Proposal
I propose that my internship will take place at Lockmar Elementary School.
Lockmar is an A school in Palm Bay, Florida. I currently teach third grade at Lockmar
and would like to carry out my internship in my own classroom. I currently have twenty
students and I am responsible for teaching them all subjects.
I propose my mentor should be Carrie Balavender, our media specialist with
fifteen years of experience in the classroom and/or media center. Carrie is an amazing
teacher who works with our students on a weekly basis. She integrates technology,
speaking and listening, research, reading, and writing standards into her media center
block as frequently as she can. She has begun recording videos to ensure she covers
everything with each class daily. She is also integrating Google Classroom into the
media center this year. Carrie is an exemplary leader who frequently takes the initiative
to make our school a better place and is always very professional. She is someone
who I can express ideas to and we collaborate about how to incorporate more
technology or improve our school.
I propose that the project I will undertake during my internship is flipping my
classroom. Flipping my classroom will let my students and I have a blended learning
environment. I will “flip” traditional education by teaching content through screencasts,
videos, and through technology-rich materials that students can access at home and
online, basically their “homework.” In class, since less time will be spent on teacher-led
instruction, our time will be spent focusing on standards-integration and differentiated
activities. This will allow me to customize my instruction more effectively to meet the
needs of my students. I am interested in using Google Classroom as a major tool in
flipping my classroom, since my students and I have started integrating it this year.
Since flipping my classroom is a huge task, I plan to begin by flipping my math
instruction, then progressing to ELA.
