Artist’s statement

Photo portfolios always include a statement from the artist about their work.

In your statement, please discuss 4 points.

1) BEST PHOTOGRAPH (1 paragraph)

After reviewing all of the photographs in the portfolio, which is your best photograph? Explain what makes it your best. You may discuss any of these areas that are relevant, be sure to support statements with details:

Technique – Were you working with a fast shutter? Macro? Shallow depth? Showing motion? Etc.

Creativity – how did you go about showing your theme? How did you try to get the viewer to understand what your photo was about?

Elements of Composition – Which compositional strategies did you use? Why did you choose to use them? How did the compositional strategies help tell your story?

Growth – How does this piece show progress, improvement, greater understanding of technique?

2) Greatest success in this class? (1 paragraph)

Secondly, discuss what you think your greatest success has been in this. This could be in terms of style, growth, work ethic, motivation, participation or anything else that relates to our class.

3) What would you have done differently? (1 paragraph)

If you were taking this class over again, how would you do things differently? Why?

4) How can you take what you have learned in this class and apply it to your everyday life? (1 paragraph)

Discuss how you can take your knowledge and skills and apply them in your everyday life. You don’t have to talk about photography specifically you can talk about skills that apply to all facets of life (not giving up until you get something right, divergent thinking, trying to do something different than others, etc.)
