Learning pattern change in Engineering Education

• The learning of engineering has been transferred from the workplace to the schools• Establishment of theory and theory has been substituted for practice and application

• Observation and practice (Workshop base)• Supplemented by whatever instruction was relevant and available

• E learning• Virtual Laboratory• Remote Laboratory• Institute and Industry Collaboration• Web based learning• Distance Education

Page 4: Proposal for up gradation of ICT enabled High Voltage Laboratory at NIT, Durgapur N K Roy Professor & Associate Dean (Academic) National Institute of Technology

Benefits and Constraints of ICT in Education:

Benefits : Constraints:• Anywhere, Anytime, Anyone Learning• Substantial Cost and Time Savings• Innovative and Interactive Learning• Improved Collaboration• Just-in-Time Access to Timely Information• Self-paced Learning• Allows Learning to be Broken down into Units • Allows to combat faculty shortage

IT’S REALLY ROSY ??

• Level of interactivity• Strong ICT Infrastructure • Adequate Bandwidth Support• Budget constraints• Attitudinal constraints • Thorough training• Content development

• Electricity is most versatile form of energy

• Development of country rests largely on power sector progress

• Increasing Global demand of Electricity

• Implementation of Grid Concepts

• Testing for the equipment

• Development work on equipments for conducting research

• Economical and reliable operation of high voltage transmission system

Why High Voltage Engineering ?

High voltage:Minimize costs in conductors, towers and equipmentMinimize power loss to increase efficiencyThe higher the voltage the smaller the current and therefore the smaller the losses

P = V * I
