of the charter.

One of the main focus areas of skills development for organisations, often in line with meeting BBBEE-objectives, is the

development of current and future leadership. In this regard, ProServ South Africa has developed a model with various

subjects for Supervisory and Management development initiatives within your organisation.

These models can still run over a 12-month period, even though they do not necessarily form part of the National

Certificate in Management learnership programme. We feel that the models of these programmes should be aligned to

the needs of the participants and the organisation and therefore different modules will be applicable and suitable for

different organisations.

Some of the topics that ProServ South Africa is currently running as part as internal supervisory and management

development programmes:

Introduction to supervising Being a leader and motivating a team

Introduction to management Employee wellness

Administration skills Maintaining quality

ProServ South Africa has a wide variety of training materials as part of

learnership and skills programmes that are of interest to clients when

clustered into smaller modules. As such, ProServ South Africa will

develop a menu of short courses that could be offered either to individ-

ual organisations or a combination of organisations, depending on group

sizes. These short courses are trained over the course of a half to two

days and do not lead to SETA certification.

ProServ South Africa provides training and other forms of

capacity building to different communities within South Africa

and in neighbouring countries. The programme builds on a

governance approach that addresses underlying causes of

poverty by empowering people through knowledge, realisation

of rights, sustainable management of natural resources and

promotion of sustainable livelihoods.

Many communities are not aware of the interdependence of

biodiversity and sustainable human development and that

unsustainable land use threatens biodiversity. The Community

Conservation Management Programme's role is to ensure that

communities are aware of the important role conservation can

play in the development of sustainable source of revenue. The

direct interest which neighbouring communities have in the man-

agement of protected areas is facilitated by this programme.

ProServ South Africa has offered eLearning programmes using an IT-platform under license, for the past five years. With

the increasing use of computer-based training, the growth of bandwidth and the call for increased cost-effectiveness of

training, ProServ South Africa will look at developing a range of generic training modules that can be offered to

corporate clients at an affordable price.

Furthermore, knowledge components of existing learning programmes will be offered via an eLearning approach, thereby

reducing the contact time for the learner and effectively the time required away from the workplace.

ProServ’s team of writers are tasked with developing materials which are interesting, relevant, creative and customised to

meet the individual client’s needs. While many programmes have outcomes dictated by unit standard and qualifications,

ProServ prides itself in creating programmes and materials which are relevant to individual organisations and their learners.

Our assessment tools make use of activities which are based on the learners’ experience in his or her current and previous

workplaces, which ensures that learning outside of the classroom is taken into account and valued.
