Project Two:

Design & Technology Centre

The 19th century villa at Number 8 Commercial Road presents an opportunity for Walford to create a new dedicated Design and Technology Centre for the students. The original features of the villa, such as the timber floors and high pressed metal ceilings, will be retained in the renovation plans to create two separate teaching areas. The house will also accommodate a demonstration kitchen for lessons in nutrition and food safety and a shared space for displaying student work and exhibits. The main entry will be at the rear of the villa with a large glass sliding door providing an entrance from the garden.

A further stage of the masterplan will link the centre to a new multi-purpose theatre with a shared workshop.

The students and staff are excited about this innovative space for creative learning. The rapid progress of technology makes it even more vital for our students to have the skills of understanding and employing technology for their future careers.

Walford has found the perfect balance of creating a learning environment of innovative design, within an historic home that has an aura of beauty from the past.
