Other Stock Marathon divisional champions include, Timothy Ross (CSR), Josh Pearson (DSR) and Brian Mitsch (25SSR).

Region 6 racing continued with the 63rd Annual PNC Road on The River World Championships. Here it was Terry Rinker who would run away with the SST-200 World Championship. Following Terry was Tammy Wolf in 2nd and Mark Proffitt in 3rd.

In a real close race in the SST-45 World Championship, it was Mark Schmerebauch finishing just a head of RJ West. Coming in 3rd place was Gary Barber.

The Inboard circuit continued on Pontiac Lake in Waterford, Mich., with the Qyake on The Lake 14. Again it was the Grand National Hydro, National Modified,

Racing SST-200 as well, Bork also took two first place finishes on Saturday and Sunday. Kristine Bjork, Racing GT Pro, wasn't able to keep up pace with Brandon Lick who took a first place finish on both days of racing. Sport C belonged to Allan Hunting, as he claimed the top spot both days.

As the racing continued in Region 7, the action stared to heat up for the PRO Eastern Divisionals and the Modified North American Championships at the

2.5-Litre Modified, 2.5-Litre Stock, 5-Litre and 1-Litre's hitting the water. Joining them were also the loS-Litre Stocks. Here Race Director Kyle Wilson couldn't have been prouder of the turnout and the way the event went.

Mter the rainout at the Stock Outboard, Modified Outboard and Junior Classes Nationals, the Modified Outboard Commission elected to run the rest of their Nationals in Dayton, Ohio, at the Great American Outboard Race. In total five classes had crowned National Champions 200ccMR (David Bennett), 250ccMR (Edward Hearn), 350ccMR (Rick Miller), 200ccMH (Andy Hansen) and 500ccMH (Daniel Koschka).

REGION 8 As Region 8 closes the 2013 season, we wanted to take the time to reflect on our exciting season highlights.

Getting ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Twin Cities Power Boat Association (TCPBA) we would like to take the opportunity to thank a few of our TCPBA founders: Howard Pipkorn, Dick Kojetin and Jerry Johnson; noting that both Howard and Dick are still racing; and Dick at the young age of 70.

As Region 8's races take place in the upper Midwest, Mother Nature is always something the racers have to contend with. As our season was about to begin, she had a mindset of her own by dumping snow on us a week before our first race, making it difficult for our racers to get ready for the season. That said, it was still a fun and eventful race season, there were close calls and even closer races. Even the 2013 Region 8 Chairman Donnie Lick's "Fly Em' High" #11 boat wasn't invincible. The boat took flight with pilot Jeff Hansen on the first race of the year; taking the Lick boat out of commission for most of the season.

In 2014 we elected a new chairman, Dave McCormick, who brings a strong knowledge of boating racing to the table. Assisting Dave as Vice Commissioner will be Merv Bjork; we believe both will be great representatives of Region 8. Jeff Larson accepted his new position of Secretary/ Treasurer. If you have a chance, please congratulate them on their newly elected position.

Region 8 racers are not the type to simply stay put, and several have traveled the nation

promoting the sport of boat racing. Jeff Larson, Jeff Krischano and Merv Bjork traveled to other region events this year. Krischano scored a few 1st place finishes in Florida and took the North American Championship home from the Pittsburgh Regatta as well as finished as the APBA national points leader for SST-60. Merv Bjork took home a 3rd place finish in Knoxville, Tenn., with the white #32 boat and a 2nd place finish in Orange, Texas. The Welch race team traveled around the country racing and finished respectively in the circuit. These racers demonstrated that some of the best racers in the nation call Region 8 their home.

Our own 2013 season was simply amazing. As we attempt to get the word out about TCPBA, the spectators are starting to hear us. It seems as we get more at each race, which makes this all worth it. We had close races all season, which was exciting for our fans, as well as the drivers.

In GT Pro, Brandon Lick and Stephanie Hansen battled it out until the last race of the season, where Brandon was able to take the race and the TCPBA championship, when Steph's boat hooked in the corner and died out. Not sheading any tears, Stephanie took the National Championship in Kankakee, Ill. Both Stephanie and Megan Halver pulled double duty racing in both GT Pro and Sport C. Marissa and Becca Fortuna, along with Emma Wachholz, tried to chase down the front runners but just couldn't pull out the win. Emma did take 3rd place in Kankakee, while Marissa and Becca's boat (piloted by Jeff Larson) took 2nd.

In Sport C, Allan Hunting and Nancy battled it out. Coming out on top, Allan took 1st in all but one race, and as you may

have guessed, Nancy was the one who took 1st in that race.

In VP-75, wow what a race season. This is a class where you never know what may happen, or who may win the race. This is why the fans call them the "Crazies." It was a tough, down to the nitty gritty ... tie. Not sure if that has ever happened in racing, but it did this year in the TCPBA. Paul Jorgenson and Chris Lazarz came in for the season with a point total of2,719. Not sure how we are going to settle who gets 1st, maybe rock, paper, scissors? I do want to mention that Dick Kojetin came in a strong 3rd place, even with being, urn .... 70-years-old. Great job guys.

Our hobby stock racers had a short season with only two races, where Chris Vadnais took 1st and Tim Fortuna took 2nd. The SST-60 class welcomed a few new racers this season bringing our total boat count to nine. Two of our new SST-60 racers are women. Welcome Jessica Olson and Kris Bjork. What a back and forth battle between the Jeff Krischano and Jeff Hansen all season. It seemed as though Jeff Krischano and Jeff Hansen were going to duke it out, but with Jeff Krischano's hard knocks (flipping, prop damage and a collision) and Jeff Hansen unable to make it to two races, they both fell down the ladder and opened the door for Dean Hansen to take TCPBA High Points. Dean's son Mike Hansen took a close 2nd, falling only to his father. We can't wait to see what 2014 has to offer for the SST-60 class. In addition we would like to welcome David Garza too, the SST -60 class as well this year.

SST -120 was a different story, Brian Tabara led in all but one race; taking home 1st place High Points in TCPBA as well as 2nd place for APBA High Points. I would say he

The 2013 Region 10 Vintage Award for: Event of the Year went to Tim Hamilton, Race Director, and Tacoma Inboard Racing A ssociation for the Terry Troxell Memorial Regatta at Pateros, Washington; Team of the Year to Dixon Smith and the Miss Bardahl; Rookie of the Year to Kirk Rodgers in the H -00 Miss Marion Bluegrass; and category High Points to Frank and Jeff Schneider and their E-l Calypso Too. The APBA Vintage Chairman's West Coast Award for "Outstanding Contribution to the Vintage Category" went to the husband and wife team of Jerry and Terri Kelson. The strength of the Region 10 Vintage C ategory showed in the 70 attendees at the meeting. The group has now adopted a separate identity, "Northwest Vintage Hydroplanes"with a logo; patches and decals are available. M ore boats are on the way too, Region Rep.Jim Olson is speculating about 30 in the water, active in 2014.

For the many retirees who use Vintage race boats as their prescription for keeping active, happy, engaged, the follow gets it about right: "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn out and shouting W oo H oo ... what a Ride." D own south, the Cal-Ore River racers have wrapped up their brief but spectacular season. Larry D arneille reports the news from this very active club:

"The conclusion of the Cal-Ore 2013 season is the awards presentation at the Lucky Seven Casino in Smith River, Calif. Although it was an abbreviated season, the battles were hard fought. The 2013 season had some of the closest competition in recent history. Coming out on top as the High Point driver and also High Point owner is Tyler McGinnis of Gold Beach, Ore. The 2013 Rookie of the Year is Joel H ood of Grants Pass, Ore. The Sportsman of the Year is Matt Richardson, also of Grants Pass, Ore., while the Most Improved Driver is John McAllister of Junction City Ore. This year's Service Award goes to Ryan McGinnis of Gold Beach, Ore., who took a year off from racing and provided and drove the safety sweep boat. Last but not least J ebb Curtis of Gold Beach, Ore., receives the Hard Luck Trophy as his season ended

with an accident on the first lap of the first race.Jebb will be back with much better luck in 2014.

The Cal-Ore River Racer's had a great season and the High Points winners are as follows:

Tyler McGinnis 1475 Jeff Lewis 909 Jeff Laird 625 Derek Woolsey 438 John McAllister 352

Congratulations to all of our winners. The 2014 racing season will be an exciting one, with a returning full race schedule. There are at least three new rookie drivers planning on joining the circuit to compete with the four rookies from 2013. There will also be the addition ofD-Stock Runabout to at least one race in 2014."

There's a whole new crew at the helm of Tacoma Inboard Racing Association for 2014. Mter the dust cleared from their recent election, it looks like "Girl Power" is going to be running TIRA's show. New commodore Ana Cappelletti checks in with all the big news:

"Wow, what a year we've had in our region. Starting in Moses, Tacoma Inboard's first race of the season had a great turn out. 5-Litre record was broken by Kip Brown in the Block Head Machine/My Way. We would also like to thank SOA for coming to our event and putting on some exciting racing. As the season progessed our next race was the Terry Troxell Memorial Regatta in Pateros,we had an amazing turnout of both Flatbottoms and Vintage. It was quite a weekend with some excellent racing. But, at the end of the weekend we had to award someone with the Terry Troxell Award for their great racing and on and off the course attitude and appreciation. This years recipient was Nick Bononcini, it was rightfully owed. Congratulations, Nick.

Then to end the year with Summer Nationals at Spanaway. There was some of the best racing that many have seen in quite some time. We would like to thank all that came out both far and near. ... Without all of the participation and volunteer work that was put into this event, it would not have been the huge success it was.

Moving into 2014 there are some new things coming up to look forward to. We have new officers and board members for the 2014 season. Commodore- Ana Cappelletti, Vice-Commodore- Dorie Ross, Secretary- Kimm Bussmeir, Treasurer- Sue Troxell; and board members; Jeff Schneider, Sharon Strain, Tim Hamilton and David Dodge, Karl Fortner and Brandon Payne. We are looking forward to another exciting year of racing in 2014."

Rounding out this month's report is Jim Codling's wrap-up of Seattle Drag and Ski's racing season:

"Here it is November 1st and off we go. We are having a baby boom and all kinds of new bundles of joy. Bianca and Jimmy Shane, Josh and Tori and the Harnack clan, our friends at Squaxin island (Jennifer), Jeff and Christabelle, The Rautenbergs, and who knows ... there are lots more future flag kids in the mix. Our summer program with the Junior youngsters has gone well, the SOA high powered program has progressed, thanks to Don Kelson for all his help.

The new SE Class, I consider a success, and the GPS 95 gang is doing well and of course the I-Litre class is growing again. This winter we all need to rev up some of our other classes, Super Stock, Pro Stock and Cracker Box. Where are they? National Mods are around, now we need to get them back out. (Lawrence is coming. 5-Litres need some help. Grand Prixs are alive and looking for some commitments for our 2014 season. M ore help?? Our club officers are up for elections soon, come on in and participate, it is your future.

The National Meeting is coming in January in Reno, so not too far away to travel to. REGION 11 Looking back on the 2013 race season brings to mind a full array of milestones, memories and mourning. We in Region 11 will recollect fondly, remember profoundly and reminisce affectionately all that was 2013.

East Bay Boat Club spearheaded the time trials at the Thermalito Mterbay in Oroville, Calif., on the weekend of March 16th and 17th, where some 33 entrants took shots at establishing the new % mile records and the traditional UIM kilo record on the dual set-up course surveyed by Russ and Carol Dodge from Region 10. The fact that 13 records went into the book makes Oroville pretty fast water.

The success of this event was due in large part to the efforts and support of a lot of hard working people; specifically, Dan Wilde, Steve Wilde, Jean MacKay Schwartz, Gloria Crim, O'Hara Schmeltz, and Kay Boyes along with Bill Miller, Russ and Carol Dodge, Steve Wilde and Rex "Rocket" Bothell; all of them monitored scanners along with their other individual duties. Our Region Chairman, Bill Boyes, also monitored a scanner! ChiefInspector, Bill Thompson, came down from Region 10 to head a crew made up of Dan Schwartz, Julian Rucki and trainee, Brian Schmeltz. Patrol Captains were Allan Sutfin and Karl Bishop.

On May 5th, 2013 a pantheon of race boats combined for a Play Day at the Salt Spring Valley Resort and Campground. "Combined" in that event numerous categories were represented. preparation for the upcoming season opener at Lake Minden.

Lake Minden was the site of the first race of the season, and as usual it drew a nice turnout of both drivers and spectators. A good showing of Crackers was highlighted by the winner, Tony Lombardo in John Canfield's P-5 boat. Out of the Cracker and into Dan and Jean Schwartz's ASH, the Concord Flash turned in another podium finish. Buzz "The Kid" Rasmussen of 20SSH fame, did a nice job as race director.

Another highlight was Bill Hollman's first first-place showing in his newly acquired CSH. Bill came up through the Nor Cal ranks and is now running his own new boat. Just two weeks later, the Unlimited Hydroplanes returned to California's Folsom Lake for the first time in 60 years and drew crowds numbering in the thousands. On the undercard the fans greeted a Cracker Box field headed by the Concord Flash, Tony Lombardo who once again drove John Canfields P-9, "Pandora's Box", to victory on both days. Jim Mathews drove the P87,"In the Mood"to 3rd and 2nd place finishes on Sunday following 3rd and 2nd place finishes on Saturday. Eddie Solis' P-9 garnered podium finishes on Saturday, but suffered problems on Sunday. Chuck Doidge's P-94 sees his sons Jeff and Dan rotating the driving duties and they had gremlins on Saturday but came back on Sunday with a 2nd in the qualifier and topped that with a 3rd overall. The ASH action was dominated by Tony Lombardo on both days. Gordon Jennings, Jared Wallach and David Hale delivered podium finishes in AXH finishing 1,2 and 3 respectively. Dave Rankin headed a the Super Stock field of 10 boats and showed them the way around in the Saturday qualifier, followed by a first and then on Sunday swept both races. He was challenged by Tom Buckles who garnered

first place finishes on Saturday followed by Skip Tuttle. SST-45 action saw a 10 boat field fighting it out on some pretty rough water. Jason Williams, Spencer Love and Dean Comer swept the first three places on both. Dean Comer, Frank Banducci (the oldest fart on the water), Robert DeLauter (Frank's grandson), Warren West, Tony Lombardo and Walt Hollis made the rest of the field look good in some hot and heavy action.

On June 15th and 16th, the East Bay Boat Club hosted the Tammy Dawe Memorial and Western Divisionals at the Salt Spring Resort near Copperopolis, Calif. This was truly a cooperative effort as evidenced by the combined hard work of volunteers from Regions 10, 11 and 12.Jim Nilsen of Region 10 teamed with Daniel Wilde of Region l1's EBBC to serve as race directors while Rick Sandstrom of Region 10 teamed with Ernie Dawe of Region 12 and Gloria Crim of Region 11 to handle the referee duties. Inspection duties were handled by Steve Greaves of Region 10, Steve Wilde of Region 11 along with Dan Schwartz and Brian Schmeltz of Region 11. Chief Scorer was Jean MacKay Schwartz aided and abetted by Kay Boyes and O'Hara Schmeltz while Karl Bishop served as Risk Manager. The results of this race are posted on the APBA website. At this event several Region 11 drivers qualified for their respective nationals. Good show and great racing.

On The weekend of September 14th and 15th, the East Bay Boat Club put on the Patriot's Day Regatta at Salt Spring Reservoir. The shocker of the weekend was the passing of Dan Schwartz, who passed awau on Sunday while performing his duties as the ChiefInspector for the event. Memorial services were held in various parts of the APBA world of boat racing, a testament to the respect and high esteem

A ton of ASH boats turned out and it was ... you guessed it! ... Tony Lombardo taking 1st place honors on both days. Six Crackers showed and the 1st place honors on Saturday and the first heat on Sunday went to John Canfield's P-5, "Pandora's Box", driven by Tony Lombardo. The Doidge Brothers, Dan and Jeff, driving Chuck Doidge's P-94 came on with a bang in the second heat on Sunday to bring home the bacon. At the Saturday night dinner,John Canfield was presented with a beautiful cake in honor of his retirement. The cake, by Sandy Rouse, depicted his P-5 Cracker Box and also displayed an APBA shield designating him as number 1 for 2013.

The "race of the day" had to be the contest between Craig (the father) and Brett (the son) Williams in C-Stock Runabout. His dad gave no quarter and Brett had to stay on his game for the entire heat to get the win. What a show!
