THE INTERVIEW:

DB: Tell us about what is your background in dance? For example have you trained in various schools or under instructors?

ST: My background in dance comes mostly from my professional training in Rhythmic Gymnastics. I would like to say a few words about Rhythmic gymnastics, for the ones who don’t know anything or very little about it. It’s a female only Olympic sport with very elegant, gracious, and absolutely beautiful movements. It’s a sport that combines elements of classical ballet, gymnastics, different styles of dance, and apparatuses’ technique and manipulation. Here is how I developed my well controlled physical culture of my body, the variety types of dance styles and their precise movements. I started doing Rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 4. By the age of 12 I was already part of the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team representing my country internationally. With consistence, patience and extremely hard work I have become a five time Champion of Bulgaria, a bronze medalist in the European Championships, a Team Champion at the World Cup, and a multiple medalist from many national and international tournaments around the world. Later on I continued developing my dance skills in best dance companies in Bulgaria as; “Diva”, “Asia Ballet” and “Magadance” where I managed to polish my movements in lyrical jazz, hip-hop, street jazz, contemporary, and more. I was invited to perform and to be part of many national tours and music videos with one of the most famous artist in Bulgaria in the music industry, as well as in many TV shows and dance commercials, photo shoots for the national media, yearly calendars, print ads and others. After moving to the NYC I started taking classes at the “Broadway Dance Center”, “Peridance Center” and others, working on my dance technique. Then, I was invited to train and be part of the Aerial Artistry Company where I was taught skills on aerial apparatuses as silk, hammock and lira. Later on I was professionally taught in fire skills by Phoenix Entertainment.

DB: What type of dance styles do you perform and which is your favorite?

ST: As I mentioned earlier my dance style comes from a sport where the classical ballet style is dominant. However, with the time, building more experience and developing my skills I felt very confident, comfortable and absolutely being myself while performing lyrical jazz. The style is so close to my elegant sport that I just felt like I’m doing Rhythmic all over again. Eventually I started to add props while performing this style. And this way I kind of created a new, unique style for myself to the audience out there, something that people don’t see often and get absolutely amazed every time they see my performances.

DB: Tell us about your props that you use during a performance. What do they add to your performances and how effective have you found it on the audiences?

ST: The props in my performance are the “power” of my appearance on stage. And here, once again, I’m going to mention my sport, the Rhythmic gymnastics, which besides my dance skills, I have developed the unique technique with the different props as well. For the ones who are not familiar with them, the RG props or the way we call them, apparatuses, are: ribbon, ball, rope, hoop and clubs. They all require intensive and precise work, technique, preparation and manipulation. With building more experience and confidence through the years I started adding more and unusual props to my performances by using the same technique or modifying it. Some of the additional props in my performances are the fire torches, poi, fans and staff as well as pieces of specially sawn fabrics, called flags, which I manipulate in a very interesting and unique way, performing with hat piece in a form of a huge chandelier, being inside a big eight foot bubble and many more. My imagination never stops adding and creating more and interesting ideas that people haven’t seen before. Photography by Henry Pocius

The fusion of contemporary-funk, acting, ballet, and modern allows the company to explore distortion of the body, natural patterns, chemical reactions between humans, and emotional conflicts. The Companies honest movement compiles stories of real life through these creative processes. Believing that there are many ways to inspire an audience, dance movement can be one of the most powerful ways to reach out and change someone.

Chandler and Gonzalez’s Goal is to allow their audience of all background and ages to walk away with something they did not walk in with. Weather it is to gain a spiritual connection or diminish another change; they believe each movement can help us understand human conditions.

Carrera y Carrera surprises with new pieces that extend the Bambú Collection; Bamboo is considered a symbol of good luck in the Far East. Following the collection’s prior success, the pieces have been reinvented, maintaining their style and creativity.

The graceful and refined new designs feature a new concept of lines fused with vibrant precious stones that seem to melt into the carefully carved yellow gold of the bamboo stalks and the white gold paved with diamonds that create the delicate leaves. The pieces maintain their inspiration drawn from Eastern philosophy that focuses on harmony, tranquility, and balance.

Carrera y Carrera has introduced five new models: Two dynamic rings with colorful precious stones - amethyst and rose quartz, where generous volumes contrast with the delicacy and rich detail of the bamboo. A new set comprised of a ring, pendant, and earrings crafted in yellow gold and white gold with diamonds is ideal for daily wear by a woman as delicate as these designs.
