FREE COOL SYSTEMEcosaire® Free-Cool is a glycol-cooled Ecosaire® system which provides cooling without the use of the refrigeration compressors during the cool weathers. It is capable of matching the cooling performance of the refrigeration system at outdoor temperatures of 42oF to 47oF (50oF to 55oF entering glycol temperature) depending on the unit selection and room heat load. As in all Ecosaire® systems, Free-Cool provides high sensible cooling capacity at rated room temperatures.

The Ecosaire® computer room air conditioning unit is a factory-assembled, self-contained system with or down flow air discharge and draw-through fans.

The system is specifically designed for computer/electronic room conditions and includes dual refrigeration circuits, reheat section, humidifier, direct-driven blowers with individual motors and all controls necessary for complete operation

The units are capable of controlling room conditions to within +2°F and +5 percent RH.

The glycol-cooled unit is also fitted with glycol Free-Cool economizer coil and all controls necessary to provide winter cooling without compressor operation. The coil is constructed of seemless copper tubing expanded into aluminum fins.

System allows for partial Free-Cool (Free Cool + DX) starting from fluid temperatures 1oF below set point.

The glycol flow to the free cool coil is controlled by two independent solenoid valves.

CabinetThe cabinet is designed for down flow air discharge. The cabinet and frame is constructed of heavy-gauge, bolted, cold-rolled steel. The complete unit is double wall constructed with no exposed insulation. All interior panel air surfaces are insulated with 1 inch, 1.5 pound density black-mat-coated fiberglass insulation. The access panels are lined with 1/2-inch coated fiberglass to provide double insulation for reduced noise level. The color is light grey with access panels of the same color. All access panels are hinged and removable. Access panels allow easy service entry from the front and left side. The electrical, compressor and humidifier compartments allow inspection without interrupting the air flow. Static regain plenums are provided internal to the unit to provide improved fan performance.

Supply Fan Assemblies There are multiple BIW (backwards inclined wheel), blowers located in the draw-through position to ensure even airflow distribution over the coil. They are constructed of heavy-gauge, corrosion-resistant aluminum and are statically and dynamically balanced before shipment. Each blower assembly is driven by an independent high efficiency motor with permanent lubricated ball bearings.

Blower assemblies include direct-driven motors and bearing assemblies. To reduce back pressure for maximum air flow they discharge into a air plenum running across the width of the unit. Blowers are easily removed from the front of the unit without disturbing the cooling circuit.

All blowers are independently driven with its own motor allowing service without shutting the unit down.

FiltersThe filter frames are removable and allow for easy replacement. The disposable filters are rated not less than 30 percent efficient by the ASHRAE 52-78 method. The filters are serviceable from either side of the unit.

Refrigeration System The refrigeration system is completely factory assembled with type-L copper tubing and consists of two independent circuits each with its own direct-expansion evaporator coil, filter/dryer, sight glass/moisture indicator, adjustable externally equalized TX valve, manual-reset high-pressure switch, low-pressure switch, refrigeration service valves, shell and tube condensers and a glycol regulating valve.

Evaporator Coil – Direct Expansion/Free-Cool The evaporator coils are two separate ‘A’ Coil design and is constructed of seamless copper tubing expanded into aluminum fins. The coils are pressure tested to 400 psig. They are intertwined with independent circuits for each compressor. Each coil is mounted in an independent stainless steel drain pan.

High-Efficiency Compressors There are two scroll compressors. Each compressor includes inherent motor protection, anti-slug protection, oil strainer, crankcase heating, internal pressure relief, resilient suspension and quick-connect refrigeration service valves with gauge ports on suction and discharge lines. Either compressor is serviceable with the unit in operation without disturbing the performance or air flow.

ElectricalThe electrical panel is located out of the air stream to allow service while the unit is in operation and is divided into high and low-voltage sections. The high-voltage section is protected by a safety screen which contains all fuses, contactors and transformers. Each high-voltage circuit is individually protected by high-interrupting-capacity fuses.

Disconnect Switch (Non-Locking Type) A factory-mounted non-locking disconnect switch is located in the high-voltage electrical section. It comes as a standard.

Supervisaire® Microprocessor All unit functions are controlled by the Supervisaire® microprocessor. The Supervisaire® are capable of controlling room conditions within the following parameters:

Temperature set point 40 to 85°F Temperature Sensitivity 1F (Min) Temperature control band 1 to 30°F Humidity set point 40 to 80 percent RH Humidity Sensitivity 1 RH (Min) Humidity control band 1 to 30 percent RH

The Supervisaire® control panel consists of six buttons for Program, Escape, Enter, Up and down Arrow and alarm access.

A four-line, 32-character, alphanumeric LCD displays all system-parameter setting screens, alarm-message screens, and system-status screens. The parameters shall be set with the Increase/Decrease Switches. Normal Operating Modes (Heating, Cooling, Humidification, De-Humidification & combinations) are displayed on LCD screen.

The alarm memory saves the data for all the alarms including the alarm message, time and date of occurrence, room temperature and humidity at occurrence. The battery backup protects and maintain the real-time clock. The batteries have an inactive life of eight to ten years and an active life of six to eight years.

Adjustable sequential load activation allows the time delay between stages to be set in seconds in order to reduce inrush current and/or vary the response time.

Adjustable sequential auto restart allows each unit on multi-unit installations to be sequenced on at different times to reduce inrush current.

Compressor lead/lag is provided and is controlled based on the actual run time of each compressor.

Glycol Cooled Condenser The glycol-cooled condenser is a heavy-duty, counterflow, brazed plate condenser. It is fitted with a pressure-relief valve and a refrigerant head pressure control.

Humitronic® Humidifier The unit is fitted with a lattice-electrode steam humidifier. It will provide particle-free steam to the air stream without moisture carryover and is designed to operate with cold, hard water. The electrodes are enclosed within a disposable plastic cylinder and do not require periodic cleaning. Output capacity is adjustable from four to seventeen lbs/hr and the efficiency of the unit remains constant throughout the life of the cylinder. Standard controls include an Auto/Off/Drain Switch and a High Water Level Alarm Light. A built-in strainer is provided as a standard. Supplied with fill and drain valve.

Electric Reheat The units are fitted with three-phase, low-watt-density electric heating elements located at the coil discharge. They are constructed of spiral aluminum-coated steel fins brazed to a copper-coated steel tube encasing the heating element, and are capable of withstanding moist conditions. The reheat section is capable of maintaining room dry-bulb temperature during dehumidification. U.L. approved high-limit safety switches are provided to prevent overheating.

Smoke & Fire Detector A factory mounted smoke detector and firestat combination is available to shut the system down when either a high return air temperature or smoke is present.

Adjustable Floor Stand An adjustable floor stand, available in heights from 8 to 26 ¼ inches, can be used to support the unit’s weight or to allow installation prior to the raised floor.
