Carmanah was chosen by Pathcom to design and supply the solar systems to power this communications network at all the remote base stations and mountain top sites. The solar systems that were designed and manufactured by Carmanah provided a complete and ready- to-install power solution. The remote sites will run a number of loads including satellite transmitter/receivers, radios, and other equipment to coordinate ground and air fire-fighting resources. FireNet will provide coverage to most of the Alberta forest. The power system’s solar arrays consists of Shell Solar 110 watt solar modules and Carmanah-manufactured aluminum mounting structures. The structures were designed to be incorporated onto Pathcom’s building structure and inverters, batteries, custom PV controllers and connection wiring provide the balance of the system. The components were pre- assembled and crated to increase the speed of installation. Wild fires destroyed 153,478 hectares of Alberta forest in 2001. The systems were manufactured in the fall and winter of 2002 so that Pathcom could install the systems and prepare for the 2003 fire season. toll free: 1.877.722.8877 worldwide: 1.250.380.0052 carmanah.com Mountain top installation at one of 91 Firenet sites.

Client: Pathcom Wireless Inc. for the Alberta Government

Location:91 sites throughout AlbertaCanada

Equipment:Solar Power systems forcommunications equipment

Pathcom Wireless Inc. was awarded the Alberta Government contract to develop and supply a communications network to provide satellite-based, wide area radio communications for the Forest Protection Division; this system is known as the “FireNet” System.

Carmanah was chosen by Pathcom to design and supply the solar systems to power this communications network at all the remote base stations and mountain top sites. The solar systems that were designed and manufactured by Carmanah provided a complete and ready-to-install power solution.

The remote sites will run a number of loadsincluding satellite transmitter/receivers, radios, and other equipment to coordinate ground and air fire-fighting resources. FireNet will provide coverage to most of the Alberta forest.

The power system’s solar arrays consists ofShell Solar 110 watt solar modules and Carmanah-manufactured aluminum mounting structures.

The structures were designed to be incorporated onto Pathcom’s building structure and inverters, batteries, custom PV controllers and connection wiring provide the balance of the system. The components were pre-assembled and crated to increase the speed of installation.

Wild fires destroyed 153,478 hectares of Alberta forest in 2001. The systems were manufactured in the fall and winter of 2002 so that Pathcomcould install the systems and prepare for the 2003 fire season.
