When Indiana-based design firm Interior Image Group (IIG) was chosen to revamp the tired and outdated Hilton Hotel in San Bernardino, CA, they looked no further than the landscape’s breathtaking mountain range and famous hot springs for color and texture inspiration.

Hotel management company DKN Hotels in Irvine, CA tasked IIG with creating a boutique hotel aesthetic while maintaining Hilton DoubleTree design standards. The end result: a property overhaul that blends indoors and outdoors, appealing to both business and leisure travelers.

Shaw Hospitality Group custom carpets from the Design Journey: Cloth & Stone collection are key underlying design components in the remodel, from the entry lounge and business center to the corridors and guest rooms.

“We had a specific design aesthetic we were trying to

achieve with this project, and Shaw Hospitality Group had the patterns to match it. We were striving for organic, contemporary patterns that would wear bright colors well and the Design Journey collection exemplified it perfectly,” said Patti Tritschler, IIG President. “The patterns provided a great design base, and we merely customized these to change the construction, width and scale. “

The hotel blurs the lines between work and pleasure, allowing guests to escape from their hectic lives and indulge in gourmet experiences, vibrant nightlife, relaxing pool outings and all that San Bernardino has to offer.

Since completion of the hotel design and official DoubleTree branded opening, the property has seen a 52 percent increase in room occupancy and an 18 percent increase in the average daily room rate, demonstrating how a successful hotel renovation benefits hotel ownership and the guest experience.
