In 2001 Project Crayons was born out of a belief that every child and youth should live life with dignity. Project Crayons a non profit working to empower marginalized communities through HER- Health, Education and Rights. Education, though, is the fundamental right for each child in our country; numerous villages are still not well equipped with basic educational facilities. In 2000, Devika Kulavoor, an educationist, initiated Kaveri English Medium School in Kulavoor district that marked the beginning of Project Crayons. Thus, ‘Kaveri English High School’ was one of the first initiatives where children from different villages who had to walk initially long distances of over 5kms to attend basic education in Kannada. Presently the school provides free education for 200 children upto 10th standard.
