Don Bosco College, Maram, is a minority Catholic Educational Institution established and administered by the Salesians of Don Bosco, of Dimapur Province, a Religious order of the Catholic Church.

Don Bosco is a world-renowned educator of youth. His system of education known as the Preventive System of Education is based on reason, religion and loving-kindness. It recognises the vast potentialities latent in one’s faculties of mind, heart and body, and it tries to bring out and develop them in a balanced manner. It also takes into account the social and economic dimensions of life. It places before the staff, students and parents the high ideals of humanism and service towards which they are continually invited to strive.

The College is located in a spacious campus about 20 kms away from the town of Senapati on Kohima – Imphal NH 39. The college is well linked with transport vehicles that ply between Mao and Senapati. DBCMaram is located at 250 24’ 27-57” N and 940 05’ 44-93”E. The elevation of the place from the sea level is 1399 meters.

The Salesian Province of Dimapur, one of the biggest educational agencies in North East India, actively involved in the field of education right from its inception is rich in expertise and experience. It has over 45 professionally run educational institutions from Kindergarten to Degree Colleges. The College is affiliated to Manipur University (MU) and is accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) with B grade with a CGPA of 2.49 in 2009.

Don Bosco College, Maram follows Semester system under Manipur University (MU). A semester lasts nearly six months. At the end of the semester, the selected students have to appear for a University Examination. One of the elective subjects will be the honours paper in the third year, namely V and VI semesters. The choice of the honours paper will depend on the over all performance during the 1,2 and 3 semesters of MU Exam and in the 4th Selection Exam conducted by the College.

ADMISSION PROCEDURES

18, Friday 22, Monday 25, Friday 29 June 2012, from 9.30 am to 01.30 pm. The candidate has to come accompanied by parent/guardian along with duly filled in Application Form and his/her self attested mark sheet and original mark sheet. Parent’s / Guardian’ Passport size photo is also required. Without proper parent / Guardian admission will not be done on the same day.

Admission will be closed when sufficient number of students is admitted.

The candidates should be ready to undergo medical test by a doctor, as and when directed by the Principal.

Limited College Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls. However, there are a few private hostels in and around the college.

FEES

EXAMINATIONS

DISCIPLINE

The institution will conduct weekly tests, assignments and term examinations during the academic session. Attendance during tests and examinations is compulsory. The Council and Manipur University conduct exams at the end of every academic year / Semester. Selection for the Council / University Examinations will be determined on the basis of the student’s total record of performance in the above tests and minimum of 90% attendance and good performance in the selection examination. A student who fails or absents in a selection examination will be debarred from appearing the University / Council Examination. The Principal’s decision in this regard will be final and binding.

Those who are admitted to the College should feel proud to be a member of the College. The future of the College depends very much on the discipline, general behaviour and performance of the students themselves.

Students must have all the required textbooks soon after admission to the College. Every student must have an identity card, which will be available from the College Office. Students’ Handbooks are issued to students at the beginning of every academic year. It contains all the relevant information and guidelines concerning the academic matters.

White Shirt, Navy Blue Trousers / Midi, Black Shoes, Black Socks, Black Belt, Striped Necktie (available in the college), Navy Blue Coat, Navy Blue Sweater (available in the college). A specimen Uniform will be displayed at the College counter. Waist Coats are not

permitted in the college. The College has arranged professional tailors who will provide uniforms at concession for the College students. All the students are expected to come to the College in full uniform and they must be clean. Tailor: New Fashion (Ph: 8575774756) will be available in the college during the admission days.

The college authorities are in no way responsible for any indiscipline/misbehaviour of students outside the College campus.The following documents are to be submitted by the selected candidates at the time of admission.

Smoking and the use of liquor or any kind of intoxicants / drugs are strictly forbidden. Indulgence in such habits is liable to make a student to be suspended / expelled from the college with immediate effect.

Use of mobile phones by students in the campus is prohibited. The institution offers PCO facility for the benefit of the students.

Students are admitted on the clear understanding that they will observe the rules of the institution and accept the authority of the Principal. They are expected to be courteous and considerate towards others and maintain a high standard of personal behaviour. No misdemeanour or indiscipline will be tolerated. Erring students will be punished with fine / suspension / or any other suitable penalty.

If anyone wishes to take his/her Transfer Certificate during the year he/she will have to clear all fees up to the end of the academic year / Semester. A fee of ̀ 100/- will also have to be paid towards Transfer Certificate and ` 50 each for other certificates. Such certificates will be issued only on the following day.

Application for admission, examination and registration are valid only when they are accepted by the University / Council.

The provisions of the Prospectus and Hand Book are subject to revision whenever necessary.

All the students of Cl XI and Degree First Years are expected to be part of any one of the following Clubs or Associations.

AICUF (All India Catholic University Federation) is involved in social upliftment programmes.

Campus Ministry: They take care to develop Salesian educational environment in the campus. They have outreach programmes in the villages through mobile library.

Journalists’ Club: It consist of a group of students who are involved in writing for the college digital magazine, write up for various other publications.

Media Club: These students represent the news and views through videography. They make eyes hear and ears to see through splendid camera effects.

Music Club: This group is engaged in promoting music in the campus. They compose and sing, thus promoting the innate talents among the students.

NSS: The three units of NSS (National Service Scheme) with its motto “Not me but YOU” inculcates in the young minds love for service and social development.

CLUBS / ASSOCIATIONS

Peace Club: This club seeks to promote peace all over through humanitarian activities.

Red Ribbon Club: This club enlightens the public and others about the evils of AIDS / HIV etc through street plays, programmes etc.

Rovers: This is a wing of the Bharat Scouts and Guides movement. Through this club, the members are trained to be prepared and to be at the service of the nation.

Women’s Club: This club fosters study and reflection on women in society.

Anyone can be a member of “Jesus Youth”. The passed out students are requested to join the Alumni Association and to be in touch with Alumni Unit of Maram.

PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL GROWTH SERVICE

Academic Excellence Programmes: Academic improvement programmes are organized from time to time by different departments. Regular seminars and workshops are conducted by experts for the faculty as well as students to improve their knowledge as well as soft skills.

Counseling services: The College has two full time counselors for the students as well as for the faculty members.

Retreats: Annual retreats are held for all the faculty and students to facilitate spiritual growth and renewal.

Personality Development Programmes: Regular programmes in personality and leadership skills are conducted by renowned trainers for the faculty and students.
