Access networks need advanced solutions

The copper based access networks (“Last Mile”) became the bottleneck for the delivery of broadband communication

DSL business continues to grow, expected to reach US$ 5B revenues at 2007!!

Higher bandwidth requirements for the end user, to provide increasing “triple play” needs, IPTV and HDTV, is leading to accelerated deployment of VDSL2 modems

Crosstalk interferences increase with multiple VDSL2 modems systems becoming more popular

Thus, the capacity of existing access networks and their capability to provide today’s bandwidth requirements are limited

Replacing the access network with optical solutions is expensive and in some urban areas not practical

iSMART vision is to develop the next generation of DSL, the DSM technology

Dynamic Spectrum Management (DSM) Next generation ADSL

Developing generic technology for dramatically increasing broadband access network capacity while utilizing existing copper infrastructure

Many research works show that centralized dynamic management of the lines in the access network enables to significantly increase the reach/rate of the access network. There is not yet commercial effective implementations of these research works.

Dynamic management of the spectrum/transmission power among the different transmitters can achieve: Significant decrease in the crosstalk interferences between the transmitters/lines Significant increase in the robustness of the transmitted signals to receiving quality

The Dynamic Spectrum Management ) DSM)can improve the access network capacity by hundreds of percentages!!

Enabling Telco’s to compete with cables companies, providing “triple play” services over existing copper infrastructure

European Telco’s members Academy research works for DSM algorithms in its various levels, and
