Paralympic – international sporting competition for people with disabilities. It’s

traditionally organized after the main Olympic games.

Professor sir Ludwig Guttmann (3 July 1899- 18 March 1980)

He established the Paralympic games in England. He is considered to be one of the founding fathers

of organized physical activity for people with disabilities. In 1961, Guttmann founded the British

Sports Association for the Disabled which later became known as the English federation of disability sport. In he same year, he

became the inaugural President of the International Medical Society of Paraplegia.

The first game, which became the prototype of the Paralympic Games, was in Stoke-Mandevill.

It was a wheelchairs competition in 1948.

The First summer Paralympics were held in Rome in 1960,

The First Winter Paralympic Games - in 1976 in Sweden.

The symbol represents three hemispheres of different colors - blue,

green and red.

Paralympic flame is a fire that is ignited under the auspices of the IPC. The first Paralympic Torch Relay was held in 1988 in Seoul (South Korea).

Roman Petushkov - Russian sportsman, the only six-time Paralympic champion (under some games) in the history of the Paralympic Games (in

Games in Sochi in 2014), two-time medalist of the

Paralympic Games in 2010 in Vancouver. Honored Master

of Sports of Russia.
