Class Prophecy

The twenty-fifth reunion of the Class of 1947 was held last week in the new highschool building. Everyone from the Class of '47 was present for a jolly reunion and thededication of the new building.

From the beginning the class has had a major interest in this "castle of comfort",which was completed through the efforts of many members of the class. The building wasdesigned by Francis Berglund, foremost sky-scraper engineer, and the plans were drawn upby Gilbert Botelle, master draftsman. Famed interior decorator, Eleanor Pronovost, designed the super interior, complete with movie projectors in each room, lounging chairsin the library, and an ice cream bar. Nina Ring, head dietician, supervised the planningof the Household Arts Department and giant cafeteria; June Schafer, physical educationdirector, was consulted on plans for the huge gymnasium which contains a swimming pool, equipment and shower rooms. Jack Traub, neuclear physicist, who recently isolated a newradio active particle, "The Isotraub", was advisor for equiping the three laboratories forthe chemistry and physics department. Virginia Copes, a director of stagework andscenery in New York, came down to assist William Lewis, editor of the "Hobo News" andleader of a Shakespearian Theater group, in the construction of the gigantic stage, dressingrooms, and auditorium. Carol Coon, United Nations delegate and also famed 'cellist, suggested plans for The Music Department. The completed building was landscaped byHoward Franson, gentleman farmer and owner of "Greenacres".

The spectacular event of the day of the reunion was the arrival of the dirigible, invented by Leonard Posa and John Dunn, whose minds have always been in the airanyway. The class "secretaries" Lillian Kuslis, Alice Kulikauskes, Florence Amicone,Helen Beveridge, Delores Fenn, Anna Feschuk, Ruth LaVigne, Jeanne Lemay, Alice Ziello,Harriet Poudrier, Irene Mailhot, Madelaine Vail, Dorothy Johnson, Nancy Montambault,June Garner, and Doris Charbonneau, were invited aloft. Nurses, Ann Lynch, RosemaryFilippone, Shirley Rice, Florence Seller, Caroline Shafer, and Theresa Vitone went too.The flight was a success with Gerald Quesnel, as pilot, Henry Viger, as co-pilot, and JohnPoudrier as chief mechanic.

On returning, they landed in the athletic field, designed by the famous athlete,Michael Keilty. Here, Nancy Linsky's horse shied but Nancy regained control and rodeover to greet the assemblage.

The day was a gala occasion. Mary Bianchini took pictures of the group; KennethSanford sold his scientific ice cream. Dorothy Bassford, medical secretary, accidentallydipped her finger in a pot of unknown contents in the chemistry laboratory, and was heldglued there for an hour before her plight could be remedied. In one of the smallerlaboratories, Justin Smith, President of The Consolidated Neuclear Fission Toasters, Inc.with his Vice-Presidents, Louis Lorenson, James Damery, Bill Long and RobertMontambault, were found testing the laboratory equipment. The Mother's Club, includingMary Bartone, Ruth Booth, Florence Everett, Betty Hallock and Louise Sasso, sang threesongs. Pupils of Olive Knudson's dancing studio gave a recital, and members of theRosalind Good Dramatic Academy presented one of their own plays. The dress designer,

Pamela Perry, modeled her new creation, the "Perry Puff". Shirley O'Dell gave a shorttalk on "Bookkeeping in the home", and Lewis Marggraff spoke on "Dentistry is an art".Gerald Garceau, prominent lawyer, gave a short oration. As part of the program, MissJennie Greco stopped on her way to Europe to sing some of her favorite solos. A few ofour busy executives including Ernest Wheeler, who flew in from Hollywood, GregoryPayne, August Reichenbach, Arnold Andrus, now manager of W. T. Grants, Elmer Kaszas, manufacturer of non-destructable paper bags, Albert Dwyer, maker of stringless guitars,Bob Gagnon, owner of the local five-and-ten, and John Humiston, radio magnate, wereable to get away for the reunion.

Hugh Campbell, arch-bishop of Techawana, came back to Watertown for thededication ceremony. The great mural painted by Louise Antico was unveiled, and DanielZuraitis, famous wood carver, gave a magnificent plaque to the new high school from theClass of '47. Maribelle Wills, physical therapist, strained her wrist demonstrating one ofher new treatments, and first aid was given by George Cocco, leading medical researchdoctor.

Charlotte Andrews came all the way to the reunion from her missionary work inChina. Roberta Dubpernell, designer of "Tiny Tots Furniture and Play Toys" delightedthe mothers with her scientific toys. A committee of World War II Veterans, RaymondPillis, Albert Podjunas, Patsy Pisco, Hercules Narde, Jack Gaffrey, and Robert Hassel, donated free punch to the assembled alumni. Joan Sullivan, laboratory expert for a foodconcern, passed out free samples of some of the famous recipes she originated.

The Twenty-Fifth reunion of the Class of '47 ended on a note of good feeling. It ishoped that a fiftieth reunion can be held in 1997. One of the greatest pleasures of thereunion was the chit chat and recall of memories of classroom foibles, of achievement, andof good fellowship.

Class Will

We, the Class of 1947, being in sane mind, do give and bequeath all our possessions, both earthly and spiritual, as follows:

To any Junior who has some stamina of his own we leave the extra courage needed tolook Mr. Moberg straight in the eye without blinking.

Jack Traub's ability at stretching dollars as our business manager to Cliff Wickstrom.

Some advice from Campbell and Dunn on "How to Skip Classes" to Muzzy Lecchiand Deacon Garner.

Mickey Kielty's sports record, to be carried on by Charlie Miller.

Jack Caffrey's neat dancing to Lawrence Osburn. To Mrs. Bronson we leave some "private secretaries" who dust their typewriters,

never erase or chew gum, and wear their fingernails short and colorless.

Chy Andrew's job as Inkspots editor to Barbara Rose.Dot Bassford's loquaciousness to Mary Reichenbach."Fuzzy" Berglund leaves a bottle of his own hair bleach to any brunette boy. Remem-

ber—"Girls prefer blondes."Carol Coon's ability to carry a 'cello plus an armful of books to her sister, Sue.

Madeline Vail's vampishness to Marilyn Parker.Jennie Greco, our "singing star" bequeaths her ability to any under graduate with

good lungs.

Nina Ring's height to June Dwyer.

Kenny Sanford's big smile to Williard Franklin "TO BE PUT TO USE IMMEDI-ATELY."

To the Junior boys we leave Rosemary Dubpernell's studiousness. They all need it.

Jimmie Damery's nice socks to Bob Barlow.

Jack Traub's brilliant mind to Buddy Judd, for further development.

Louise Antico's artistic ability to Evie Rubin.

We leave a big, new bus to the team, to take them and the cheerleaders to all thegames.

Danny Zuraitis' curly hair to Harry Williams.

Ginger Copes leaves the twenty million dollars given her by Mr. Todd to the JuniorClass, who will soon find out that "it has no value."

Mabel Will's giggle to Nancie Long.

Doris Charbonneau leaves a sling shot to the cheerleaders so they may shoot peoplesuch as Jim Damery.

"Handsome" Kaszas' smile to Teddy Barkauskas.

Each Senior leaves his desk, his duties, some of his brains, and two cups of schoolspirit. These are to be mixed well, and spread evenly through-out the coming year.

Having successfully (? ) disposed of our beloved possessions, we set our hand and sealhereunto on this the day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundredand forty-seven.

Class HistoryDear Diary,

Fall, 1945;At last we are Freshmen—terrifying though it may seem. Today we elected

officers, having met just about everyone who is a Freshman. There are about onehundred forty of us. The slate is: Dominic Fusco, President; Louis Lorenson, Vice-President; Shirley Rice, Secretary; and Madeline Vail, Treasurer; to lead us safelythrough our first year at W.H.S.Saint Patrick's Day, 1943

What a gay get-together we had tonight—Irish invitations and a team tofight for in the hilarious relay races. Afterwards we had entertainment, refresh-ments and dancing.Fall, 1944

Now we are Sophomores, and new Freshmen have come in. How superiorwe all feel. We have a new set of officers: Hugh Campbell as President; Vice-President, Mickey Kielty; Louise Sasso, Secretary; and Louise Thomas, Treasurer.April 20, 1945

Tonight was the night of the Sophomore party, although it was postponed aweek. This was another fun-packed evening—we had some team games, enter-tainment, dancing, and refreshments.Fall, 1945

Well, we're almost to the top now—for we are Juniors. Once more we haveelected officers. Our new President is Louis Lorenson, with Justin Smith as runningmate, Cy Andrews, Secretary, and Richard Gugielmetti as Treasurer. For an extraspecial Prom, we have a hard-working milk committee, headed by Jack Traub.Of course we use only Sanford's Grade A.

Although the Ring Committee, with Bob Kontout as chairman, tried to getrings this spring, the rings will not come until next fall.May, 1946

The night of the Prom is here at last—and everyone is here to enjoy Delfinoand his band. We danced at a roof garden night club, with stars all around.Hugh Campbell was chairman—we all had a good time.Fall, 1946

Here we are at last—Seniors! We have a capable set of officers. Thoseelected were Justin Smith our President; Hugh Campbell, Vice-President; AliceZiello, Secretary; Ernest Wheeler, Treasurer. Although our ranks have dwindledsomewhat, several veterans have came back to swell our numbers.November 22, 1946

The first event of the season to earn money for the Senior Class was heldtonight—a "Harvest Hop". Although we could not have an outdoor bonfire, theindoor decorations were wonderful—red and yellow spotlights and rustic cornstalks.December 19, 1946

Most of the High School was on roller skates tonight at Hamilton Park forthe benefit of our class.March 28, 1947

Tonight was the big night for our Senior play—"Junior Miss". It certainlywas good!June 13, 1947

Friday, the thirteenth isn't unlucky for us—we had a wonderful Prom. Itwas a good sendoff from W.H.S.June 18, 1947

Commencement—and we are ready to leave the familiar halls of W.H.S.We will miss them but we hope a part of each of us will remain, at least in memory.

During the '46-'47 season, W.H.S., always the scrappy quintet, droppeda lot of tough decisions. Playing against top competition, the Injuns lost alittle better than half of their B Class games, with victories over such luminar-ies as Sacred Heart and Seymour. Coach Bob Cook, with a strength of varsityreserves looks forward to a successful season next year.

The Masquers The Masquers have been particularly busy this year. In the fall three one-

act plays were presented to the public. The competitive play, "The Purple Torch", was given in Danbury in April. "Pride and Prejudice" was presented as the annual spring play, with an all-star cast.

The Masquers also enjoyed some renown in the community in the presenta- tion of some one-act plays for several mens' and womens' organizations.

The Thespians gave an assembly, for the student body, in March. It was their rendition of the old vaudeville days, with such songs as "Strolling Through the Park" featured. The performers, as well as the audience, enjoyed this short

Student CouncilThe Student Council, this year, has tried to provide a more adequate

method for cleaning up the grounds around the school. They have revised theold method of choosing clean-up squads, by rooms, to the more efficient methodof two from each class.

On April twenty-third, the Student Council will sponsor an assembly, atwhich time, the Debating Club will debate on the subject of installing thehonor system in Watertown High. No direct action has been taken as yet,but it is hoped that the system will be tried out soon.

The officers are Hugh Campbell, President; Charles Miller, Vice-Presi-dent; and Gloria Taylor, Secretary. Mr. Murphy and Mr. Hayes are the facultyadvisors.
