  • BrochureDescription: A two-sided folding brochure.Date: March 29, 2015Course/Instructor:Cory KerrVisual Media COMM 130Section 2Process: To start designing I looked at bro-chure examples to get ideas. After picking a brochure type I decided on what I wanted to advertise I began creating my logo in Illustra-tor. I then planned out my layout in InDesign. After I got all the measurements down I started designing. I chose my color scheme and placed my images where I thought they would be most effective. After I had the whole design done I took it to the UPS store because I didnt trust myself trimming and printing. I did however have to do the folding. Because it was printed on cardstock where I folded the color kind of started to flake off. Objectives: Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Create an original, new logo and use it in a brochure. Incorporate quality im-ages. Incorporate at least four quality images, not including the logo. One should be clipped in Photoshop and text-wrapped in InDesign so the text follows the cutout shape of the image.Programs/Tools: Illustrator, InDesign

  • Description: Create a business card and let-terhead creating new designs in Adobe In-Design.Date: March 1, 2015Course/Instructor:Cory KerrVisual Media COMM 130Section 2Process: For this project I used Adobe Inde-sign. I started off making my new logo, I just used the line tool to create the triangles and then copy and pasted to make new ones so that they were identical. Then I chose my colors and placed them on my business card. After making my logo I added the informa-tion I wanted on them and I was done. To create the letterhead I made my logo bigger and made that my watermark by changing the opacity. Then I added my logo to the top left corner and recreated the design I made on my business card and added it to the top of my letterhead. Objectives: Use the new logo to design consis-tent layouts for a business card and letter-head. Photos are okay on business card and letterhead as additional design elements. Letterhead should be 8.5 x 11, full-bleed op-tional, but trim only .125. Business card should be 3.5 x 2 and printed above center on a vertical page.Programs/Tools: InDesign

  • Description: Three variations of a logo for the same company.Date: February 21, 2015Course/Instructor:Cory KerrVisual Media COMM 130Section 2Process: First I came up with a company to make a logo for. Then I used Adobe Illustra-tor to create three different logos. The tool I used the most is the shape tool and the type tool. I wanted to keep my designs simple so that they could be recognized from a dis-tance. It took me a while to et used to the back and white arrow tools and what each controlled. I made sure each logo had a color scheme and contrasting fonts. Objectives: Create three completely different, original logos to fit a company or personal image that will appeal to the audience.Programs/Tools: Illustrator, InDesign

  • Description: Black and white flier to pro-mote opportunities for recent graduates to become stronger leaders.Date: January 22, 2015Course/Instructor:Cory KerrVisual Media COMM 130Section 2Process: I started my flier by sketching my ideas that included the audience and what kind of message I wanted that audience to receive. After sketching I started working in InDesign to create what I had come up with before. I tried to use contrast and size to create somewhat of a hierarchy to make sure that my flier was easy to read and had the important information read first. This created flow as well as white space. The in-formation and images/logo was given to me by my instructor. Objectives: Apply the design principles and use appropriate typography.Programs/Tools: InDesign

  • Description: This is an Event Ad that is full-bleed created on only Microsoft Word and images input by a scanner.Course/Instructor:Cory KerrVisual Media COMM 130Section 2Process : To begin making this Ad I used a scanner for the picture used. I had to scan it in save it, crop it and rotate it so that I could start working on the ad. Once I had the picture saved at 300 ppi and my siz-ing fixed I inserted this it into Word. I then placed it so that it would follow the rule of thirds. I tried to use the empty space to put my title and information so that the au-dience could see the bulk of the image. The shape that the gate makes is how I shaped my text, its subtle and may not be notice-able but I think it makes a difference. Once I had all my information down I started to choose a color scheme. I played around with this a lot. I matched most of my colors with the colors used in the image. Objectives: Create an Event Ad in WordPrograms/Tools: Word

  • Description: The goal was to make an inspi-rational montage by blending pictures to-gether in PhotoShop.Date: February 13, 2015Course/Instructor:Cory KerrVisual Media COMM 130Section 2: Process : After practicing on the Train ac-tivity we had I started to search for pictures. After finding one picture I really liked I re-alized what I wanted to do with my project I copied and pasted that picture into pho-toshop. After finding other pictures I put a mask on each new picture I had and did my best to blend them using solely the brush tool. I then chose a simple typeface and be-gan to type one word at a time so that I could move and rotate each word. Objectives: Learn to blend two or more imag-es together gradually, using masksDemonstrate more advanced Photoshop skills for layout with multiple elemen.tsPrograms/Tools: Illustrator, InDesign

  • Description: The purpose of this post was to demonstrate decent photography skills and being able to edit and enhance the picture in PhotoShop.Date: February 6, 2015Course/Instructor:Cory KerrVisual Media COMM 130Section 2Process: After learning some basic PhotoShop skills in class I went out to find inspiration for a photo. I had to remember to keep a color scheme in mind. Once I saw the red tractor I had an idea. After using the sim-ple camera on my phone I made sure I had good composition, lighting and a sharp fo-cus. After capturing the photo I uploaded it into PhotoShop and then watched basic tutorials on how to use this program. I then began to work with sharpness, saturation, color balance and levels. After coming up with a design I flattened the image and then proceeded to this post. Objectives: The purpose of this post was to demonstrate decent photography skills and being able to edit and enhance the picture in PhotoShop.Programs/Tools: PhotoShop
