Form 5S1429 Printed in U.S.A. 05801 0107 /015 / VCPVP Description Dayton radial blade belt-driven blowers are used to move air and material. Model 3C539 handles long stringy materials such as: wood shavings, paper trim and fibrous materials such as: textile scrap, wool and ensilage. Models 3C106, 3C107, 3C108 and 3C540 handle granular materials such as: sawdust, grain and particle-laden industrial process air or gases. Wheel and housing are constructed of steel. Maximum inlet air temperature250°F(121°C). Assembled for bottom horizontal discharge and clockwise (CW) rotation. Standard discharge positions can be changed in the field to either CW or CCW rotation, and any one of sixteen standard discharge positions. See Figure 2. Baked-on gray polyester/epoxy. In addition, for blowers using a heat slinger, a heat shield can be installed between motor and housing allowing the maximum inlet temperature to increase to 500°F. Unpacking After unpacking the blower, inspect carefully for any damage that may have occurred during transit. Rotate wheel by hand to be sure it turns freely. General Safety Information 1. Follow all local electrical and safety codes, as well as the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) in the United States. 2. Blower must be securely and adequately grounded. This can be accomplished by wiring with a grounded, metal-clad raceway system, by using a separate ground wire connected to the bare metal of blower frame, or other suitable means. 3. Always disconnect power source before working on or near a motor or its connected load. If the power disconnect point is out-of-sight, lock it in the open position and tag to prevent unexpected application of power. 4. Be careful when touching the exterior of an operating motor – it may be hot enough to be painful or cause injury. With modern motors, this condition is normal when operated at rated load and voltage – modern motors are built to operate at higher temperatures. 5. Protect the power cable from coming in contact with sharp objects. 6. Do not kink power cable and never allow the cable to come in contact with oil, grease, hot surfaces, or chemicals. 7. Make certain that the power source conforms to the requirements of your equipment. 8. When cleaning electrical or electronic equipment, always use an approved cleaning agent such as dry cleaning solvent. 9. Not recommended as an explosion proof blower. Do not use where explosive fumes or gases are present. 10. If blower is operated without an inlet or outlet duct, guard openings in accordance with OSHA regulations to prevent contact with rotating blower wheel.

Installation1. Blowers are assembled for bottom

horizontal discharge. The discharge position can be changed to any one of its other discharge positions by removing the bolts between the supporting angles and the housing. Rotate to the desired position.

2. Make sure all bolts and screws are tightened before mounting on a rigid, flat, level foundation. Bolt the blower securely into position.

3. Check the interior of the fan housing to be sure it is free of debris. Rotate the wheel to insure that it is not rubbing or binding. Check the clearance of the wheel and the inlet cone. If rubbing exists, loosen the bolts on the cone and shift the cone until clearance is obtained. If still rubbing, loosen the set screw on the wheel and shift the wheel rearward to obtain clearance. Retighten the set screw.

Figure 4 –Correct Sheave Alignment

NOTE: Drive tension should berechecked after the first 50 to100 hours of operation.

4. Mount motor on motor base. Holes are provided to accommodate various frame size motors. Tighten motor to base with nuts, bolts, and lock washers.

5. Mount V-Belt drive and align motor and fan sheave. Tighten all set screws or bolts in the case of sheaves with bushings. Adjust the belt tension by raising or lowering the J-bolts on themotor base. Belts should be tighteneduntil the slack side can be depressedabout 3/4” for each foot of span between the pulleys.

6. All exposed moving parts must beproperly guarded as per the recom-mendations of the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) in the United States.

Electrical Hazard –Turn power off

before servicing. Lock it out.

Rotating Blades –Keep hands and

feet away from unguarded openings.

Do not operate fanwithout drive guard.

Stop fan from rotating prior to servicing.

Operation1. Before connecting the motor to the

electric supply, check the electrical characteristics as indicated on the motor nameplate to insure proper voltage and phase.

A ground wire must run from the blower

motor housing to a suitable electricalground, such as a properly grounded metallic raceway or a ground wire system.

OPTIONAL HEAT SLINGERThe optional split-type aluminum heatslinger should be installed on the blowershaft, between the housing and inboardbearing, with the fins (blades) facing thebearing. Position the heat slinger as close to the bearing as possible withouttouching. Tighten the hex head boltssecurely. A safety guard should beinstalled over the heat slinger.

NOTE: If a heat shield is installed betweenmotor and housing, the maximum inlettemperature is increased to 500ºF forthose blowers using a heat slinger.

NOTE: The safety guard is not providedwith the heat slinger. Provided by others.

2. After electrical connections are completed, apply just enough power to start the unit. Be sure that the rotation of the wheel is correct as indicated by directional arrows on the unit. If proper rotation, apply full electrical power.

3. With the air system in full operation and all ducts attached, measure current input to the motor and compare with the nameplate rating to determine if the motor is operatingunder safe load conditions.

MaintenanceBefore attempting any repair work,

be certain that all power to the motorand electrical accessories are turned offand locked in off position.

1. Pillow block ball bearings:

a. Inspect and tighten all bearing collar set screws after the first 50 to 100 hours of operation and periodically thereafter.

b.Lubricate the blower bearings while the shaft is rotating, use a good grade of ball bearing grease, (Shell Oil Co., Alvania #2, Texaco Premium, RB, Exxon Unirex N2, Mobil 532, or equal). Apply with a hand gun until a slight bead of grease is noticeable around the bearing seal. Stop lubrication when the bead is formed. DO NOT OVERLUBE.

c. Bearings that have been stored for any period of time must be lubricated before startup.

d.Refer to Lubrication Guide chart above.

e. Bearings are prelubricated at the factory. At higher RPMs, any excess grease will escape from the bearingseals. This condition is normal.

f. Relubrication intervals depend on bIower application. When lubricating the bearings observe the following. If the bearing grease is clean you could extend the lubrication interval, but if the bearing grease is black and dirty the interval should be shortened.

2. Bearing Replacement: Wheel and shaft must be supported before any dismantling is attempted. Remove

drives, loosen and remove bearing bolts. Next loosen the retaining set screws on the bearing collars. Remove the bearings from the shaft only after the wheel and shaft are securely supported.

3. Shaft Removal: After following the steps listed for the removal of the bearings, loosen the set screws in the wheel hub. With the wheel securely blocked, pull the shaft from the wheel.

4. Wheel Replacement: Remove the bolts on the inlet upright support. Loosen set screws on wheel hub and lift wheel from housing.

Speed Bearing Greasing

RPM Temperature Condition Interval

0-100 To 140°F Clean 6-12 Mo.

101-1500 To 140°F Clean 2-6 Mo.

Lubrication Guide4. Motor will be overloaded if blower RPM exceeds that recommended inperformance table, or if operated below static pressure shown.

Do not exceed6,600 FPM inlet or
