    SCOPE

This Project Standard and Specification covers requirements for machine andauxiliary system instrumentation and panels for compressors and drivers. It alsodelineates the responsibilities of the machinery vendor and the purchaser insupplying the instrumentation.

Starting group panels are not covered by this Project Standard and Specification. These are panels furnished on the machinery or base plate by machinery

vendors with steam and gas turbines and gas engines to permit starting ofauxiliaries and bringing the unit to minimum governor speed.

    DEFINITIONS AND TERMINOLOGY

Control house panels - panels in the main control house which are used foroverall process operation.

Locally mounted instruments - those which are mounted on or near themachinery, primarily on piping, but not on panels, and include switches, thermocouples, and gages.

Local panels - those which provide mounting for all indicating instruments andcontrollers for process and auxiliary system variables which the operator requiresfor placing the machine in process service.

    DESIGN

    1. Tables 1 through 6 list the instrumentation to be supplied, the mountinglocation, and delineate the purchasers and vendors areas of responsibility.Table 7 identifies the abbreviations used herein.

    2. Panels. One panel section shall be provided by the contractor for each

compressor service. Space may be required for readout instrumentationsupplied by the machinery vendor.

    3. The purchaser shall specify the manufacturer and model for the standardinstruments to be supplied by machinery vendors. To the maximum extentpossible, they shall be the same as used in the rest of the plant.

    4. Upon instrument air or electrical power failure, regulating devices includinggovernors shall fail in a position which insures continued safe operation of thecompressor and driver. The design shall provide the operator with the optionof a manual shutdown.

    5. Speed governors for drivers shall be provided with a manual speedadjustment for use during startup or a utility interruption.

    6. Group alarms. The local panel alarms on each compressor service(compressor, gear, driver) shall actuate common alarms in the control houseto call the (Control House) operators attention to an alarm condition at themachine. One common annunciator shall be furnished for the protectivesystem. Another common annunciator shall be furnished for the remainingprealarms and alarm only conditions. The prealarm/alarm only annunciatorshall have a realarm feature that will permit any subsequent, but different, alarm to annunciate and be acknowledged as soon as the previous alarm hasbeen acknowledged. The local annunciator display must retain all alarmconditions until cleared, independent of common alarm status. A separateacknowledge and lamp test button shall be provided with the localannunciator.

    7. When specified instrumentation designated as located on the local panel mayselectively or totally be located or duplicated on the control house panel.
