PROJECT SEAHORSE envisions a world with healthy and well-managed marine ecosystems. Recognizedas the worlds preeminent authority on seahorses and their immediate relatives, Project Seahorse is an

interdisciplinary, international organization committed to conservation and the sustainable use of the worlds

    coastal marine ecosystems.

Since its founding in 1996, Project Seahorse has used the iconic seahorse to focus its efforts on collaborative

research and management, creating community-based initiatives and stimulating action on international

    policy development.

Examples of Project Seahorses work, innovation, and success include:

conducting field research on seahorses and their relatives in 12 countries across six continents

publishing the first seahorse identification guide and discovering nine new species

catalyzing the creation of 31 community-managed no-take marine protected areas (MPAs) in the

    Philippines and monitoring their effectiveness

establishing and mentoring a small-scale fishers alliance in the Philippines that now implements

    MPAs and encourages sustainable fishing

assisting Chinese medicine business groups in developing voluntary codes of conduct for seahorse

    imports to Hong Kong

Project Seahorse works in partnership with theZoological Society of London (ZSL), UK, and theJohn G. Shedd

Aquarium, USA; the Project Seahorse Foundation for Marine Conservation, Philippines, also plays an integral

role. Project Seahorse also recognizes a sustaining and collaborating donor, Guylian Chocolates, since 1999.
