CLUBS

Club, a club is present in every society, area or even colleges and universities. Clubs could be very

healthy for people of any age e.g. literally clubs, horse riding clubs, drama clubs etc. But, there are a

few clubs that could be a threat to the society. When you hear about the term “clubbing”, you generall

get an image about a very urban entertainment venue, generally featuring music, sometimes a dance

floor, and food and drink. Clubs eventually incorporated features of cafes, dance halls, cabarets, and bars.

Youngsters, mostly students got fascinated by the idea of a place where they could hang out togethe

and enjoy the distracters, which are a threat to the society if practiced regularly.

BACKGROUND

The earlier clubs established in 1920’s in America focused more on the promotion of music and a

place where people could sit down together and enjoy an indoor game like cards, chess etc. With thedevelopment of the so-called ‘private clubs’, the condition got worse. The urban societies go

fascinated by having a night life. Dance clubs became famous amongst the youth as a medium to

escape the study tensions. Clubbing kept influencing people, the blends of societies started spreading

as the richer kids took their friends to clubs with them. Movies like mad max and a nightclubs story

started dragging more people towards clubbing. Drinking, dancing, use of drugs and smuggling o

illegal drugs became popular activities in clubs. Due to excessive drinking, many indulge in fights to

the extent that they need to be controlled through ‘boxers’. Clubbing therefore became a threat to the

society by targeting and distracting the youth which is the pillar of the future.

With the emergence of media, and the popularity of Bollywood in the subcontinent, the Pakistanis

also took influence of the westerners. As shown in the newspapers and television, the big movie start

were shown visiting expensive clubs and bars which developed a trend amongst the richer cas

towards clubbing. The one’s who drink were labeled as ‘cool’. The other kids, trying to fit in started

visiting these clubs due to influence of their mates.

Unfortunately, these clubs have also developed in Pakistan. These are located mostly at underground

places and any announcements or parties involving drinking are spread through secret sms’s. Theseclubs are hard to locate. Pakistan is officially dry but still few clubs are there, most of them private bu

few operated by leading hotels. Most of their clients are foreigners and elite class. In big cities like

Karachi and Lahore there are many clubs. But few also exist in Islamabad.

NIGHTCLUBS

A nightclub is a drinking, dancing and entertainment  venue which does its primary business after

dark. A nightclub is usually distinguished from bars, pubs or taverns by the inclusion of a dance floor

and a DJ booth, where a DJ plays recorded dance and pop music. In the nineteenth century, however

a 'night club' referred to a club whose members met only at night, often at a range of locations, usuall

for the purpose of drinking, dinner and good conversation.

The music in nightclubs is either live bands or, more commonly, a mix of songs played by a DJ.

Most clubs or club nights cater to certain music genres, such as techno, house music, heavy metal

garage, hip hop, salsa, dancehall, or soca music. Many clubs also promote playing the Top 40 which

has most of the night playing the most broadcast songs of the previous week.

GENERAL TYPES OF CLUBS

Here we take look at the most popular types of nightclubs you will find:

1. Social Clubs:

Teen agers are usually involved in these types of clubs; it has no particular standard or status

Middle class can also afford going and chilling there. This place is usually for social activities

e.g. meeting, dating etc.

2. Gay Nightclubs:

These generally fall into two categories; gay clubs and gay-friendly clubs. Gay clubs usually only

allows openly gay men and lesbians in, while gay-friendly clubs allows both gay and straight

people in.

3. R ‘n’ B Nightclubs:

Usually offering a more chilled out vibe than your hard house nightclubs, R ‘n’ B clubs are alabout great music, large dance floors and chill out rooms. As well as playing classic R ‘n’ B

expect to hear funk, soul and hip-hop belting out of the speakers in these clubs.

4. Dance Clubs:

This is the most popular style of nightclub: a place for men and women to get together, drink

and dance to a buffet of music including hip-hop, R&B, techno, and rock mash-ups. Dance

clubs can be expensive; often drinks cost more than they would at an ordinary tavern, and

depending on the club's popularity and the night of the week, there may be a cover charge

Fancier clubs also have coat checks and restroom attendants who work for tips.

5. Adult Clubs:

Adult or strip clubs can be very lucrative; their stock in trade is the desire of men and women to

watch dancers perform in varying degrees of undress. These clubs typically charge cover (at

least to men) and drink prices tend to run high.

Now lets take a look at the various categories of clubs present in Islamabad, Pakistan.

EFFECTS ON YOUTH

• Clubs promote activities like drinking and smoking which is hazardous to health and

prohibited in Islam.

• Most of such clubs are pre dominantly ‘Sheesha Houses’. Young boys and girls have sheesha

which is not accepted in the Islamic society. Research proves that a puff of sheesha is 100 time

dangerous then a puff of cigarette smoke.

• Many clubs are spots for drug smuggling.

• Such clubs promote dancing. Boys and girls are found couple dancing in such places, manyclubs promote this un-ethical activity to the extent that there is a special discount on tickets fo

couple. And a few clubs are ‘couples only’.

• In a few such clubs/pubs, there are separate rooms for un-ethical activities. One such place wa

made illegally in a house in f-10 Islamabad which shamefully enough was a strip house.

• The youth is driven towards un-Islamic, un-ethical activities when they visit such places.

• Majority of our youth today is faced with depression, our research tells us that many youth

people were involved in an affair which broke-off and now they can’t come back to life.

• The worst that could happen to a society is when highly educated, rich and smart people even

after having a great degree forget their morals and are seeing wasting their money on sheesha

and drinks sitting beside a girl. Clubbing henceforth is the biggest plague of today and should

 be controlled.

STATUS OF NIGHT CLUBS IN OUR SOCIETY

Our society is an Islamic based society. Pakistan is an Islamic republic which was formed in the name

of Islam on the basic of the two nation theory. As explained through our research, nightclubbing is

very western activity that promotes the actions that are considered un-ethical in our religion.

Sadly, the status of clubbing is increasing in our society with the advancement of media and the

influence on kids of their rich peers. The youth is distracted and is getting involved in the partying

carefree, careless attitude. The menace should be controlled as it is not a part of who we are.

 ACCORDING TO ISLAM:

Allah says in Surat Luqmaan (interpretation of the meaning):

“And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, dancing) to mislead (men) from

the path of Allah…”

[Luqmaan 31:6]

Hence, it is clear that all the activities promoted in such clubs are non-islamic and hence these club

should not be present in an Islamic state like Pakistan.

HYPOTHESIS

• Hp#1: Youngsters are attracted towards Nightclubs due to peer pressure.

• Hp#2: Youngsters are attracted towards Nightclubs due to media.

Government (locate these places, ban such activities, close them down)

• Sociologists (culturally, bringing the youth close to their family, abridging the prevailing state

of doubt and mistrust).

RESEARCH LIMITATION

o Such clubs are at hidden locations so they were hard to find.

o Timings for opening vary.

o Security reasons

o Normally due to illegal activities, these clubs don’t have any name.

RECOMMENDATIONS

• Education: Like special education departments, seminars should be conducted in colleges and

universities to tell about the hazards of drinking.

• Parents should keep a check on what sorts of friends circle their children have.

• Government should locate such places and ban illegal activities.

• Social response need to be altered (films, media)

• Society should attempt to stop mixing with people who are into such activities.

• Parents should be very careful about the children showing deviant behavior. If a boy or a gir

stays out of the house at late hours, they should keep a check on them.

• Parents should have an active eye on the activities of their children reaching the age oadolescence. They should check the company their children keep.
