Introduction:
Usage of plasters : related to our daily life.
allow the wound to breathe and help the natural healing process.
Factors to be considered when doing the experiments
Absorbency VentilationForce degreeWaterproofViscosity
~Waterproof Experiment~
Aim
test the cotton if it
could prevent the
incoming water.
1.Formed the two groups
1 Standard ﹕ (obtained the least water ) 4: Watsons
2 Adhesive Plasters 5 Handsaplast ﹕ ﹕3﹕Banitore 6 Band Plus ﹕ (obtain the most water )
~Waterproof Experiment~
Viscosity Experiment( failed )
First experiment:
our classroom
was so clean, we
couldn't found a
lot of dust
Second experiment:
there was too a
lot of dust, we
couldn't find
different between
the plasters
Absorbency Experiment
Aim: test the cotton’s
absorbency.
Why? one of the important
features Gentian violet
solution is easy to show the results clearly.
Steps: drop drib of gentian
violet solution to the each plasters’ absorbent cotton.
Wait for 2 minutes put one paper cover
the plasters and one paper at the bottom to absorb the extra solution.
Absorbency Experiment
cover paper (at the bottom)
Plaster
has solution
can absorb all of the solution but it overloads.
~Absorbency Experiment~
Results: 1: Adhesive Plasters. 2: Banitore
Protective Plaster 3: Hansaplast 4: Standard Bandage 5: Watsons Plasters 6: Band Plus
Pull Experiment
used spring scale instead of by hand
(more accurate and easier to measure.)
Affording weight higher
---tensility is better
put a clip at one side of each plaster
*=The easiest to pull.******=The stickiest.#= the worst (the most change in appearance.)######=The best.(Just small change in appearance)
Pull Experiment (Results)
~Pull Experiment2~results
Plasters
1.Standard ####
2.Watsons ##
3.Hansaplaste ######
4.Band Plus #
5.Adhesive ###
6.Banitore #####
#= the worst
(the most change in appearance.)
######= the best (just small change in appearance) Hansaplast maintains the first position in both experiments
Ventilation Experiment
Aim: test the plasters’
ventilation
Why? it will affect the
wound to breathe or the healing.
Ventilation Experiment
Steps: 1. drop 2ml alcohol
into each test tube 2. cover the test
tubes with the different plasters’ cotton.
3. put all the test tubes near window
*alcohol’s volatility is better than the others
Ventilation Experiment(failed)
not enough time dangerous (by
heating ) didn't have other
methods. *Failed the 2nd time--due to atypical
pneumonia (use water to do the
second experiment)
~Conclusion~
If the number is small, it has the best performance in this category.
--- failed two experiments (viscosity and ventilation).
Order:
Name

Band Plus 1 6 6 4.3… 4(WORST)
Handsaplast
2 3 1 2 1 (BEST)
Watsons 3 5 5 4.3 4(WORST)
Banitore 4 2 2 2.6… 2Adhesive Plasters
5 1 4 3.3… 3Standard 6 4 3 4.3… 4 (WORST)
~Conclusion~
Arrangement
1: Handsaplast
2: Banitore
3: Adhesive Plaster
4: Standard
: Watsons
: Band Plus
Mistakes:failed three experiments -no enough time --environmental errors ---our mistakes (couldn’t concentrate the problems to solve) We are so sorry that we
could
not give you the exact answers!!
~Conclusion~
Advice: Standard & Adhesive
Plasters for fingers(contacted with
water---good at waterproof )
Adhesive Plasters for wound is quite large and outpour blood
(absorb blood rapidly.) We hope these advise will be useful for you!!
