25 January 2011 Peak NDT, Derby Project Demonstration Day INSPECTION FOR POWER AND OIL & GAS INDUSTRIES: Ultrasonic Inspection of Austenitic Dissimilar Welds www.dissimilarweld.co.uk Overview This demonstration day is organised to frame the DISSIMILAR project. The project was funded by the Technology Strategy Board (UK) and work was carried out in collaboration with Shell UK, EDF Energy, HSE, Peak NDT, Applied Inspection, Alba Ultrasound, University of Birmingham and TWI. Objectives To present the latest developments from the DISSIMILAR project, including: evaluation of the phased array technique performance against current best practice methods specification and manufacture of phased array probes specification and capabilities of a modern array controller evaluation of a new approach using quantification of the weld microstructure to overcome the microstructural barriers Benefits of attending Understand the complexities and issues involved in the inspection of austenitic materials Introduction to design of ultrasonic techniques and probe specification through modelling Description of the transducer manufacturing technology Demonstrations of the probes, array controller and techniques on calibration blocks and a dissimilar welded specimen containing flaws Fee This event is free. Lunch will be provided but transport and accommodation are at the cost of the attendees.
