Professionally, Berlin has 3 volleyball teams, one basketball team, and one American football team, and 3 main football (soccer) teams.

In 2006, The World Cup finals were held in Berlin

In 2009 The World Athletics finals were held in Berlin.

Berlin is also home to the Olympiastadion, a world renown football stadium seating 74,200 people.

FestivalsKarneval der Kulturen

Berlin is home to the Karneval der Kulturen, a festival celebrating Berlin’s multicultural identity.

This city has the highest number of foreigners in Germany reaching 440,000.

The Karneval der Kulturen was founded in 1993.

The festival, with music, dance, and art spectacles, bring in about 1.5 visitors to Berlin each year.

When the Berlin Wall was built in 1961 the Soviet soldiers (which included German men who joined the Soviet Army) that built and manned the wall wore this uniform.

FoodBerliner Pafannkuchen

The Berliner Pafannkuchen originated in the 16th and 17th centuries in Berlin.

Berliners are fist sized, patries made from fried bread, filled with jelly or cream, and sprinkled with powdered sugar.

These donut-like confections are also known as Puffel, Krapfel, or Kreppel in different areas of Germany

History

One historical fact about Berlin is that towards the end of World War II, The Third Reich was making its last stand in Berlin. Due to the lack of troops, children and all able-bodied men were forced to fight.
