Datascope Receives 510(k) Clearance to Market the Trio Monitor
MONTVALE, NJ, Feb. 27, 2004 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- Datascope Corp. (NASDAQ: DSCP) announced today that it has received 510(k) clearance to launch the Trio(TM), its new, low-acuity monitor, in the U.S. market. Entry into the U.S. market increases Datascope's opportunity in the compact monitor category by approximately $35M.
The Trio is a portable patient monitor that targets price-sensitive markets estimated at $80M in annual worldwide sales. These markets include surgery centers, general hospital and outpatient applications. Since its international introduction in third quarter of FY03, the Trio has been successful in satisfying the feature and price requirements of the international markets. A significant addition to the low-end monitoring market, the Trio features full monitoring capabilities including ECG, Respiration, Blood Pressure, Oxygen Saturation, and Temperature monitoring. The Trio also provides one of the largest and highest resolution displays in a compact, highly portable package with optional battery power for patient transport.
The U.S. launch of the Trio marks the seventh new product launch by Datascope within the last twelve months. In the fiscal year ended June 30, 2003, sales of Datascope's Patient Monitoring Division, which manufactures and markets a full line of patient monitoring solutions, grew 9% to $136.5 million, accounting for 42% of total corporate sales of $328.3 million.

Datascope has clearly designed the Trio for low-end, price sensitive monitoring markets. It has the basic set of non-invasive parameters (ECG, Resp, NIBP, SpO2, Temp) with a large color display and a fold-away bedrail handle. The Trio fills the gap in Datascope’s monitor portfolio between the Accutorr Plus portable NIBP monitor and the more fully functioned Passport 2 and Spectrum. It does not have any invasive parameters or networking capabilities, but does combine the basics with a simple industrial design and a high-resolution display. TARGET MARKETS / STRATEGIC APPROACH Datascope is targeting a variety of low-acuity areas with the Trio monitor including surgery centers, outpatient clinics, bedside applications on general hospital floors and in- and intra-hospital transport. Datascope is using the Trio to attack these low-acuity domestic markets that do not need CO2, IBP or advanced ECG monitoring, as well as the price-sensitive international markets. In MDBuyline, the Trio primarily shows up as part of larger monitor deals as a complement to the Passport and Spectrum.

Milwaukee – Now doctors and nurses can observe and record patients' complete vital signs without interruption, even while a patient is in transit between care areas of a hospital. The Transport Pro monitor from GE Medical Systems Information Technologies enables continuous display of vital signs in transit and captures an unbroken monitoring history. The advanced technology, which functions as part of a modular system, also significantly reduces the time required to prepare patients for transfers. "Safe patient transfer requires the uninterrupted monitoring of vital signs with no loss of monitoring performance," said Kevin King, vice president of Clinical Systems for GE Medical Systems Information Technologies. "Historically, clinicians preparing a patient for transfer had to disconnect one monitor, connect another monitor to be used during transport, then repeat the process when the patient arrived at the destination," said King. "That process included switching ECG leads, applying a new blood pressure cuff and cabling, and changing pulse oximetry probes. All that takes time, in addition to which a patient’s historical vital sign data is lost each time they are disconnected from the monitoring system.” "Now clinicians can not only record but also observe complete vital signs every step of the way to the operating room, emergency department, intensive care unit, procedure room, or any other destination in the hospital,” added King. The Transport Pro unit is a display module that works with the widely-accepted Solar® patient monitors and the Tram® multiparameter monitor module. To prepare a patient for transfer, a clinician simply removes the Tram module from the Solar monitor and docks it inside the Transport Pro display. The components are fully compatible so the patient doesn’t need to be disconnected from the monitoring system. During transfer, patient vital signs are shown on the Transport Pro unit screen. At the destination department, a clinician removes the Tram unit from the Transport Pro case and docks it inside another Solar monitor. Again, monitoring proceeds uninterrupted. The Transport Pro unit has a color LCD display that provides graphic trends for one-hour, four-hour, eight-hour, and 24-hour reviews, with 15-minute and 30-minute review modes. It includes on-display gauges with battery status information. Batteries can be exchanged while in use to provide continuous monitoring with no loss of data. OVERVIEW In October 2003, GE Medical Systems launched the Transport Pro Display. This device is a large screen display that houses the GE Tram® modules (used in GE Solar® Monitors) to act as an in-hospital transport monitor. When a patient needs to be transported, the Tram module is removed from the Solar monitor and inserted into the Transport Pro Display. OVERVIEW Philips has replaced the A1 monitor in its product line with the SureSigns C1 and is marketing it as “compact, versatile monitoring for transport and low-acuity care. The C1 is essentially the same monitor as the A1, but is re-branded to be the younger brother to the C3. The C3 has the basic non-invasive parameters: 3 lead ECG, SpO2, non-invasive blood pressure with STAT mode, respiration and one channel of predictive thermometry. Philips highlights the light weight of the C3 and its ease of use. The C3 is a configured, stand-alone monitor with no networking capabilities that is separate from the IntelliVue family of modular monitors. It will be a clearly a direct competitor to the Propaq LT within in-hospital transport and low-acuity bedside applications. TARGET MARKETS Philips is targeting various environments with the C1: general care floors, emergency departments, triage areas, recovery areas, office-based surgery and transport. Its low list price also positions it well for outpatient clinics, doctors’ offices and extended care facilities. STRATEGIC APPROACH: With the C1, Philips is trying to expand its reach beyond the ICU/CCU areas into lower-acuity and transport settings. September 11, 2003 Philips new, non-invasive C3 patient monitor offers flexible and convenient monitoring in a wide variety of care settings Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) today announced the introduction of its new C3 patient monitor - an easy to use, portable bedside monitor with optimal viewing features ideal for use in a wide range of clinical settings, both in and out of the hospital. Philips, the world wide leader in patient monitoring and the recipient of Frost & Sullivan’s Market Engineering Technology Leadership Award and IMV’s top rankings in 2002 for “overall service performance” in patient monitoring, developed the C3 with a complete set of essential non-invasive parameters and a 10.4” color display. The C3 is also available with Microstream® CO2 technology, which enables conscious sedation monitoring of adults and children. The C3 monitor allows continuous monitoring of essential non-invasive parameters, including three-lead ECG with pacemaker detection, SpO2 with motion-tolerant Fourier Artifact Suppression Technology (FAST), non-invasive blood pressure with STAT mode, respiration and temperature. OVERVIEW Philips introduced the C3 patient monitor in September 2003, and is marketing it as an “easy-to-use, portable bedside monitor” – a viable solution for a wide range of clinical settings. The C3 has the basic non-invasive parameters: 3 lead ECG with pacemaker detection, motion-tolerant SpO2, non-invasive blood pressure with STAT mode, respiration and one channel of temperature. Philips highlights the fact that the C3 has an easy-to-view 10.4-inch color display, large numerics and an intuitive menu structure. The C3 is able to store 12-hour trend data and has a flashing screen background for alarm notification. Optional add-ons include an integrated strip chart recorder, Microstream CO2, and an RS232 serial port for connection to a Nurse Call system. The C3 is a configured, stand-alone monitor with no networking capabilities that is separate from the IntelliVue family of modular monitors. It is clearly a direct competitor to the Propaq Encore 202 and CS 242 within in-hospital transport and low-acuity bedside applications. TARGET MARKETS Philips is targeting many different environments with the C3. Inside the hospital, its basic set of parameters and large screen position it well for bedside applications in the ED, pre-and post-op care, ambulatory surgery, step-down units, labor & delivery and special procedures. Pending FDA clearance, the MP20 and MP30 are not yet available for sale in the U.S. As the newest members of the Philips IntelliVue patient monitoring family, the MP20 and MP30 monitors include powerful and flexible IntelliVue features such as a common intuitive user interface, outstanding industrial design, and the Multi-Measurement Server and Extensions that enable patient data continuity among monitors and data storage throughout a patient’s stay. The MP20 and MP30 are the low-end, less expensive members of the IntelliVue family: they are designed to be rugged and lightweight, with a functional handle for easy portability, but without portal technology or specialty modules. The guts of the monitors are comprised of the Multi-Measurement Server and Extensions also used in the higher-acuity IntelliVue monitors. The MMS allows measurement of the base vitals: ECG, Arrhythmia, FAST-SpO2, NIBP and Temp or IBP. The MMS Extension allows the addition of Microstream CO2 or Mainstream CO2 or Cardiac Output, IBP and Temp. There are a maximum of 3 total slots for Temp and IBP.

The MP30 monitor has a touch-screen option and standard networking capability, while the MP20 uses the ‘Navigation Point’ trim knob and has hardwired connectivity as an option. TARGET MARKETS / STRATEGIC APPROACH Philips is using the MP20 and MP30 to target in-hospital transport, lower-acuity care settings, intermediate care, ambulatory surgery, special procedures, ED and PACU. The IntelliVue Clinical Network and IntelliVue monitors have previously targeted intermediate and critical care areas. The idea behind the MP20 and MP30 is to bring the IntelliVue monitoring capabilities and brand into lower acuity areas. The MMS and MMS Extensions can be moved from monitor to monitor while storing patient data, thus extending the continuity of patient data throughout the patient’s stay. CONFIGURATION / PRICES Intellivue MP20 and MP30 are not yet being sold in the US, so pricing information is not yet available. However, rumors indicate that the average selling price may be targeted at around the mid $5000 range. STRENGTHS
• The main strength of the MP20 / MP30 is that they are modular monitors at configured monitor prices. • Multi-Measurement Server can be detached and connected to other Philips monitors throughout the hospital,
allowing patient data continuity • Flexible screen configuration and large numerics • Hospital standardization on Philips
WEAKNESSES
• The longer published battery life (4-5 hours) requires use of 2 batteries, which increases weight of unit. With 1 battery, the battery life is only 1 – 2 hours.
• As a navigation tool, many clinicians find the trim knob awkward to use and find it difficult to return to the main menu once they are within the menu structure.
• There are several features that decrease the ruggedness of the monitor and make it less appropriate for transport: o If dropped the modules that are inserted into the slots could potentially dislodge. o The trim knob sticks out from the monitor and can be easily bumped or sheared off. o Large displays are prone to breakage.
• No integral bedrail mounting • MMS Extensions can be added to measure either Mainstream or Sidestream CO2, not both. • No motion-tolerant NIBP algorithm. • As in all modular monitor solutions, the customer should look for hidden costs such as measurement modules,
extensions, etc. What is the total cost of the solution? • When a MMS is removed from an IntelliVue bedside monitor and placed into the MP20/30 for transport, the

November 10, 2003 Philips solidifies cardiology leadership, showcases new cardiovascular products and technologies at American Heart Association annual meeting Company also to host educational theater with presentations from industry experts Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced today at the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Scientific Sessions in Orlando, Fla. the introduction of several new products and technologies that enable advances in cardiovascular care. The introductions follow recent announcements of several new strategic alliances and are part of Philips goal to become the preferred provider in cardiovascular care solutions. Additionally, Philips will host an educational theater that will highlight its innovative and collaborative approach to the cardiovascular marketplace through customer presentations in areas including: computed tomography, healthcare IT, magnetic resonance, molecular imaging, nuclear medicine, and ultrasound. Earlier this year, Philips announced several key technology collaborations including an alliance with Epic Systems Corporation, a leader in enterprise-wide, integrated healthcare information systems, to provide enterprise software, medical imaging and monitoring IT solutions that will integrate patient information enterprise-wide. This cooperative agreement combines Epic’s strengths in patient-centric, enterprise-wide healthcare information systems with Philips strengths in medical imaging, PACS and patient monitoring technology. In addition, Philips and Stereotaxis, Inc. are collaborating to develop new technologies focusing on the Philips Integris Allura Flat Detector catheterization (cath) lab system -- Philips most technologically advanced cath lab ever specially designed to meet the market’s demanding clinical requirements -- and Stereotaxis NIOBE magnetic navigational system for use in advanced interventional cardiology procedures. The alliance meets interventional cath lab users needs by further expanding the Philips cardiovascular X-ray portfolio. As also announced earlier this year, Philips, has signed a letter of intent with MediGuide Ltd. (Haifa, Israel), to equip its Integris Allura Flat Detector with sensor tracking technology. Comparable to global positioning systems (GPS), this technology will provide clinicians with 3-D information on the vascular structure of the heart and expand Philips innovative approach to 3-D imaging. Philips also formed a research collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, a leader in the field of electrophysiology (EP), to co-develop cutting-edge EP cath labs.

Philips has signed agreements with Wisconsin Heart, in Milwaukee, Wis. and Edward Heart, in Naperville, Ill. Many of these partnerships include research elements to develop state-of-the-art imaging and diagnostic technologies to identify heart conditions earlier and faster, as well as preventative models in cardiology. Specifically, Edward Heart Hospital and Philips conducted a telemetry study to determine the benefits and applications of Philips Emergin technology. The study evaluated the use of Philips wireless technology versus a paging system to transmit messages regarding cardiac dysrhythmia alarms to nurses and practitioners. HeartStart Disposable Internal Defibrillation Paddles are a unique addition to the market, offering real advantages over conventional reusable internal defibrillation paddles. system, TraceMasterVue. This leading-edge product leverages an open system platform and standard software technology to deliver superior connectivity and provide best-in-class support for any hospital’s overall IT strategy. The system utilizes SQL Server 2000, a fully relational, open and standard software database, and runs on Windows Server 2003 for greater power and flexibility. Leveraging the Microsoft.NET framework, TraceMasterVue delivers new levels of manageability and scalability for the export of XML ECGs, as well as seamless integration with other systems across the hospital enterprise, including the Philips IntelliVue patient monitoring system.
Cardiology IT – Expanded at this year’s AHA, Xcelera Cardiology Information Solutions, Philips image and information management portfolio for cardiology, provides customizable solutions for the entire cardiology continuum of care, including the catheterization (cath) lab, echocardiography (echo) lab, nuclear lab, and cardiac MR services. At the touch of a button clinicians can select pre-programmed procedures, scanning protocols, reconstruction perimeters, archiving destination and image processing functions, automatically. Additionally, review tools make "one-click" coronary CT angiography, automated ventricular function assessment, and peripheral CT angiography possible. Nuclear Medicine - ENsphere, Philips workflow management solution designed specifically for
nuclear medicine imaging departments, is dedicated to improving productivity, managing critical patient data and integrating that data within the hospital enterprise. ENsphere increases efficiency helping nuclear medicine departments experience significantly quicker diagnosis and ultimately improve department profitability. 4DM SPECT software, which runs on the Pegasys workstation, is an automated, comprehensive cardiac review and quantification suite of applications that allows instant access to many data files in one application. A fully automated system, 4DM SPECT performs various cardiac perfusion image calculations, such as lung-heart ratio and transient ischemic dilation, which enable clinicians to quickly and easily download images for future review.

OVERVIEW The MP40 and MP50 monitors were introduced into the IntelliVue suite of monitors last year as a lower-acuity version of the MP60/MP70 and as a replacement for the V24/V26. The guts of the MP40 and MP50 monitors are comprised of the Multi-Measurement Server and Extensions also used in all other IntelliVue monitors. The MMS allows measurement of the base vitals: ECG, Arrhythmia, FAST-SpO2, NIBP and Temp or IBP. The MMS Extension allows the addition of Microstream CO2 or Mainstream CO2 or Cardiac Output, IBP and Temp. There are a maximum of 3 total slots for Temp and IBP. The MP40 and MP50 also have built-in slots for up to four other measurement modules (for higher-acuity monitoring parameters) or two measurement modules and a printer. The MP50 monitor has a touch-screen option and standard networking capability, while the MP40 uses the ‘Navigation Point’ trim knob and has hardwired connectivity as an option.

TARGET MARKETS / STRATEGIC APPROACH The MP40 and MP50 were designed as entry model IntelliVue monitors suitable for OR/PACU, surgical centers, step-down units, emergency departments, and intermediate care environments. The IntelliVue MP40 and MP50 monitors are meant to be used in intermediate care environments within an IntelliVue clinical network. WEAKNESSES
• Although the portal technology is an interesting technology, it can make for a complex user interface. Also, being able to access other patients’ data from a bedside monitor could present a safety issue should the clinician mistake ‘remote’ patient data for the data of the currently-attached patient.
• When a MMS is removed from an MP40/50 monitor for transport, it is without its key modules. A supply of MMS must be kept on hand.
• As a navigation tool, many clinicians find the trim knob awkward to use and find it difficult to return to the main menu once they are within the menu structure.
• There are several features that decrease the ruggedness of the monitor and make it less appropriate for the Emergency Department, which is one of the key target markets: o If dropped the modules that are inserted into the slots could potentially dislodge. o The trim knob sticks out from the monitor and can be easily bumped or sheared off. o Large displays are prone to breakage.
• The base unit is 14.8 lbs… Philips does not specify the weight with the Multi-Measurement Server, Printer and additional measurement modules. This monitor may be ‘luggable’, but its portability could certainly be called into question. Also, its footprint is significantly larger than that of the CS.

PROPAQ WINS UMDNJ placed an order in April for 19 Propaq CS 242 monitors with Printer and HP side panels, for a total of $154K. Warren Jaffe had a steep hill to climb with this account because the customer had agreed to use Philips house-wide. However, they chose to honor their Philips agreement for bedside monitors, but purchase more Encore monitors for their transport needs. They made this decision primarily due to the Propaq’s long battery life, reliability and low cost of repairs.
